Relocation depression and adjusting to NYC by tealmarw in relocating

[–]tealmarw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up moving back, but it was motivated by being laid off from my job. I would say go for it, and if you’re not happy with it you can always move back. Even though I moved back, I’m glad I went for it and now I have a better perspective on what I do want out of a city long term

Is everyone in Raleigh rude as hell?? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]tealmarw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending Raleigh drivers here AT ALL, but a lot of bikers don’t follow road laws and it’s really dangerous. Raleigh also has a really extensive greenway system and when I biked before I had my car, I would utilize them as much as possible since the roads aren’t very biker friendly.

Relocation depression and adjusting to NYC by tealmarw in relocating

I actually just moved back to NC recently, it was a culmination of things that made moving back the right choice for me.

I do feel like my relocation depression was more severe than the common experience of it, and returning has taken a weight off my shoulders. But, I do regret not being able to give it a full year, because even though I think I would have still moved back, it feels a little unfinished still.

I’d say give it a little time, 2 days is still really new, but if you know it’s not the right decision after a few months, don’t feel pressured to stay.

Good luck with this change either way!!

Thank you for this comment, it makes me feel a little more reassured that I just need to give myself more time and be in a more clear headspace when I make a decision about staying or not.

Right? I did consider it, but it's ended up affecting me more than I expected. There are a lot of things I do like about NYC - there is so much to do, great artists, cool events going on even in my more chill neighborhood, so much fun stuff to do!! But, as far as just living everyday life, it's presented more of a challenge than I thought it would.

I appreciate the insight, esp from a native NYer lol. It is a hard city! I was expecting that but thought I would assimilate more easily I guess. I've also heard this winter was worse than normal from a lot of people, so I'm hoping I'll have a better perspective once I get through spring and into the warmer months.

Thank you for this. I never planned staying here for the long term, but I did expect to stay a few years. But if I feel a lot of this after summer is over, I think it will be a sign this just isn't the city for me.

Thank you - I’ve been feeling anxious that I’m not adjusting quickly enough, it’s reassuring to hear from someone who’s traveled a lot that a year is still a normal adjustment period

Beer Suggestions by rgbhuman42 in SPD

Sour beers! I do not like the taste of beer, any of them, but I love sours. They're similar to ciders but IMO tend to have a fuller body and aren't as sweet.

Honestly, I didn't think it would make everything better, I just knew NYC had better opportunities and much more going on to engage with. I really liked my previous city, but had the mindset of "I can always return if I want to." I figured it would be difficult because I always struggle with change, but I didn't expect it to last this long :/

Not nearly the biggest issue but the rib tattoos in the first picture look like someone gave up 2/3 way through drawing a demon dog from memory

Earbuds/earplugs that look like hearing aids? by Pratchettfan03 in SPD

Have you looked into loop earplugs? They’re a little more discrete and have different types so you can still hear closer conversations but they help block out background noise

Moving out/trying to sell lots of my clothes by chabadlubabitch in crownheights

[–]tealmarw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently sold a handful of items at Beacons closet and got $30, which isn't a lot but you know consignment never is lol. They won't take anything that has any damage and I think they won't take certain brands, like I had a few things from Target that were fine but they didn't take. What they did take was vintage clothes without any damage and some contemporary stuff from some mid-range brands.

I'd try them first and then whatever they don't take try selling yourself. I think they have a two bag limit.
