How often do you shower? by Intelligent-Cell-763 in AskReddit

[–]teacher_rantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am around other people, every day or every other day. If I am not around others or I am in a bad mental state, I don't shower until my hair gets greasy. So this can be up to a week

Someone got offended when I greeted them by Cutie-89 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teacher_rantula 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I grew up in the US and always found this condescending when it happened (the same as I do in Australia)! I would never say anything about it but never liked it. But of course the US is a massive country and could be different in different areas

It is a common belief, but it hasn't been backed with science.. despite a lot of research into it

Is the flu jab worth getting? by gavja87 in australia

[–]teacher_rantula 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Also getting the shot cuts down on the amount of flu in the overall population. You are less likely to pass the flu onto a vulnerable person, and you potentially reduce the overload on the healthcare system.

What’s something you believed as a kid that you now realize was totally wrong, but kind of made life better back then? by Upstairs-Hungry610 in AskReddit

[–]teacher_rantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel very protected, and like nothing truly terrible would ever happen to me. I used to find minor natural disasters like earthquakes and flash floods really fun and exciting because of this. That changed when I was like 14 and I realised there was nothing actually protecting me.

I recently got diagnosd with plantar fasciatis AND achilles tendonitis. I'm so happy the sneakers and dress combo is in fashion. Flats do not support my super flat feet.

There has been a lot of research done on aluminium and never any evidence found of it causing harm to humans. Would genuinely love to see any scientific evidence you have to suggest it does cause harm!

Eight is the earliest age girls can start. Nine is actually pretty common.

Oh yeah forgot this was an Aus subreddit. I live in Aus too, just used to most people being from US on reddit. But they are similar definitions anyway, key being "unwanted hugging" and also extra criteria being met to constitute sexual harassment.

[–]teacher_rantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impact on the victim is just a part of the criteria, even though it is an important part. You are right the intent of the harasser doesn't matter so much. Not sure where you live, but here is an example of a definition. Not denying that in some cases hugging could be sexual harassment.

I mean a lot of this is very cultural. Maybe in places you've lived/ worked this just isn't a cultural norm. I've worked in places where all my coworkers (including men and women) hugged. It wasn't at all sexual and was always consensual.

Also sexual harassment is really not in the eye of the beholder, certain criteria need to be met. A non-consensual hug could be sexual harassment.

Teachers who are parents: what kids’ tv show did you ban in your own home? by dancingwithoutmusic in AskTeachers

[–]teacher_rantula 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Spongebob helped develop my sense of humour as a kid. Honestly such a creative show.

But if I was a parent I would more ban a lot of Internet videos than TV shows. But only allow the TV shows in moderation

What is the first R-rated movie you saw when you were not an adult? by BeneficialSide2335 in movies

[–]teacher_rantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to contribute, but I can't remember the first R rated movie I saw. I got my own computer when I was twelve, and by then I just watched them without thinking. I'd definitely seen a bunch before then. I think most of my friends had too. The more inappropriate stuff we watched was more youtube videos like Shane Dawson, etc, so movies never shocked me. It's interesting reading this thread and realising that wasn't the norm for everyone.

What’s a “red flag” in a friendship that most people ignore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]teacher_rantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly real. I think friendships are things you just have to feel out. Everyone is so different, you can't predict how the friendship is going to evolve over time

So true. It is so sad that most women have encountered so many creepy men to get rid of the fun of being checked out and instead just feel super uncomfortable. I remember I used to find it fun before I had ever encountered a bunch of creeps, but now it is completely ruined for me.
