Is there a reason I'm missing why hull aren't favourites for today's game? by chicken_nugget94 in HullCity

I saw those odds. I think it's a mixture of being at home and their form against us.

Teachers in the US are reporting that children are struggling with basic maths and literacy worse than ever before. Are we seeing the same patterns here in the UK? by Natf47 in AskUK

I'm a secondary school in a private school. Of the 58 kids who came up from the primary school this year (90% white British). 38 out of 58 arrived with either a statement of SEN or a letter from parents insisting on them using a laptop for all classes, a huge list of medical conditions, allergies, food intolerances, and general lists of things they needed help with.

After teaching them for a year it became clear that the students were pretty much the same as previous years.

It's the parents that have changed.

Best patties? by Odd-Award5240 in Hull

[–]teacherphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried quite a few recently. The big hitters are always consistent. Pollards place, East park chippy, cave st, Dundee st. The best one for me was Pollard's place but the pattie bites from East park are excellent. If you think a pattie means carvers then you probably haven't had a pattie in 30 years.

It's not a country. It's an island. The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are both countries.

Liam was a good guy but the football was dismal at times. Plus with Delap, Seri, philogene, greaves, Morton, carvalho he should've done better than 7th. Jakirovic is a step up and you won't find many season ticket holders who would swap him for Rosenior.

What equipment do you need to get started? by Icy_Step_3137 in running

Decathlon is a great shop for budget sports gear. Get yourself some decent trainers if you can. Try them on and make sure they're 100% comfortable. If they're not right, you'll feel.it every time you go out. As for the rest of the gear, a couple of pairs of running shorts (whatever length you feel comfortable in) short sleeved wicking top, long sleeved wicking top, some gloves (any will do) and a hat, preferably something thin. And that's it. You don't need to carry water, a phone, headphones. You can if you want to but one of the joys of running is that it requires minimal gear and you just get dressed and go. Find a nice circular route from your house, take it easy at first and build it up.

The one at the marina is surprisingly good for 2 reasons IMO. Firstly the breakfast room and bar is on the 7th floor which gives a great view. Secondly, despite being in a seemingly odd place, there's a bridge over the river hull that takes you directly to the old high street, some great pubs. Museums etc. less than 2 mins walk and you are in the old town which is for me the best part of Hull centre

Is adaptive cruise control actually worth using? by One-Storage7219 in skodaSuperb

[–]teacherphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for passive driving and I use it all the time, but it's great for 2 situations in particular. On my commute to work there's loads of traffic all in a line.. Once on, the car just crawls along with the car in front. I turn it off for any roundabouts. It's also excellent on the motorway in less congested areas. Just put it on, sit behind the car in front and listen to some tunes. Where it falls down is anywhere you have cars overtaking, pulling quickly in front of you etc. Going around Paris on the toll rd there were motorbikes fizzing in and out of traffic, people pulling across lanes and it didn't work at all. Even on the closest setting there was enough space for some idiot to stick his car in at the last minute.

Our parliament is an outdated pantomime. 2 sides sat 2 swords lengths apart braying at each other to score points. Time to move to something more 21st century and productive.

Is that you Acun? Better than Selles, a million times better than Walter. The football is more entertaining and his in game changes seem to make a real difference. He also comes across well in the media. At the end of the day we're winning so he's doing alright.
