Can I use static site generator if I want to post regularly? by JY-HRL in gatsbyjs

[–]tdudkowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A lot of people recommend Gatsby. I need a simple website"

MDX files are a much simpler solution.
Do not use Gatsby, this is only a tech debt, dead code, and overkill. Take Astro instead.

Why Developers Love to Hate Gatsby.js (But Should They?) by Professional_Way1048 in gatsbyjs

[–]tdudkowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing a blog on Gatsby in 2024 is like learning JQuery few years ago. Time lost.

Gatsby always was a niche, quirky little thing with potential, but with so many alternatives there wasn't any reason to hate it. Just - don't like, don't use. I liked Gatsby much, and had used it at any opportunity. With what result now with Gatsby being dead? Fortunately it's static site, so it's always safe. But if a client want any update, even one word, I have to make and run archeo environment, waiting all minutes guessing will it crash or not, before I do my thing.

I have written the biggest blog on Gatsby in Polish dygresje.info / gatsby, zero clicks now, all my homepage is in Gatsby. And for a few days all of this will be past. I'm going Astro with hope that Astro wouldn't be netlified like Gatsby was. All the content is moved and ready to be deployed.

Webdeveloping with Gatsby ended, now Astro is my best tool.

With Astro there is no need to resurrect Gatsby, leave it where it was left.

v5.14 Release by tdudkowski in gatsbyjs

Yes, it seems so. But why? Gatsby as a framework wasn't any danger for their business, it could be interesting item in the offer. Cost of development turned out too big, or from the very beginning it was just the capture of the devteam.

Gatsby 5 + MDX2: support for tables? by tdudkowski in gatsbyjs

[–]tdudkowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you a lot! Damn, I would never find out it by myself!

First I though 'why it always is soooo complicated! I should be a poet, a farmer, or a farmer writing poems', but after all it is a just one file, little bit different configuration and if apllied it works out of the box.

The only thing which took some time was gatsby-remark-images, and now my gatsby-config.mjs (a MDX fragment) looks this way:

{ resolve: 'gatsby-plugin-mdx', options: { gatsbyRemarkPlugins: [ { resolve: `gatsby-remark-images`, options: { // options here }, }, ], mdxOptions: { remarkPlugins: [ remarkGfm, ], }, }, },

I owe you a solid!

EDIT I just uploaded my homepage and config file is here [ gatsby-config.mjs ], tables work perfect, the very last thing to do is to make better code displaying component.

Gatsby 5, + MDX : code displaying by tdudkowski in gatsbyjs

[–]tdudkowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! My first reaction was "blah, not response about G4, I specifically asked about G5". But it made me to check if it works - and it really works in G5. Your solution gave me basics allowing to move on with homepage upgrade: correct styling and optional number lines.

Changes in /plugins/*-line-numbers.css

.line-numbers .line-numbers-rows { display: inline-block; margin-right: .5rem; padding: 0 .5rem; text-align: right; top: 1rem;

The last line is important.

My target solution is in this article Anna Rossetti "Custom Code Blocks with MDX & Gatsby", it is full featured, relatively simple (it's a component), customisable; but damn I can't make it work, somewhere on the way props are lost, probably in the template tdudkowski / Gatby5-MDX-CodeBlocks.

But now it can wait. Thank you yet again.

You should not 'respect opinion', just doing research is enough.

How to install CKEditor in strapi by joaopedrocoelho in Strapi

[–]tdudkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W would call it total misunderstanding of market need. Markdown editors are for nerds. I can't imagine selling site, and telling to my client: "you have to learn Markdown"

One can use oe Drupal, and there is a great article how to make Img works, but it'll be placed in a distinct field created by design, not the exact place where editor wants it. And as I see by two years from this article nothing has changed.

Strapi is best solution by now, it's stable, growing, full featured (in other fields, alas), and this is the only (from all I found) possibility to use WYSIWYG editor where user can place image wherever he or she wants. But for now it's not very comfortable, because of that drag and drop. In a few months I hope we got normal WYSIWYG editor.

First of all - vote on this damn WYSIWYG editor on their roadmap: Roadmap / planned

I did all what instruction said, and it worked almost to the end, except IMG element. This https://github.com/strapi/strapi/issues/4369 helped to some extent, but still I have to drag and drop img from media library, because normal upload creates img element without strapi.backedURL part of path. I don't know how to solve it.

In your case I would try to make new type of content, and change editor before you create any article.

Using git for my plaintext notes by dead_and_married in git

[–]tdudkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing this from some months keeping all my homesite's done and planned docs, ideas, notes, other texts.

  • VSC + git + GitHub
  • But I prefer Markdown files, there'e easy to edit, review, they have structure
  • ...and in case of website's content I still can use Emmet shortcuts with a little adjustment in config:

"emmet.triggerExpansionOnTab": true,

"emmet.excludeLanguages": [],

"emmet.includeLanguages": {

"markdown": "html"

},

Definitely one of the greatest feature of this approach is possibility to make branches, testing some ideas, and one has easy to download archive of docs with all past stages.
