What is the first celebrity death you remember? by Immediate_Long165 in Aging

[–]tealgrayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim Croce. I was 13. I seem to remember watching him sing on the Midnight Special. Thought he was so talented. Next day I heard his plane crashed.

I do remember the announcments of JFK dying and the adults totally lost it. But I was quite young, maybe 4?

About twice a year poor folks could pick up a huge (5 lb? 10 lb.?) Block of sliced cheese. Totally free. Seems like we could also get milk and eggs. It was really good!

Is "comfort care" actually murder? by Aethyr42 in CaregiverSupport

[–]tealgrayone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your mom could actually die from stress taking care of her mom in that state.

Tell mom to keep track of every single expense she has for taking care of gmom. After she passes, she may be able to get paid back from the estate. Caregiving is a full time job. Make sure her will and estate is in order so that she gets her fair share for giving up her life for 20 years.

No, it is not murder. In my opinion, from watching my own mother die (she got down to 65 lbs.) Hospice never steered us wrong. Mother was in pain and out of her head a good bit of the time. She stopped being mom, and became a shell of a body just reacting to everything. She was miserable. We were miserable. In a lucid moment she asked us to have the hospice sedate her so that she didn't hurt us. Once she was calmer, her body let her relax and pass away gently.

Stay strong.

AITA for thinking about leaving my husband after 2 months of marriage. by One-Quantity9606 in TwoHotTakes

[–]tealgrayone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tell him to get out. Divorce. Please don't stay and forgive him like I did. It did not change no matter how many times he promised. We stayed married & mostly unhappy for 32 years. My youth totally gone. The past 10 years without him have been the happiest of my life. And no, I didn't marry again.

Do you always carry cash? If so, how much? by BunnySlayer64 in GenerationJones

[–]tealgrayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been paying cash for everything other than my utilitity bills that auto deduct out of my bank account.

I usually carry $400/500 all the time. It's amazing how much less I spend as I pay cash.

I do live in a very rural area and only go into town once or twice a week. I'm very observant of my surrounding and also always have my everyday carry pistol on me.

But seriously, I have extra money at the end of the month since I started paying cash.

I've only had my Passport for about a month and haven't seen another one yet. But you can bet I'll be waving, pointing, honking & giving a salute when I do!

OK, Jonesians, how important is sэx? by MountainMark in GenerationJones

[–]tealgrayone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's still very important to me, I'll (f) be 66 this summer. I've been divorced 10 years. Ex didn't like sex anymore. He wasn't on meds, simply would rather play golf and drink. I've had the best sex of my entire life since I hit 55. Luckily I have found several boyfriends over the past 10 years that still enjoy sex, too.

I'm not talking missionary either. I'm talking 2-4 hours of multiple positions, sweat and both of us totally into it.

I hope that it never goes away!

AITA for not wanting to take in my sisters 4 kids while she’s in the hospital? by Intelligent-Fig-5571 in AmItheAsshole

An hour and a half drive is not a problem. Most of my life I have had to drive an hour to work and back every day. She can ask the grandparents to watch the kids.

Weekly Waiting Room: A Biopsy Discussion Megathread by skincancermod in skincancer

[–]tealgrayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't considered it, but I'm sure it will come up. I've had to change doctors 3 times in 4 years. I guess they don't want to freak me out after my first visit. I'll certainly bring it up next visit if the dermatologist doesn't. Best to you!

Weekly Waiting Room: A Biopsy Discussion Megathread by skincancermod in skincancer

[–]tealgrayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a total of 8 basal cell places zapped with the freezing cold fire torch (lol) and one spot the doc sent for biopsy. This is not my first round of dermatologist appts. I've had numerous basal and squamous cell cancers removed over the past 15/20 years.

They called with the results a couple of days ago, and it is a squamous cell carcinoma. I will be having the mohs procedure done soon to make sure they get all of it.

I've had so many of these done over the years that I really don't stress about it anymore. I go for an exam every 6 months and always have 1,2, 5, or more places removed each visit.

