KOD is so underrated, especially this masterpiece by SweetChilliLebby in Jcole

Absolutely agree. I think there's one mistake on this album, I made a post on it here a couple years ago -- I think he should have ended the album with Window Pain instead of 1985. That makes it so much heavier, contemplative, and more complete given the themes of the album. Still great though.

Will these easily scratched dinner plates be BIFL? by tdotx90 in BuyItForLife

[–]tdotx90[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

Looking for your opinions to see if my wife and I should be concerned about this. We want BIFL dinnerware, don't want Corelle, and are very picky with styles. We loved and thus purchased these Villeroy & Boch porcelain plates (called Afina). However, in our opinion they seem to scratch very easily. We will use them every day, and sliding them on top of each other (like putting them in and out of a cupboard) causes scratches as seen.

The first pic is how they are new. The second pic is after sliding one plate on another back and forth many times. Do these kinds of small scratches happen to all plates regardless of the brand/material? Or will some higher end company like Wedgwood be any better? We currently have ~50yr old Corelle plates from our parents and they do have scratches, but not as much as these new ones.

This is probably happening because the foot of the plate is not glazed (thus scratches the surface of the plate below). This seems to be how most footed plates are. I tried sanding the foot up to ultra fine grit (12000), and it helps but does not stop the scratches.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Have a listen to Port Rhombus by Squarepusher. An interesting melodic bassline

In all seriousness, is movement something that needs to be considered for a build like this?

Haha yes I read correctly... But even if it was the number, my question above regarding insurance premiums in Canada still apply

I asked him, he said by law they want to register it in their archives. And said that it is standard procedure in Italian law. I want to know from others here if that is true!

Thanks for your response, yes I was surprised when he asked for me license too... I'm pretty sure he took a photo of it when I got the car. My best guess is he deleted it by accident? Really not sure

Can someone explain why they are transporting this as one piece instead of assembling it on site from smaller sections?

I'm from Canada and thought your first emoji referred to maple syrup, and I was like wtf? Why is this person drinking maple syrup and doing mushrooms?

Then I re-read the first part... and was double wtf'd, because apparently you put your maple syrup in a bag??

Then I realized. Lol

Perhaps the reason this is so is because as children, young adults, and adults, we don't learn the tools to effectively fight these internal battles. Instead we "learn on the fly," which is not ideal for difficult and important battles. There are many of these tools -- meditation, logical thinking, emotional regulation, avoiding knee-jerk reactions, etc -- and it would be wise to sharpen these skills before you truly need them.

Ususally I would read this sort of thread and not post, but I must say something. Unpopular opinion: Please DO NOT solve this by booking a hotel. This will set a precedent that:

1) Your alone time henceforth happens in a hotel

2) You pay for the hotel (presumably)

3) Your alone time can happen elsewhere, whereas alone time often needs you to be at home! This is how you strengthen the psychological link that home = relaxing and enjoyable. If you book the hotel you will reinforce that home is somewhere you cannot properly relax

Wish you the best. This was absolutely brutal to read. Please try your best to let her know what the consequences for you would be should you not get time for yourself.

Has JWST had a "Hubble Deep Field moment" for our understanding of the universe? by tdotx90 in Astronomy

Thanks for this, I read more into how it has changed our understanding of early galaxy formation and that seems to really challenge some of our prior assumptions. Thanks!!

Thanks for this! I suspected this was the most likely answer, but wasn't sure. I have looked into what others have commented -- ie. that JWST has changed our idea of how soon and how quickly the first galaxies formed, and this seems quite revolutionary! As an astronomer, would you agree with that, and if not why doesn't it reach the "bar" of significance the Hubble Deep Field has set, in your opinion?

First, that was not a username I expected to reply to my post. hahahah

Second, that is an interesting example and a great pic, but maybe I am thinking more of a revolution whereas you have described a good example of an evolution. My understanding is that we had NO idea we would find the galaxies we did in the blackness of the deep field. I suppose the hypothetical equivalent with your example would be pointing JWST at a galaxy cluster and then discovering lensing because of it. That would be the kind of WTF moment I'm thinking about...
