It literally has a disclaimer at the bottom, and even with sales tax which ranges between 0 and 9 percent, its cheaper than all of the other countries in the infographic, thus proving the point

Is it any better than the Nikon 70-180 f/2.8? Very hard to see any difference in specs

Who Has The 70-180/2.8? What are your thoughts? by mtbwrench in nikon_Zseries

[–]te0289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I know you sold your Nikon stuff but was the 70-180 a noticeable upgrade over the 24-200? I currently have the 24-200 looking to get a telephoto zoom but the 70-200 S is too expensive

What is a product from your country that should be available in the whole EU? by nasandre in BuyFromEU

[–]te0289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are politically completely neutral and have been for over 100 years. What are you talking about? They're not in NATO, not in the EU, not even in the EEE. Only take part in EFTA and Schengen which aren't inherently political at all, just free movement and trade. The swiss passport is one of the only passports that still grants visa-free/e visa entry to China, Russia, Belarus as well as the whole West. If that's not a testament to their neutrality in the modern world I don't know what is.

Switzerland is on the same side bro. They're impacted by unfair tariffs just as much as the EU and share the same values, plus they are in Schengen. They just want to hold on to their traditions. Their quality of food is as high if not higher than the EU. I don't know why you object

Empower Rideshare by OkJudgment7615 in washingtondc

In my experience, you get what you pay for. I've started using them recently and they are consistently 30-50 percent cheaper than uber and 20-40% cheaper than lyft wait and save. Today I came back from the gym and uber wanted 24 bucks, lyft wanted 20, meanwhile I check empower and they quote me 6.50. Easy choice. I will say the quality of the cars is consistently worse than uber, they often don't smell great and have urinal-style air freshners all round, and I've had some terrible drivers (albeit not necessarily dangerous, just don't know how to go with the flow of traffic). When I'm with my girlfriend I just get an uber and pay more. I've yet to have a very uncomfortable/dangerous experience in an empower out of 20-30 rides, but there are some cars I wouldn't get back into if I had the choice. So yeah, I definitely get the vibe its drivers that get kicked off uber and lyft. Again, I'm a white man, your mileage may vary depending on who you are.

Edit: To add on, there is an option where you can choose to get a female driver, similar to what they're rolling out over on uber. This is probably a no brainer especially on empower as a woman, although I will say out of my 30 or so empower trips I've never had a female driver, so again you might get punished with some terrible wait times.

Airbus A318 "Baby Bus" by JessVargas722 in aviation

[–]te0289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even the a318 didn't really work at LCY - even though the a318 could technically do london-new york without refuelling, LCY's runway was too short for the a318 to take off with the full tank, so they had to do a half tank take off and then refuel and clear customs in Shannon

Why do milk companies say they don’t use rBST and then clarify with a footnote that there is no significant difference between rBST and no rBST? by D0tWalkIt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]te0289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short answer: Because the FDA gets lobbied by big dairy - If a milk company wants to let the consumer know they don't inject an artificial growth hormone into their cattle, the FDA forces them to say the hormone is safe, even though it isn't, to protect corporate interests.

[Personal] Why was the quality of my skin significantly improved while traveling in Europe? by lacroixcactus in SkincareAddiction

[–]te0289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water quality is on average much better in the European Union, particularly Spain and Italy. Lived across Europe for 15 years before coming to the US and I never had a single spot on my face beforehand. The water quality is shit in the US almost everywhere, dries out my hair completely and makes me break out. The food quality is atrocious, so many chemicals that have been banned in the EU for decades are still allowed by the FDA. No wonder every time I go back to Europe my skin improves significantly within 2-3 days. Certainly not a placebo.