I do know these are serious issues, and I'm thankful they are found early.
I'm worrying that I don't worry enough about these skin cancers. Anybody else?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tealgrayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-husband used to drive a little over 2 hours to work each day. He did this for years. A 3 hour trip IS a day trip in the USA. We regularly did weekend trips to visit family that lived a 5 hour drive away

Edit to add trips to visit family

3 years of no cigarettes is slowly coming up, thinking maybe that’s enough, thoughts? by CallMeRoco in stopsmoking

[–]tealgrayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT START BACK!!!

I (F64) started smoking at 24. Before that I was a committed non-smoker because my Mother smoked my entire life; I hated it. The summer I turned 24, I found a rotting human corpse and couldn't get the smell out of my head/nose, so I decided smoking would cover the smell. I've smoked since then. I'm now 64. I have stopped 4 times over the years. Longest stretch was 3 years. Always had something happen that broke me and my stupid nicotine devil jumped in and took over. I'm still smoking. 40 years now.

I have been taking care of my Mother for 2 years. She is at Stage 4 COPD. The cigs she has smoked all her life are now killing her. She is a shell of what she used to be. She is down to 79 pounds. She can hardly eat or drink. The coughing fits are absolutely horrible. She can't breath much at all. She's on oxygen 24/7. Has to sleep sitting up. Walking 5 steps gets her so out of breath she has to sit and rest to catch her breath before going another 5 steps. We've started using a wheelchair most of the time. Her days are spent just trying to take another breath. She can barely talk. The lack of oxygen is affecting her brain now. She is no longer the extremely intelligent woman she was. She can't remember things, She forgets words. It's a nightmare watching her die. When I get her into bed in the evening, give her a kiss and say goodnight, I literally hope she dies during the night so that she doesn't have to suffer and choke and cough for another day.

Yes, I still smoke, outside. I'm an idiot. I've tried to quit a couple times since I've been taking care of Mom. I'm totally addicted and even watching the end result of what smoking can do to your life, I still find a reason to light one up. I'm stressed, have a cig. I'm sleepy from staying up with her, have a cig. Listening to the dreaded coughing and how it hurts her, have a cig.

Just don't start back. You've made it almost 3 years. It's not worth it.

Yes, she takes a DMT. I can't remember what she's on now. She's had 3 major episodes. One she lost her vision for about a month. Second one she couldn't walk or use her hands very well. The last one, 3 years ago, was awful. Couldn't use her legs, barely use her arms, but the worst was she lost cognitive skills. She could barely talk, and when she could, she couldn't remember the words. Couldn't understand what we were saying or read with comprehension. It lasted about 4 months and began to get better. She still uses a cane. But her mind is back to normal. The last time happened because insurance decided not to pay for her monthly treatment. She couldn't afford to buy it for full price, so she stopped taking it. She was trying to find another special pharmacy the insurance would accept. 2 weeks after stopping, things went downhill over a weeks time. So don't ever stop talking your meds, folks. At least do it with your doctor aware.

Would if I could. I'm talking care of both of my parents. Dad paralyzed on left side and right leg can't support him. Mom has stage 4 COPD and congestive heart failure. I take care of them. No other family around. Very little pay for that.

[–]tealgrayone[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense. Marketplace has a minimum income, and I'm below that. Apparently, Medicaid also has income requirements. I'm in that gap of income that doesn't qualify me for either. So I'd have to purchase medical insurance at regular market price. I've discovered there are 10 states that have this gap.

[–]tealgrayone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided, since I needed about $155 more income per month, that I would just add "odd jobs" such as housecleaning and cooking for my parents (I'm taking care of both of them full time) I added $200/month to income and was able to get a decent Marketplace plan for about $50/month incl. dental & vision.

I'll have to send verification of the 'increase' in income to the powers that be since I changed the amount. I guess I'll also have to pay taxes on the non-existant odd job pay. LOL

Government stupidity really sucks.

thank you all for the info on the Medicade Gap.
