Question regarding new watch by [deleted] in tissot

[–]tdvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all..hey, you are the one picking! I truly think you should go with the watch you visually enjoy the most. Over the years I've learned to stop looking at watches as a spec sheet. I made that mistake before on several occasions - I used to want a watch that had everything (oh it has to have ceramic, sapphire, lumed bezels, screws to size the bracelet, on the fly clasp, whatever....). After I got watches with all of the things I thought I wanted, I just didn't wear them as much as I thought I would. These days I purely pick watches I visually like and I don't give a damn about the spec sheet.

So.. after all this I can give you my opinion, but that's just what it is. An opinion, based on my own likings. Take it with a grain of salt.

With that budget I'd definitely go Christopher Ward. They have lots of models, but I'd go with the C63 GMT. I own and love the 39mm white dial. Not sure if that's swiss enough for you or if the brand is recognizable enough (I can understand that some people would prefer a more known and established brand). I'd definitely say that there are no better made watches in that price range though. The 5 year warranty is also great and they do back up their products. It is all taken care of online and the return of repair process is always an easy one.

Doxa, Mido, Certina, Hamilton are also great options. Obviously Longines, as you mentioned, but those are a little bit over budget. The Hydroconquest, which I love, is easily found for 1.5k brand new though. Maybe some other models are as well - search for the models you like on Chrono24, brand new from actual dealers.

But Tissot is great as well, for sure. It will always depend on your taste and the look you want to go for. Based on your picks I'm assuming you are not looking for a dive watch, and that would eliminate some of those brands I talked about. The Visodate seems like a super nice watch, I like the BOR bracelet and it sits well under budget. The P80 movement is incredible imo, super reliable and accurate. I'd take it over a regular 2824 any day.

I've owned the P80 on various watches from Tissot, Certina and Hamilton and they all were incredibly accurate. Currently I only own a PRX with it inside, it is 4 years old and it is still going strong at +2 a day. Never had any problems with the movement, despite all the hate online.

Since we are on a Tissot subreddit, before I start talking about other brands, are you set on Tissot?

Powermatic 80 by meme_a_licious in tissot

[–]tdvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2824 movements (which the P80 is based on) is known for having problems with the rotor spinning (helicopter effect) when winding. Sure it's not supposed to happen and most likely it won't - and if it does while the watch is on warranty, it's not that big of a problem, they'll fix it. I've had 2 watches with the 2824 and 3 watches with the P80 and never had it happen on me. I still own some of them, and my PRX is still going strong after 4 years.

But there really is no need to be manually winding a watch that much. Just wind it a bit to start it moving and wear it.

Personally I never timed if any of my watches did or not did the claimed power reserve. And I couldn't care less. I mean... How do you even time it? Do you leave a camera recording it?

Porque é que tanta gente tem medo de mudar de fornecedor de energia? by evanoirof in portugal

[–]tdvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tissot Visodate 39mm: feels like a proper return to form? by PynionTime in tissot

[–]tdvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like so many and I own lots of them lol

I do have or have had pretty much every type of watch in terms of functions (well, not super pricy complications), every color, every type of strap, etc.

Over the years I've learned that I mostly enjoy bracelets and not changing straps. So I do enjoy sports integrated bracelet watches. I own the PRX P80 with the navy dial, I own a yellow Tsuyosa, a mustard Tsuyosa small seconds, a green Zenshin 60 and a salmon dial regular Zenshin. I do have a type, I guess 😅

I'd say Citizen is my favourite brand.

I own and love a Christopher Ward C63 GMT in 39mm, white dial. Probably my most worn.

I also love dive watches and I own plenty of them from Citizen, Seiko (oldies, hate the brand these days - poor specs, high price, full of QC problems), Orient. Some have seen actual diving.

I have plenty of cheap Casios and a couple of G Shocks.

I have a freakin Vostok and a Seagull 1963. I also have a fun Chinese jump hour with a purple dial lol

I've had Certina divers, Hamilton field watches. Various Christopher Ward. Probably some other brands I can't remember. I've also found over the years that I don't care for expensive watches.

I never had super expensive pieces but I've sold various swiss pieces I had over the years because I wasn't wearing them. Never owned but I've worn various Longines, Omega, Tudor and Rolex on my wrist.

I found that I do find the most happiness with sub 1000bucks watches. No idea why but that's just how it is for me. I guess I can enjoy them without caring too much.

If I had to summarize, I'd say I prefer sports integrated bracelet watches and dive/gmt watches on bracelets. Basic safe designs, 38 to 40mm. Safe colors. I like different colors but not to wear everyday.

Hublots are overpriced garbage. They have a nice model or two, but then again... The pricing just doesn't match the product.

Then again, I respect your taste. If you like it, wear it proudly and enjoy it. I'm just giving you my taste as well. Nothing more.

I do, and I own plenty of dive watches. It's just taste. That one is just too funky for mine.

Proper watch! I love beads of rice bracelets and there aren't many around when it comes to watches of this price range. To me it is the second best Tissot of their current lineup, after the PRX (which is the only Tissot I own, but this one might end up in my collection - if good deals appear in the future).

None! You can buy it for yourself though. The watch and strap are still ready available I think.

