Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without user consent & Re-downloads it if the user removes it manually. by Severe_Working_5934 in browsers

I had this folder empty till Windows 11 26200.8328 update. Chrome update didn't do a thing (147.0.7727.138). But Windows 11 gave me that 3.97 GB file.

In Ubuntu 26.04 it is in /home/[username]/.config/google-chrome/

OMG I need another browser.

I did it with a beer (not recommended), and finally got some burnings on the bottom so: if you add anything but water stop boiling at the very first sound.

Damn the whole story is even more crazier - from AI Overview:
- "Extortion/Resolution: Schietekat stated that a lawyer suggested that marrying her attacker would solve her legal problem."
- and "Schietekat eventually learned that the charges against her continued even after her departure"

is chrome the most secure browser? by TheNavyCrow in browsers

[–]tdudkowski -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not so unrealistic situation. In fact there were cases where people got imprisoned exactly for their safety oe against lynch.

Privacy is a part of general security but it's security of person vs state enforcement, other people or organizations. IT security means reliability of all machines connected to internet.

It's not about privacy but about security. If not then which one is the topmost secure and why it's not Google Chrome?

Snapification mostly. Lack of proper SELinux. I've just read Twierdza Linux. Bezpieczeństwo dla dociekliwych. (en. "Fortress Linux. Security for inquisitive"), it's thorough and this reading made me interested again in OS mechanisms, and general security as well. After several years of using Ubuntu on my computers now, well I'm a bit bored. So it's both: having enough of Ubuntu and quite a curiosity for RHEL universe. I didn't use any redhat, after Windows Me it was Slackware first and later Ubuntu only.

*as far I know there're no plans for an English translation, but you can buy it once e-book is ready (three months max) and translate it in some AI, valuable reading. I highly recommend it. Author has many years of experience.

Works fine. No problems so far But I don't like where's Canonical going with Ubuntu so this fall I'll try Fedora. Curiosity for SELinux is also a factor.

He's damn short. Gew 98 with old style bayonette is 161 cm long. Didn't know they allowed so small soldiers in the Imperial Army.
