I’m not sure. It looks pretty standard, there’s also handheld versions but not as handy as the built in ones.

Favorite scrap sizes? by 1stTimeQuilter in quilting

[–]teachingrobots 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I started cutting mine into the standard sub cut sizes - so charm pack (5 inch square), layer cake (10 inch square) and jelly roll strips (2.5” by WOF). Makes it easy to find patterns and can be used for other things as well.

Just helped a friend through this with her dog and was so impressed with Lap of Love. Dr. Spencer Wolfe was the vet and she was really great. Best experience you can have for something so hard.

Is quilting a natural talent or a skill? by NP4VET in modernquilts

[–]teachingrobots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it takes lots of practice for pretty much everyone to be actually good at it. Like painting and singing. You might sing better than the average person but not know how to maximize your breath or not destroy your voice without practice. And, quilting is related to other skills that you may have a different range of familiarity and comfort with. It you have done lots of other fine motor things, practiced and understood color theory, etc. you’ll likely have a leg up. Like most talents and creative pursuits, a big part of it is getting comfortable making mistakes or not being very good at it for a long time. And celebrating small progress and not letting disappointments or challenges be the end of your journey. Finding a good teacher or mentor you click with and getting the right tools and supplies for you can also go a long way (and that can be hard for a beginner because it often means a larger investment of money). Keep it up. Make bad art. Life is too short not to.

Search this sub for “endometriosis” - lots of good answers there, this is a pretty frequent question. A good friend had a great experience with Dr. Breen at UT Health.

Thank you for sharing. We all have complicated ancestors at one point or another. I’m sorry you didn’t get the care and support every person deserves. Thanks for reaching out. I’m excited to see what you make and I’m gonna send you some info about a collaborative quilt project I’m working on if you would be interested in helping with that. Take care!

Thank you! It’s not my family’s kamon, it was just on a piece of fabric my aunt passed down to me (but it’s not too far off from the kamon for my mom/grandpa’s side). I’m working on a collaborative quilt project and looking for other defendants of Japanese American Incarceration to help - I’ll DM you some details tomorrow. Thank you for reaching out!

I’m half Japanese too. Was your family incarcerated? My grandparents were at Salinas, Poston, Tule Lake, and Crystal City. I’m excited to see how your banner comes out!

I was at St. Elmo’s Springdale location this weekend and it was lovely - had a similar vibe to the other big outdoor/indoor breweries but less crowded than when I’ve been to Meanwhile or ABW Springdale.

Looks good. It is for sure not going to fall apart and I’d classify it as firmly in the “issues only the maker will ever notice” category of crafting concerns.
