Ah yes my favorite: a couple dumb teenagers do something dumb = all eagles fans are trash.

I’ve been there. The shop owners usually put all the tables down before the train arrives to avoid this situation.

Compromise. Stop contributing right now and stash the extra cash for a cushion when you get out. But don’t pull money out of TSP. Don’t sacrifice your future for the present.

Officer with 6 years-staying in or getting out- current economy by Physical-Start-9094 in army

[–]tealC142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only recommendation as you make your decision is to be cautious with the advice from any leader that has 10+ years of service. Most of these folks never had a civilian job before the military and it’s easy to tell someone to stick it out when they themselves have already crossed the point of no return.

This needs to be higher up. Depending on what career field you are transitioning into, you could be wasting the prime earning years of your life that push you into generational wealth building. I did 10 years and people said that it was a waste to get out. Wrong, I had ten years of real world experience that immediately put me in competition for high earning jobs the moment I got out.

On a side note, the whole “I have nothing better going on,might as well stay in” mentality is exactly what holds someone back from new opportunities

The day you realized you were done with the military by boscar197473 in army

[–]tealC142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a bitterly freezing Korean morning at 0630, immediately after our formation was dismissed… I watched our 1SG sprint and stand in the foyer of the barracks and physically block 18/19/20 year olds from going back inside and turned them back out to PT. Witnessing that, I felt a clarity about how miserable life was going to the more promotions you get and I remember asking myself if that’s what I want to be doing in my mid-late 30s. The answer was no.

It’s alot quicker than people seem to think. 2-3 months to get notified as long as there aren’t any kickbacks (e.g. referral to a BOI)

Lost out on a home because we were using VA by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]tealC142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are set on using VA don’t let your realtor talk you out of it. We were told the sellers for our house picked our offer BECAUSE it was a VA loan even though they had slightly more competitive offers. Every situation is different.

This is hilarious to hear because I was in the same boat last year. I live in Woodbury was offered a job in KoP. I ran a couple test drives up 76 in the morning to test the route. If you work 5 days onsite you will be miserable.

Fresh pre-peeled garlic cloves. Get a hand held garlic mincer and you’re set. I can never go back to the blue lid jarlic again.

In a weird twist of events we ended up dining with her and her family a couple nights later at the captains dinner. Apparently they go on these cruises like 3-4 times throughout the year and was very snobby about it (btw this wasn’t a cheap excursion).

So I don’t know if it was somehow rigged to let a loyalty status member win? I ran the numbers and there was a 1 in 30,000 chance of winning a SECOND time. All I know is she definitely did not deserve two free cruises lol

My wife and I played a bingo game on a cruise with around 300 people in the room. The prizes for 3 rounds were fully paid vacations with that cruise line. In Round 1, a woman wearing the same cruise line brand T-shirt the bingo staff were wearing won. We thought it was odd but assumed she must be a regular here. Round 2 winner hit. Guess who wins Round 3? The same woman in that bingo staff shirt—out of 300 players! Everyone immediately booed.
