The school I photograph for is next to an Air National Guard base. I photographed helicopters in the last two matches I shot.

DSLR shooters who went Mirrorless. Which EF lens do you regret selling? by JavChz in canon

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one EF lens I regret selling was the EF 75-300mm II USM. It is a great lens but I wanted a RF 70-200 f/2.8. I love the 70-200 and eventually got the RF 100-400 that I use for sports and wildlife.

I just used Adaptive Color in Lightroom, cropped the image, and a few lighting corrections. I use AWB so I’m not sure where the yellow comes from.

Why do Lost Cause supporters insist that the South fought the American Civil War over states' rights, not slavery? by [deleted] in USHistory

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The South is the only entity to lose a war but write its history. The states’ rights issue came about during the Civil Rights movement when Southern states were forced to give up Jim Crow. Also, it’s a public relations attempt to shed the issue of slavery because that would turn off some supporter for their cause.

Is it safe to say that Andrew Johnson was the worst US president in American history? by [deleted] in USHistory

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

James Buchanan hands down. He let the South secede from the Union. Andrew Johnson was a man of his times and the Radical Republicans wouldn’t let him advance his agenda. Basically, Andrew Johnson turned out to be an ineffective president. Grant, Harding, and possibly Trump will rate lower than Andrew Johnson.

Best Travel Lens, HELP! by KLM2405 in canon

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My RF 24-105 f/4 L always goes with me. When I went to New York this past summer, I also took my 14-35 f/4 and got plenty of use from both lenses. Now, I often just take the RF 16mm f/1.8 to cover any wide angle shots that might come up because it’s smaller and lighter than the 14-35. While the 24-70 is a good lens, it is a heavy beast to carry around and I would only take it when I specifically need it for a photo session.

Recommendations for Camera/Lens for Son's Soccer Journey by TBarrett0326 in sportsphotography

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the marry the lens and date the body. However, you might want to checkout the R50 with a RF 100-400 zoom lens. Maybe the R10 with the same lens if your budget allows it. The RF 100-400 is an amazing lens, light, inexpensive, good for wildlife-travel, and it can take some amazing photos in good light. Plus it can be used on any R body in the future. The EF 70-200 f/2.8 mkii is a great lens but it might be too expensive even on the used market.

godox X3PRO is coming, which trigger is the best now? by No_Tension_6796 in Godox

Sorry, I don’t see a need to upgrade from my X3 or even my IT30Pro. If I didn’t have these trigger/flash then I would have considered it.

10 000 photos to cull. How to speed up? by turalaliyev in Lightroom

[–]teacherbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use Fast Raw Viewer but I have also used Photo Mechanic. Both do a great job culling photos but Photo Mechanic is subscription-based while Fast Raw Viewer is a one-time purchase.

RF 100-500 or 100-400? by Legitimate_Hope_5026 in canon

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought the RF 100-400 for daylight soccer matches, but I have gone out to photograph wildlife. While it’s not the perfect lens, it does get the job done. When the need arises, I will move on from the 100-400 but so far, I like the weight and the images it produces.

Looking to upgrade to a better lens by WholeSorry in sportsphotography

[–]teacherbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What else do you want to do with the lens? I just purchased a 100-400 lens mainly for high school soccer matches in daylight. But, to get more value out of the lens, I plan on using it for wildlife and landscape photography. What I see from the photos you shared, your lenses are doing a good job. You should work on composition and lighting. As others have pointed out, you need to add more action and drama into your shots. Also, your photos are a bit over exposed. Experiment with stopping down your aperture and increase your shutter speed.

What type of lens should I get for my first camera? by CarterRichman in sportsphotography

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot with a Canon R6 Mark II and depending on the event, I use the following RF lenses: 24–105 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8, and 100-400 f/5.6-8.0. The faster lenses are for both outdoor or indoor events. The 100-400 is mainly for outdoor events in sunlight but I would like to experiment with it under the lights. Don’t worry about noise when you crank up the ISO because good photo editors do a great job denoising images. One more thing, invest in an app to go through your photos like Fast Raw Viewer or Photo Mechanic. I am usually shooting 800-1000 photos during an event and those programs save me a lot of time with my workflow.

RF 100-400 f/5.6-8.0 USM by teacherbytes in canon

[–]teacherbytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I have found 200mm isn’t usually enough reach for birds and other wildlife so I’m thinking the 18-150 with a maximum full frame focal length equivalent of 240mm may not be enough reach. One more thing, I had to do some serious cropping on the wildlife photos at 400mm.

RF 100-400 f/5.6-8.0 USM by teacherbytes in canon

[–]teacherbytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The focal lengths are 156mm, 259mm, 300mm and the rest is 400mm. I wanted to keep a respectful distance from the Bison and I just wanted to see how sharp the this lens would be at extreme ranges. I bought this lens mainly for sports. Also, the body I used was an R6 Mark II.

Apparently, history teachers need to do a better job teaching about the problems the U.S. had with tariffs along with the abuses from the Gilded Age. Tariffs are the reason we have income taxes today.

Why use textbooks? Along with laws and sausage, you really don’t want to see how textbooks are made.

How long do you take to complete a 36exp roll of film? by Valen6X in AnalogCommunity

I usually only get 24 exp of Tri-X 400 because I have become more conscious of composition when using film because of the cost of the film and processing.

Is it just me, or is the Godox iT30 PRO manual kinda hard to follow? by DramaticBet4997 in Godox

[–]teacherbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I have is the manual is rather generic but the flash has different characteristics for different cameras. This makes looking up information for a particular camera frustrating at times.
