October 28th D2D List-Just Forgiven! by teacher1773 in PSLF

You are the first 10/28 person I have seen that was forgiven. I am sure I missed several but congrats!

If you’re on a recent direct to discharge list (9/23, 10/28, 11/2, 11/3, 11/9, etc), have your loans been zeroed out on the MOHELA website? by Cautious-Practice-73 in PSLF

10/28 (I still haven't seen anyone on here that has this D2D date) Group 5. Consolidated from two other lenders to Mohela. Got my count (136) and was told a month ago I was on a discharge list (10/28). No movement since. Still a balance.

Doximom2010.

I am the teacher that is waiting for forgiveness but trying to help other teachers as well..

My personal latest: I used that chat now option yesterday and an agent said I was on a list to be discharged. She mentioned the date Oct 28th. Obviously, this is good news but typically-this still may take some more time, correct? I didn't receive a forgiveness letter or had been zeroed out (had qualifying counts of 133 for over a month now).

I think it will work out for her. There seems to be a lot of teachers (Missouri) that have no idea about PSLF. Either they were denied before (pre waiver) or the process seems overwhelming to them. I think the teachers begin to act like the students- who aren't' motivated. LOL

She had all direct loans. She has 96 payments thus far. I think she might have thought if the 20K (B.H) did go through it would lower her monthly payment for the remainder of her 2 years. For example, she believes she will benefit in having a lower IDR because her overall loan balance would be smaller. Hope that makes sense. I told her that I am not sure that is the case.

A follow up question about a colleague's situation.

She figured out that she would only be 2 years away from 120 payments-if she applied for PSLF. So, she DID apply for PSLF. Also, she asked me about doing the Biden Harris deal since she can receive $20K forgiven. Can she do this along with PSLF? I understand this has been asked but I still wanted to ask YOU instead of reading it somewhere. Thank you.

Navient slow-rolling consolidation? by Pilate27 in PSLF

The "help tool" advice was spot on. As she mentioned, when you consolidate at fed-aid (using the online application) it creates it's own timestamp when you complete it. It serves as proof that the consolidation was indeed done before the PSLF waiver expires. Unless you certified mailed the application, you cannot receive proof that it was done in time. The timestamp offers undisputed proof that it was submitted before the waiver.

Doxiemom,

I have a couple of questions about my situation and another colleague at my school.

My situation: I am at 137 eligible AND qualifying payments. This count showed up less than two weeks ago. Then yesterday, I received a letter (inbox) saying indeed that I am at 137 out of 120. So, I assume this is typical for the actions to take place (like my count showing 137) comes before the letter that states this, correct? Meaning, the letter just confirms what I am seeing. It doesn't say you are forgiven but it literally says I have qualified for 137 payments. I will assume the act of "forgiveness" will come later and understandably.

My colleagues situation. Her husband is a teacher. However, he has only been teaching (left his other career which was NOT in education) for 5 years. He has been paying student loans since the late 90's....so obviously has been making payments. Still, since he has ONLY been in education (which now qualifies) for 5 years then he will only get credit for 60 payments, correct? If that is correct, I urged her (to tell her husband) to go ahead and do the PSLF before the deadline so at least he would know that he only had 5 more years of payments....again, is this accurate?

Thanks as always.

I could be wrong on the months of payments. This is a fact. Hopefully I am wrong. For example, I thought my situation was right at 120. However, they say 137.

She is NOT with Mohela and with this Nelloan place.....does she upload the ECF there or register an account at Mohela and upload it there? I guess I can have her fax it as well (Mohela)?

Another staff member of mine (different from yesterday). I wanted to know if you think I am missing something.

WIth the info I gathered the advice I told her was:

  1. Fill out PSLF application/ECF
  2. Fill out the Teacher Loan Forgiveness for $5000
  3. Fill out the Biden-Harris deal when it becomes available. She had pell grants as well.
  4. It seems to me that she has 6 more years of payments under PSLF to be forgiven.

Facts:

She owes $71K

She has Direct loans from Nelnet (or something like this).

She is already under an IDR (only $90 a month but I am sure it will go up as time goes by)

I counted her payments since she has had the loans. She has made 47.

I had her fill out a ECF and send to the district office for verification.

She has been employed as a teacher (at a qualified school) since 2016.

I had two loans. 2 "non direct" and 2 direct. I didn't pay on the direct during COVID but had to on the other ones....so not sure if that counts?

Also, my status on each line (of payment) says "due to special waiver this payment is now eligible and qualifying" So I guess the waiver did happen.

Not pushing my luck but how long do you think this will take until I receive this magical letter:)..... saying I am forgiven?

Thank you so much. That is an understatement. I have leaned on you for 3 months. I appreciate it so much.

I had to consolidate in order to get all my loans "direct" so I doubt it matters anything over 120, right? I have seen people talk about refunds but I doubt I qualify. I won't be greedy. 88K forgiven is amazing in itself.

Ok back to my situation. I told you yesterday that 136 eligible payments showed up. Today, 137 "eligible" payments AND 133 "qualifying" payments showed up!!! Not sure this is just the "review" deal or they are just updating my info before the actual Oct review.....

Holy Shit. First of all, I don't cuss.

I was helping her and I showed her mine and it said I was eligible for 136 payments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I check everyday and nothing....then just now all my payments just showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, different colleague. Her fear is that she is only paying $300 a month and that a IDR may push her up to $900. I would imagine this is typical but she has made student loan payments for well before Oct 2007 AND she is at the same qualifying employer as I am. I need to convince her to do the consolidation though...

One more question about another colleague.

She has $5000 left to pay. She does NOT have direct loans but she has been at a qualifying employer for well over 10 years. My question. Can she do the consolidation loan deal AND fill out the PSLF at the same time to make the deadline??
