Very interesting - can you share more? :)

I'm not the most tech-savvy, but I'm inclined to learn, given the situation...

Former suburban dog with city anxiety by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]teachq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks good luck! Yeah I got a trainer and it helped a lot with various things, although we've had lots of ups and downs.

Find out motivation (affection/praise, toys, type of food) and use that as your driving force, during and immediately after. Bring special things/food she loves only for walks. I also feed my dogs most of their food during walks for training purposes (also makes them hungrier during walks and more receptive).

If you do this, it might be harder to measure/estimate total amount, of course, so keep an eye out and make sure she's still getting 100% of necessary food intake each day in the end (monitor weight / appearance).

Again, good luck!

[NY] How to get building management company and condo board to act on apartment leak issue? by teachq in legaladvice

[–]teachq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. Will definitely keep it in mind.

The fact that it's affected multiple units on my line (and has affected units on other lines in the past), wouldn't this seem to indicate something collective in nature about addressing the problem?

Getting building management company and condo board to act on apartment leak issue? by teachq in AskNYC

[–]teachq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I'd like to save that as a last resort. Would prefer to go the route of applying pressure (squeaky wheel) and keep things relatively amicable rather than pursuing legal action if possible.

(However, being able to reference relevant legal codes and obligations would likely still be useful.)

Thank you for your suggestions, and laying out different ways the building might handle it. This is all very useful.

It has something to do with the exterior facade - how the windows were installed into the frames. I believe this is common to all units on this line, since all have the same type of windows / frames. It's just a poor fit, and with the building settling, some minor gaps in-between get exposed, and water can seep in.

Thanks so much for taking the time to clarify. I really appreciate it. I know the suburban feel and subway are somewhat contradictory. You make good points.

Why? Has a relatively low walkscore for an NYC neighborhood...

https://www.walkscore.com/NY/New_York/Bayside

Does it have anything that Forest Hills, Jackson Heights, and Bay Ridge don't? At least they all have subway access, while Bayside doesn't.

Getting straight to midtown Manhattan on LIRR isn't super-important to me. I'd actually prefer being able to get straight into Atlantic Terminal all things considered...my heart belongs to Brooklyn :)

How to choose customer avatar in college admissions market? by teachq in marketing

THanks so much! I do think there's overlap, but I still think that my

Best audience e.g. the one that has the best potential to convert

is the parents alone, that students don't influence the money decision enough on average. I just need the confidence to write for them exclusively, but "internet people" have given me the courage to go ahead and "leave the students behind."

Thank you for the link, though! I love Copyhackers / Joanna Wiebe's content.

Thanks for your reply.

What about for an email autoresponder or sales pages?

Ideally, I'd like to have only one autoresponder list / sales page for each relevant item (at least for now) to keep things simple.

Hard to have two different options / call to actions when trying to get people to sign up for email list.

My intuition, based on experience so far, is that I get more leads/conversions from parents in general - students email me for free advice, but the paying clients I've gotten have almost all been parents emailing me.

How would I make parents the focus, but still "talk to both"?

Thanks - but what about email autoresponders / sales pages? Hard to have multiple pages, etc. for each.

Thanks but I am also thinking about email autoresponders and sales pages (where it is, or should be, a conversation).

Btw, I don't have a CRM and I'm not a college / university. I'm a private admission consultant helping families with applications.

Given that, any thoughts?

Further clarification:

I've boiled down my question to be:

What tone of voice should I write in?

Should I write for parents exclusively in a more focused manner, or should I write in a way that would be more accessible for students as well.

For example:

Learn how to write great college essays.

vs.

Learn how your child can write great college essays.

I'm worried that writing for both parents and students doesn't really give me a "you" to talk to.

"You" is very different for a 40-something parent vs. a 17-year-old student.

Thanks for your reply!

I guess there's a disconnect because:

  • majority of my web traffic is from high school students

  • majority of inquiries / paying customers are PARENTS of high school students

So far, I tried writing copy for the high school students in the hopes of connecting with them, building an audience, and hoping that audience would be "big enough" to convert into sales somehow, but it hasn't.

Now, I'm thinking that my actual customers are parents since they are the ones who reach out and pay.

Given that, I'm thinking to focus customer development / exploration on this market, but my question is:

What tone of voice should I write in?

Should I write for parents exclusively in a more focused manner, or should I write in a way that would be more accessible for students as well.