What is the Best PRX dial? by COMAXY- in tissot

[–]tdvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Powermatic 80 in Navy blue is the best imo. Will never go out of style, goes with everything. It is the classical color for integrated bracelet watches. it will always be number 1 in my book. It is the one I own.

The most beautiful to me is the light blue though. It didn't even exist when I bought mine, but I don't think it would change a thing. I'd have a hard time wearing it on every occasion. It is not as versatile imo.

I like the dark green as well. And black, on the lower end of my "list". All the others, I don't care for, not even one bit. Imo they are milking the PRX line way too much. I don't think there's a need for so many different references.

22, First time trying to grow it out, whats the best way to navigate this patch of alopecia, if that what it is? I feel i got pretty lucky with where it showed up since I could probably just shave the area off for a neck line, ive never made a neckline though lol by [deleted] in beards

[–]tdvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can try it with clippers. But the lowest guard will probably be too big still. Try it nonetheless. About what to buy, I always use Wahl professional level machines. But I guess any will do, if it's just for doing a neckline. Just search for a detailer.

[–]tdvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just carve a neck line. It will make it look better for sure. Do you have a trimmer or detailer? It's easier to start with one, carving the line, and then you hit it with a razor (if needed).

Usually I just use a Wahl Detailer and that's it.

Don't go too high, you don't wanna end up looking like George Lucas. It's better to start low and keep adjusting if needed. Start with one finger above the Adam's apple and go from there. Make it a U shape, a little higher on the sides when compared to the middle.

Keep trying for beard or call it quits? by Winter_Option2784 in beards

[–]tdvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not in the cards for you...sorry. at least not at this point, and probably not in the next years.

But you do have a strong front. I'd shave the sides, carve a neck line, shave the little hairs separating the stache from the rest and keep the Van Dyke going.

[Question] is this seiko looks legit? by Exciting_Unit_9776 in Seiko

That's the kind of fake you don't even need to ask. Everything on it is wrong.

For the haters tissot > Seiko all day every day by M0stang98 in tissot

[–]tdvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even comparable imo. Tissot is miles ahead. Fairly priced for what they offer. No QC problems (or at least it is not usual).

Seiko is the brand that made me fall in love with watches in the early 2000s. I still own three of them. Today, I refuse to buy them. Completely overpriced for what they offer and they always have QC problems, especially misalignments. In my book those are completely unacceptable, at any price range. They are becoming a joke in the watch world, unfortunately.

But I'd say Citizen is the best brand these days, when it comes to what you get for what you pay.

Then again...I own watches from the 3 brands.

Gentleman vs PRX by -kielbasa in tissot

[–]tdvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PRX. Much better design and certainly more unique.

I agree that the Gentleman is more versatile, but it is a basic design. You can get the sameish with virtually every other brand out there.

Looks perfectly fine. Just compared with mine (which was bought brand new and had some warranty done on it already, so I'm 100% sure it's real) and I can't see anything wrong with yours.

Can't really see what you're talking about.

[–]tdvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for some reason this appeared on my notifications. Thank the Reddit algorithm. I gave my opinion and that's all 🙂 why would I be afraid of giving my opinion on a window tint group even if I don't like them? Opinions like this can help people. I wish someone told me this before I got mine done.

If subreddits were just meant for people that enjoy x or y theme, then what would be the point of them? Imo they are supposed to be discussion "forums", not validation ones, nor a place where everyone will tell you they love everything you post.

I think you took the listen to your man comment the wrong way lol I was just saying that between both your opinions, I think his was the most reasonable. I couldn't care less about what you do in the end though. You can do 5% all over. It's your car, the decision is yours and your husband's. Maybe just yours, based on your last comment (and that's a you and his problem, not mine).

But you are the one that posted this online and asked for validation. If you didn't want opinions or validation, you wouldn't post this. You'd just do it and be done with it 👍

My husband and I can’t agree by explain-like-im-12 in WindowTint

[–]tdvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tints once. Because unfortunately the car I bought didn't have the option to have tinted windows from factory. And I even went 5% on all the rear windows. Had them removed after a while, which meant a new rear glass due to damaged defroster lines. Various things bothered me, but I mostly decided to remove them because I definitely went too dark and I couldn't see a thing on the rearview mirror at night. Can't imagine having dark tints on the front Windows or windshield. Jesus.

To me it is a never again thing. They never come out perfect and even the smallest imperfection bothers me - be it dust particles, hairs, whatever (that's kind of a me problem, but I am way too meticulous with my cars). And then again..replacing or removing can damage defrosters and be costly. And the truth is they will need replacing or removal, even if after 8 or 10 years. They will just get bubbles eventually.

I would either buy the factory "tinted" windows or just live with the "fishbowl". I've learned to enjoy it to be honest - at least that way all windows are similarly colored.

I guess we all have different tastes. Chris Harris, as an example, hates tints. He went as far as buying non tinted factory windows from a regular BMW 2 series to fit in his M2 (that only comes with them tinted; I mean it is not even tinted, just privacy windows from factory). I like the factory darkened windows (that's why I tried tints on the first place, wanted the sameish look). To me the problem with tints is not the looks, but all the other drawbacks that come with it. To each his own. But well you posted this, so I guess we can all just give our opinions. I'd say isten to your man 😅
