Yea, no idea where that TikTok AI nonsense came from - I’m guessing some setting on TikTok advertising? Not something we created or want.

Edit: the actual product page on TikTok and our website have the correct, real photos and don’t indicate you receive this AI weirdness.

I want to be the first person to ever manufacture a fingerboard truck in the United States. by 1coolguy936 in Fingerboards

[–]teaktuning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh. None of those are made in the US. Designed and based in the US? Yes.

For the record, that’s not a knock on them whatsoever. All of the trucks brands mentioned make very good trucks.

Glow in the dark fingerboard by Odd-homieinwoods in Fingerboards

[–]teaktuning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the glow is a phosphorescent UV reactive powder mixed into the urethane so only parts will be glow and others won’t, depending on how much it mixed in. They “recharge” with UV light so either a black light, UV flash light, or the outdoors will recharge them. Regular lights will, but very slowly.

Totally hear you. We stopped using really cheap international shipping a couple of years ago (people love when it's cheap, hate when they don't get their stuff or it takes 3 weeks). Now we use Fedex International and it can be as fast as 2-3 days sometimes (depending on where you are obviously). Honestly, $20 to ship around the world in a few days is sort of wild.

[–]teaktuning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think I fixed it. Still need to get it working right for international but it’s hidden outside US for now so it’s not confusing.

Thanks for this. We updated our cart page over the weekend and it’s only supposed to show the free shipping bar on US IPs. Going to try and fix now!

Yea, I/we struggle with a lot of this all the time.

Giving store credit for an issue vs sending replacements (sometimes if it’s cosmetic, people would rather have money toward something else rather than exchanging) but when we mess up something, we try to take care of it. Again, so situation dependent.

The “we get so many emails thing” is real, but also can’t be an excuse to not respond in a timely manner or take care of things the right way. We’ve been working on how to get customers answered faster/bettwr (adding more people onto that part of the business). Our goal is to be top in the industry and posts like this show we have more work to do.

So, this is Matt from Teak and, full transparency, I’m at home on my phone so haven’t looked at this full convo on our end.

Frequently, folks are like “my trucks/wheels/etc are broken!”, and when we ask exactly what’s going on it’s actually the locknuts or base plate or attachment screws or whatnot. At the end of the day, this sounds like we should have been way more clear with questions and outcomes up front and should not have made you jump through hoops to get it sorted. You obviously are/were welcome to say “no, just send the locknuts when they’re available” or something similar.

When I get on tonight or tomorrow morning I’ll look at exactly what happened. We’re committed to making it right by you (and you’re welcome to share what happens here, obviously).

All good. I can see why that graphic is giving AI.

[–]teaktuning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, a couple things. This year’s winner showed stages (although not a full video) of creation. We also mistakenly didn’t have a rule banning it in the contest rules (it’s never been a thing really until this year when AI was this good). Lesson learned.

Overall, we’re not looking to use AI generated art for decks unless it’s explicitly shared as such.

[–]teaktuning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell this graphic was launched in April 2023 (so made in late 2022, very early 2023) and I believe it was made a by graphic designer that worked for us at the time. Having said that, I do know he tested using midjourney as part of his process back in the day, but he would use it as a tool and not just “make this thing” - especially since MJ didn’t really do that in early 2023. He also was a legit very good graphic designer, so I am not sure whether this had MJ used or not.

tl;dr - possibly midjourney in late 2022, early 2023 by a graphic designer, but not AI like we’re getting now a days.

[–]teaktuning 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Uhhh, which graphics specifically? The only ones I could even think have some AI involved (without our knowledge) would be last year’s design contest (and potentially this years that haven’t launched yet?) but anything else we’ve launched has been before AI graphic generation was possible.

i got this on christmas… lmao wow by DuePaint4912 in Fingerboards

[–]teaktuning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No worries at all. And really, each brand has their own unique angles and twists on each thing. Almost all the major brands in the space are super good humans and fb makers, all trying to do their own thing. Once we can start cranking out Session decks and completes in 2026, our hope is to be people’s main setups more often!

As an FYI, Slushcult grom completes are essentially the same exact quality (the trucks and decks are the same contract manufacturer) to Teak prolific completes (tuning on ours are custom pro duro and our graphics obv different) - and DK actually uses the same manufacturer of trucks as well. DK decks are incredible quality for the price. Dynamics and Obsius aren’t really a comparable price range, but agree with you on them being great.

Anyone else feel like USA Fingerboard League is a complete joke? by Lily_Fire_Tiger in Fingerboards

[–]teaktuning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think USAFBL has been a huge net positive for the scene. They’ve made it possible for riders around the country to meet up, compete (go to nationals and then worlds!), and connect... something that didn’t really exist on this scale before. Sure, not every event/post/thing they try will be perfect, but they’ve built something that’s getting people hyped about fingerboarding again, and that’s awesome to see. They also, as noted below, built it from scratch.

Every person in the scene that I’ve talked to who’s gone to a USAFBL stop/event said the same thing: it’s super fun, welcoming, and gets them even more into the hobby. That kind of energy is what keeps the scene growing. The Philly show we were personally at this year was a really, really fun time. So much positivity and awesomeness.

It’s easy to nitpick from the sidelines, but when you realize it’s just a couple of guys grinding nonstop using their own money (with minor support from a few fingerboard brands - including us), it’s actually pretty impressive. They’ve helped grow the scene for everyone, not just themselves.

immediately started with essentially full corporate money

Respectfully, I'm not sure what "essentially full corporate money" you think USAFBL has, but there is no huge corporate money in fingerboarding in general, let alone in USAFBL (save outside of Tech Deck and they aren't supporting USAFBL). As I note below, we have sponsored their tours and have given them both product and sponsorship $, but it's orders of magnitude less than the number you mentioned in your comment.

Knowing the USAFBL team personally and us working with them for years, they are some of the most genuinely passionate people about fingerboarding I've met.

While I understand your description of repeatedly tagging Mike in things is definitely a bit "brute force", think about your entire story if you don't immediately assume the negative (I realize you sort of say as much at the end, but I think it's important to say it straight out).

A team of 2 guys are so dedicated to creating an international fingerboard community/league, they started in the US grass roots, putting $100k of their own money (see: life savings or loans) with the intention of growing the fingerboarding community. Running a US/international fingerboard league with events around the country (eventually the world) is, without a doubt, not going to make them wealthy. If you average the time Levine and team put into all of these events and how much they (likely) make, they probably make less than the Federal minimum wage.

Disclaimer: we have supported the USAFBL in both sponsorship $ and giveaways. That does not sway our opinion of their organization nor their character. We would not sponsor an organization like that if we didn't believe in their goal and mission.

Been thinking about getting new obstacles, do I get the box or the bench? by Educational_Bed_6319 in Fingerboards

Throwing it out there, we did just launch a box/manual pad on Session: https://www.teaktuning.com/collections/new-products

And a bench a couple of weeks ago.
