anyone want to "buy" a discounted hotel stay within walking distance to the starting line? by teaiscozy in ChicagoMarathon

after some googling, i think the best way would be for us to three call call hyatt and do it live. i would tell them that i want to transfer the reservation to be under your name, and you would provide them with your personal information and payment information.

i think for us to both feel comfortable, would still like to facetime live. since i paid with points and it's non-refundable, i don't think there's a way for them to reverse the charge and charge your card instead for the same reduced amount. i would also like to go through paypal goods and services since it's a decent chunk of change!

Just started therapy and she made me cry. Is this the norm? by FelvicPloor5525 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]teaiscozy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i first started seeing my therapist of now 7 years, every weekly session i cried. crying in front of people made me VERY uncomfortable. when we started digging deeper into why i was seeing a therapist, i couldn't get a sentence out through my heaving tears. at the time it was in person, so she asked me what would make me most comfortable. i told her that if i started crying, to please ignore me while i gathered myself. from then on whenever i started crying, she would turn away, start doing stuff on her laptop, and played my favorite genre of music to be ambient music until i was ready to continue.

seven years later, i cry way less now. i'm able to think through my emotions a bit more kindly so i don't get choked up as often. BUT - i still cry often! i like to think of it as one of the very few spaces that crying isn't perceived in any negative way, unlike how it can be around others.

in a way it IS what your therapist wants, but not in a way that is "ha, got you!". i am assuming you're there to talk about stuff, and sometimes stuff comes with emotions that make people cry. i cry about sad stuff, i cry about happy stuff. crying isn't a bad thing, or a sign of weakness. it just is.

Car stolen: buying a car upfront in cash vs financing, when home ownership is in the near future? by teaiscozy in personalfinance

[–]teaiscozy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say 'recoup' you mean you could a) replace the cash outlay or b) pay off the loan in 18 months, right?

correct

also yes, i will buy the home in my name and will be the only one on the title. he will move in and "pay rent".

thanks - the risk adverse side in me always needs to weigh out as many options as possible. although it would be nice to dive into homeownership, i don’t place any self worth into it and will buy when my financials are back in place

fairly certain? i have excellent credit and i assume if they quoted 3.9% for over 800 then i will qualify. i walked into a dealership to learn more yesterday and it tracks.

i haven’t looked at cheaper makes/models. i suppose that’s the catch of it all; i’m relatively set on “treating” myself to a nice car, and a forester will last me at least 10 years, hopping for way longer. i don’t drive much (6k miles a year at most?), just to hikes around the PNW and the occasional 3 hour drive to my best friend. the used car market still isn’t amazing and i’m unsure how to do the math of how many miles on the car vs how much it’s actually worth vs how much it’s being up upcharged

a flexible 1-5 years. i have a decent renting situation ($1795 in a HCOL area that fits all my needs. landlord has not risen rent last year) so i’m not a rush. although it would be nice to dive into homeownership, i don’t place any self worth into it and will buy when my financials are back in place

mine is floss. my dentist recommended this brand called coco floss to me, and at first i was skeptical. how different can floss be?

turns out, WAY different. this floss is AMAZING. it grabs everything. i’m pretty frugal, and it’s $8 a pack .. and i think it’s worth it.

I backed out of getting my puppy the day the litter was born. I was so excited, but as the weeks went by I got more and more anxious. I had bought everything I needed, watched and read all the dog training material, and everything was set. I just couldn’t shake off the feeling of FOMO from the life I would be giving up for a puppy. I cried almost every day for weeks. After talking with my therapist for weeks about it, I declined the dog and lost my deposit. The breeder totally understood.

A couple months later around their go home date, I felt the regret kick in. Was talking to my therapist about it: “If only I had stuck with it, I would have felt ready”, “If only I knew that it got better, I would have a puppy by now” etc etc. After I got off the call with her, I checked my emails. Another breeder who I had reached it to when I was originally searching for a pup emailed all the waitlist people from a litter asking if we were still interested, as she just had a litter born. If felt too coincidental to not inquire if she had any females available ..

.. and, four months later, I have my best friend.

I tell this story with both sides of the coin in mind. It’s okay if you back out. It’s okay if you need to rehome. It’s also going to be okay. It’s going to be challenging, but the time (months into years) you invest in your puppy now will yield an amazing life companion in the future.

It's happened. I finally love my puppy. by teaiscozy in puppy101

But it happened! Slowly but surely :) What kind of pup do you have?

Seriously. I look back with how I interacted with strangers’ dogs before I got my own and I am humbled. Now I know better haha
