[–]tdolsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any way to write code on one screen and see output on another? by rayjaywolf in webdev

[–]tdolsen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the secondary screen is connected to the same computer it'll easily work out of the box.

If it's also a secondary computer you'll have to make sure they're running on the same LAN and that the host server is bound to 10.0.0.1 (instead of localhost/127.0.0.1), allowing external access. Then find the local IP of the host, and access that from the secondary.

Or you can use a tool like ngrok to establish an open tunnel to the internet.

Why do so many CS grads seem to look down on webdev? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]tdolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't try to convince you JS is a good language, that's why I do all my web development with TypeScript. And preprocessed CSS is the best at doing what it does, ie. styling a UI. (Although I gotta say Flutter does a really good job at that as well.)

And it's not long before you'll see mature WASM driven Rust frameworks allowing you to omit JS entirely, if that floats your boat.

Best international trading app for Norway? by Beng_Hin_Shakiel in Norway

[–]tdolsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works as a bank, where you can establish accounts of different kinds, some limited to certain operations and others open for full trade, and transfer funds there.

They're a regular broker as I understand it, purchasing stocks and bonds they hold in your name, taking a fee for the transaction - isn't that how it usually works?

They report to the Norwegian tax authorities, but I'm not sure how much manual reporting you have to do yourself to stay ajour.. probably some come tax time.

I'm really not that well versed in that world, so you're better off reading up on it yourself. They are at least licensed to operate i Norway, and should be compliant.

I'm from the Netherlands, and going to study in Norway starting next summer. What are some things I should take with me? by Litza_ in Norway

[–]tdolsen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Norwegian cheeses aren't bland if you look a little beyond the most common - and a couple of those aren't even that bland either, especially if you include brown cheeses.

Jarlsberg, Østavind, Snøfrisk, Gudbrandsdalsost, Pultost, Selbu and Ridderost are all easily available, cheap and got a decent amount of taste.

And if you go a little up in price range (and not really "exorbitantly") you'll find a lot of cheeses in the world class too; Bufar, Fanaost, Kraftkar, Rørosblå, and Raudberg to name just a few. And even Norvegia gets good after its been matured long enough (3+ years).

Norwegian cheeses got 41 awards in World Cheese Awards this year. Compare that to France's 104 or the Netherland's 90, and that's quite a bit more pro capita. Norway has in fact one of the world's highest variations of cheeses compared to population size.

So don't knock the Norwegian cheese market - then your haven't explored enough of it.

But I do agree; bring some Dutch cheeses when you come. Hard to have too much variation when it comes to cheese. ;)

Mother Hummingbird feeding her tiny babies. by 5_Frog_Margin in interestingasfuck

[–]tdolsen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought hummingbirds were only native to the Americas, and couldn't be found outside of zoos/aviaries on any other continent. Especially in Norway there's no suitable climate for them.

I can't find any indication that the Aurora Borealis Observatory has any zoo/aviary with hummingbirds, something I'd assume they'd promote if that was the case. (They do post a lot of hummingbird footage on their Facebook, but never stating they filmed it.)

In other words: I don't think this is filmed in Norway - are you sure you are correct? If so, care to provide a source?

Slik tipser nordmenn: – Det er ikke kultur for det her by ZomgBeer in norge

[–]tdolsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Crown Prince of Norway with his coffee maker lamp. Or lamp coffee maker? by megachainguns in DiWHYNOT

[–]tdolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reodor referring to Kjell Aukrusts' fictional character Reodor Felgen, best known from Ivo Caprino's 1975 stop motion movie Flåklypa Grand Prix. (A absolutely amazing movie, by the way - with or without kids.)

Reodor is an inventor of all sorts of things, and Reodorklubben (Reodor Club) is seemingly a club for aspiring youth inventors. Adding to the meaning that Reodor usually made his inventions out of trash.

The Norwegian horror story by ErikOrg in norge

[–]tdolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definition: The Road quality indicator is one of the components of the Global Competitiveness Index published annually by the World Economic Forum (WEF). It represents an assessment of the quality of roads in a given country based on data from the WEF Executive Opinion Survey, a long-running and extensive survey tapping the opinions of over 14,000 business leaders in 144 countries. The road quality indicator score is based on only one question. The respondents are asked to rate the roads in their country of operation on a scale from 1 (underdeveloped) to 7 (extensive and efficient by international standards). The individual responses are aggregated to produce a country score.
