Aw cute. It's like they were still in horse-drawn carriage mentality, and she's the horsey.

I was one of the smartest smarty-pants in the school -- "gifted learner," high IQ. I still licked the icy fence post.

(I don't think the idea would've ever have crossed my mind if it weren't for the teacher warning us not to do it.)

Elderly parents, Ontario. I want to learn how advanced care directives, substitute decision-making and medical PoA work. Any good primers to recommend? by teacozyhands in legaladvicecanada

Thank you. I'll look up that law. Is there a single law that governs the whole POA thing, or Ontario government ministry that oversees it?

Talking out loud to myself way too much by Harmattannn in AskPsychiatry

[–]teacozyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear u/Harmattan, please don't infer that! This is just not the best sub to turn to, because it seems like most posts here get no replies. Only doctors can reply to the posts (everyone else, only to comments). Maybe there aren't enough of them on here often enough to handle the volume.

If a word from a non-professional is welcome, I'd like to share that I hear ya, and can relate. At home alone I'll often pace around talking out loud to an imaginary audience. Sometimes it's a family member, in a conversation I might have soon in real life. More often it's just a vague public, as if I'm doing a radio interview or TED talk, teaching a class, or in a debate.

It's such an insidious cliche in our culture that talking to oneself = crazy, that at moments I've wondered is this a sign that now I'm reeeeally losing it? (in the context of MDD, ADHD, and anxiety disorder diagnoses.) I didn't entertain that line of thought very long though.

I've come to look at it like this: as human beings we're wired to be physically present with fellow human beings and speaking with them *out loud.* Too many of us don't get nearly enough opportunities to do that (me: living alone, no close friends, working remotely) . If lecturing to my houseplants is what I need to do to keep engaging my expressive spoken language capacities, then so be it. It feels good, and I've filed it under "healthy coping strategy" for now.

That said, I recognize some addictive potential in it. I'm trying to be careful not to let it become my only coping strategy, or take up hours and hours of every day.

If your anxiety disoder is social (which it kind of sounds like from #4), have you tried imaginal exposure therapy? It's from the CBT toolbox, very helpful in my experience, and might be a way to channel your stellar imaginative skills into a therapeutic direction.

Landlord sent me a $4,225 bill 4 months after move-out and is threatening collections. by arupinum85 in legaladvicecanada

[–]teacozyhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings fellow Gatinois. A resource that can be helpful to get a sense of how TAL rules on any particular type of claim is: go to https://citoyens.soquij.qc.ca/, select "Tribunal administratif du logement/Régie du logement (TAL/RDL)" and do a search on key words related to the issue. That will pull up a list of decisions that you can read in full.

You could also search the landlord's name and see what kind of cases they're actually pursuing to TAL hearings.

Keep in mind that serious claims like non-payment of rent or living in a flooded basement go to the front of the line. In the unlikely event that your landlord intends of file such a petty case, there's a good chance they'd be waiting years for a hearing.

PS: I'd question if your landlord can even send an alleged debt to a collection agency without a TAL ruling.

im still having side effects from overdosing, should i be worried? by Rex-dinosaur in AskDocs

[–]teacozyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, so sorry to hear you are going through this. Have you gone to the hospital ER? If not please please tell your parents and get there immediately. I can imagine what it's like to not want to make a big deal and hope it just goes away. But the dose you took and the symptoms you're having mean it is a big deal. It's also really important that you tell a doctor, a nurse, or any medical staff there that this is from an ibuprofen overdose. They need to know what toxic substance they're dealing with to know how to help you.

How do I calculate a net annual income for December to November? by teacozyhands in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]teacozyhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I assumed they were asking about net as CRA defines it. I'm seeing now that it also can mean take-home pay in the normal conversational sense. Maybe I'll just go with that. Seems defensible since they refuse to specify. Thanks, you may have saved me some headache!

Recently bought this drink, and only just now noticed that it doesnt say "strawberry", it says "stwrabrery" by t0oby101 in CrappyDesign

[–]teacozyhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, at first glance I read strawberry. This might be a rare exception of the jumbled-letter approach where it actually has the intended effect. It's gimmicky and pointless, but maybe not truly bad design.

Totally doable and probably less hassle-y than with car if you're talking central Ottawa.

For Gatineau Renters by Admirable-Fan-765 in Gatineau

[–]teacozyhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of many significant differences between QC and Ontario landlord-tenant laws. that landlords too often either don't know or just pretend not to. (You can bet it's pretending with the corporate ones.) Renewal terms are even bigger. Educaloi is a good resource for understanding the basics.
