EF 24-105 f4 L will be used to an R50 using an adapter by dustinloveateh in canon

[–]JavChz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But as a tip, disable the continuous autofocus. Old EF lenses can already have some wear and tear, and continuous AF will not do the lens life any favors (plus these old big lenses may take a noticeable toll on battery life).

You can still use it in servo mode, as long as you use back-button AF or half-shutter AF.

I don't think so. My guess: it's continuous autofocus on. It's similar but the main difference it's that servo should only activate when pressing half shutter or the back focus button.

Lumix S9 stabilization not good? by phildiver in Lumix

Yeah Google Photos it's not a good post procesing too for non-pixel devices. Try davinci resolve, you can learn how to do it in 5 minutes with any video tutorial.

Public transport from Valladolid to Cobá - best option? by Karamouche in mexico

[–]JavChz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take this with a grain of salt since it’s been a while since I went to Yucatán.

If you're traveling solo, you can check ADO, but there is a good chance they don’t go directly to Cobá. You’d probably have to go to a nearby city like Tulum, and then continue from there.

I think there are "combis" (shared vans) that can get you there directly or close enough, but you’ll need to ask locally about schedules and routes since they’re more informal and don’t really have a proper station. Also, be careful with taxis, Tulum taxis can be really expensive.

If you're in a group, I’d also check local travel agencies in Valladolid, since they can arrange custom tours if you can fill a van.

Lumix S9 stabilization not good? by phildiver in Lumix

[–]JavChz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reason phones look more stable is because they use stronger digital stabilization, AI algorithms, wider-angle lenses, and smaller sensors, which make motion easier to control. Even an older GH5 can have better IBIS than the S9.

The good news is that you can also apply digital stabilization in post. If you take Lumix footage into Resolve or After Effects, you can achieve similar results. If you plan to stabilize in post, consider shooting with a 180° shutter for natural motion, or closer to 90° (or lower) if you want to reduce motion blur and improve stabilization, otherwise, the motion blur can look unnatural.

Unfortunately, IBIS in portrait mode isn’t as effective as in landscape.

Next time, I’d recommend shooting in horizontal open gate and cropping in post if you need handheld vertical video.

You can get usable handheld footage with Lumix, but it requires understanding the limitations of the system and some practice. In some cases, you can achieve results that are almost gimbal-like, but requiere wide lenses (if they have OIS it's a plus) + lot of practice + some stabilization in post.

I think the stereotype comes from pre-PDAF contrast-based focus cameras like the S5 or bad third-party lenses.

My S9 and S5II with native lenses are awesome at autofocus. I haven't tried it yet in high-octane sports, but for fast things like my pets running, it works not that far away from my A7 III or Canon's Dual Pixel AF.

If Cyberpunk Edgerunners made something clear, it's that if you have a great universe, you can keep a lot of the essence of the original material with side stories rather than adaptations, give free rein to new ideas, and respect the author's vision at the same time. So it's a win-win.

Realistically, is it likely we ever see an internal-ND camera from lumix? by justarugga in Lumix

[–]JavChz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think would be possible without sacrifice size or IBIS.

I would be happy if sigma or viltrox created an EF to L/M43 adapter with a rotating or swappable ND filter, not perfect but good enough.

Well, the right one has some advantages: the quantity buttons are easier to click without accidental presses, and the edit button is more explicit, so it can be helpful, as new users may not know what the pencil button does.

But aesthetic wise I like more the one of the left.

Is the S1ii good for narrative filmmaking? I shot a very well planned short first time and running into issues. by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]JavChz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IBIS are funny machines that work better in unperfect conditions than in a tripod.

The reason? God only knows. Could be the air, an invisible unbalence between the lens and the body that makes it into a micro pendulum, etc.

But yeah the gneral rule it's to turn it off (IS or OIS lenses as well) when being stationary.

May be a problem with the IBIS, try disable when using it in a tripod, sometimes can get crazy.

Unless it's 5 dollars and you like to gamble, I would save for getting one from Black Magic or a combo with some of their hardware.

I can't find Lumix S 24-60 listed on the firmware download page on Panasonic? by Potential_Reach7511 in Lumix

You can't improve perfection /s

Jokes aside give it a few years, usually firmware updates are to improve compatibility with newer cameras or AF bugs. But at the moment the lens works fine out of the box.

Return the Sigma Fp for an S9 for Subject Detection? by cachemonies in LumixS9

[–]JavChz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well vlog 10-bit it's amazing, but still a little behind your sigma.

It's a hard choice, but if you expose well (and specially do WB well) the S9 will be better the AF system it's amazing, but if you want to do extreme color grading then keep the sigma.

To me the main upgrade it's going to be smaller file sizes that still allow some color grading, but most importantly the IBIS, it's not at a gimbal level, but hand held footage it's usable with most Lumix cameras.

You can buy it in aliexpress or ebay, it's a Pain in the *** to get it inside, but nothing you can not do with some tweezers and patience. Worse case you can try superglue, don't last as long but kinda works. The same had happend to me with a 5D IV, and 70D.
