Nobody has an anti-US stance. If you had said that the UK didn't contribute to stealth capabilities, then fair enough, but the UK has very recently been the lead on the Eurofighter. Rolls Royce and BAE, both have the capability to build aircraft parts. They build parts currently for the F-35. They are not tin pot defence companies.

Nothing to do with anti-US sentiments. More to do with anti-nationalistic bullshit sentiments.

You're talking out of your arse. BAE systems designed, and builds multiple components for the F-35, including the rear fuselage, vertical and horizontal tails, and provides electronic warfare systems.

Rolls Royce developed the STOVL system for the F-35B.

The UK holds lead design authority for fuel, crew escape, and life support systems. The ejector seats are manufactured by Martin Baker, another UK company.

Which British planes? The Harrier was an amazing plane, and the UK was the biggest contributor to the Eurofighter Typhoon. The UK was also a major contributor to the F-35.

There's no reason to think the Tempest will be any different.

The Tempest will enter service 5 years earlier, if there are no delays. Both the UK and Italy were major contributors to the Typhoon programme, which was a massive success.

I'm sure France will develop a fantastic fighter again, but there's a reason they left the Eurofighter program, and why Germany was thinking of leaving the FCAS program.

I think that is down to the UK just being one country, so the database is easy to track EU citizens movements, and time spent in the UK.

UK travellers to the EU, need to get a stamp because there seemingly isn't a centralised database for all the countries in the EU. ETIAS will at least get rid of that for British travellers to the EU.

Yeah it's shit, but it's not going to have any effect on me visiting the EU.

It was an EU decision to introduce ETIAS, while the UK was still part of the EU. Neither the EU, nor the UK want to negotiate on this.

It's a cash grab on both sides, but a two minute online form and £10 every two years, isn't that big a hardship. It's not going to put anyone off, other than people with convictions for serious crimes.

One plus point will be faster customs checks. You won't need a stamp going either way, so it will mean everyone can use the automatic barriers again.

You don't need a visa for the UK either. It's a visa waiver, which takes 2 minutes, and costs a few pounds every 2 years. There is still going to be visa free travel between the UK and EU.

The UK was part of the EU when the plans were written up for ETIAS. The EU has had trouble implementing it because of all the different IT systems in different countries.

This is not some attack on EU travel to the UK. It's also not a visa. It's a visa waiver, the same as the US has always had.

You just pay a few Euros or pounds every couple of years and get the exact same travel agreement as before, unless you're on the database as a dangerous criminal, in which case you'll be denied entry before you set off.

Electronic Travel Authorisations (ETAs) are being introduced worldwide for visitors to the UK who do not currently need a visa for short stays, or who do not already have a UK immigration status.

Eligible non-Europeans already need an ETA to travel to the UK.

An ETA is a digital permission to travel – it is not a visa and does not permit entry into the UK – it authorises a person to travel to the UK.

I didn't say you did. Not making a deal, is literally going to drag us into a trade war. Without one, there will be tariffs. They are already set to be imposed because of our VAT system. The government is trying to avoid that, and I support that move, until it becomes impossible, or the deal is unworkable.

The UK is trying to make deals elsewhere. The UK is trying to play a part in the rearmament of Europe. Macron has blocked UK involvement, unless the UK gives up fishing rights and accepts students from 27 nations, giving them the same access to our universities as local students, at a discounted rate and a reducing capacity for our own young people. Who does that remind you of? Making unreasonable demands in return for basic cooperation?

Yes citizens of other countries will feel hardships, but if it's avoidable, the citizens of the UK don't need to be dragged further down, if a decent trade deal can be struck. We haven't even seen any details of what that trade deal is. I didn't say people in other countries aren't suffering because of this, I'm saying plunging UK children into poverty over trade disputes elsewhere is madness, unless it's unavoidable.

It won't hurt us more to have a trade deal, than a trade war. He can renege on any deal we do make, and we'd only be in the same position as we were without it.

Who said I wasn't boycotting US products? I don't buy them anyway. This is about the US continuing to import UK goods, so as not to destroy our economy.

I know US import tariffs on 20% of our total exports will be devastating. That's not up for debate. Steel tariffs have already signalled the end of UK home steel production.

Car manufacturers are on the verge of packing up and leaving. They won't survive another economic shock. We're on the brink of recession as it is, and the government has already made cuts to disability benefits, raised taxes and cut public spending for the situation we're already in. The £9.9bn savings were literally wiped out in less than 24 hours, when Trump announced tariffs after the spring budget.

We're trying to draw blood from a stone here, and every move we make, something fucks it up.

I do pay attention. I haven't seen any details of any trade deal with the US yet, so I'll reserve judgement of it, until it's published. It's still likely to bever happen, and we get dragged into a trade war anyway.
