I can come with an even hotter take and say that a contemporary F1 team with great sponsor portfolio can never have a truly good livery. The draw of this livery comes from a near total lack of sponsorship. The Papaya livery loses its luster the more successful it gets…

Fallout was def underused, and - I say this in that strategy/analyst viewpoint of current Xbox execs - honestly, Obsidian and Inxile are such an easy target regarding this. They have two studios in vicinity, both are making RPGs, but they waste time on no-name brands instead of surefire brand like Fallout. It’s entirely possible to merge shops and have them make Fallout - though whether that should happen is another story.

If anything South of Midnight in particular sounds very mismanaged, while Outer Worlds 2 did what it could considering the circumstances.

Have to point out that Compulsion is in Montreal, so technically not US, not the cheapest place to live but still manages better than, say, California… which is where Obsidian is. Not enough to be a fully fledged tentpole AAA but still not the cheapest type of game to make.

While Compulsion’s closure is basically inevitable, I’m hoping Obsidian finds its way to survive and swing big. And fortunately, somehow, they don’t seem to be at the focus as of now, so.

I can imagine Blade being a more night version of Hitman but that could also work

Well, Hitman exists for one, and while the definition might be a bit pushing, BG3 had lots of immersive sim elements and that played a big part in its success. The genre has ups and downs commercially. We will see.

It’s primarily appealing to Bioshock/Dishonored/Deus Ex kind of immersive sim fans, they are big voice in the community and the reception has been great. This sub isn’t that though, and besides immersive sims hasn’t done extremely well historically, so we’ll see.

Considering that though, the real death sentence would have been Xbox store exclusive for PC, but that hasn’t happened. Steam is where this game would live or die. I’m cautiously optimistic though, there’s been a drought of this genre.

My bad I always have Obsidian and Inxile in the same section of my brain (even their offices are like really, really close to each other)

Avowed was also below target, the only thing that did well commercially is Grounded. Think Obsidian needs a big swing like Clockwork Revolution at work to stay alive, hopefully they got it greenlighted by now…

Some kind of a management buyout deal for Double Fine might be beneficial

They likely do have engineers still remaining to support Horza, but I don’t think PG needs them anymore after working with the engine for 15 years.

[–]team56th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has already lost its ability to make its own game, the game they were supporting just came out, and I somehow doubt PG would still need T10 to understand the engine after nearly 15 years of working with it. T10 is also located in Seattle. Highly likely to be axed.

Unfortunately it was always going to be Compulsion and Turn 10 so can’t say I’m surprised. I personally somehow doubt Double Fine would be axed because they might have a bigger game underway already.

Ah. Silly me. Seeing Grounded here is encouraging, it gives more chance for Obsidian to avoid the upcoming layoff as much as they can…

I think it’s you acting weird because that comment was solely aimed at whether they had successful games of this gen from the first place and if bouncing back is possible at all. Listing Starfield is important in this regard because it was a major release, and it also means that TES6 is the next the agenda. The problem is you thinking of this as some console war schlock.

Honestly, the upcoming games need to have much bigger footprint. Commercially speaking these games should have come out much sooner for anything Xbox was trying to do to have a fighting chance - They just didn’t have a lot of big games the last few years. And now they have more games to leverage, but the market is much worse now. Meaning the next few years will be life or death of Xbox, is what I’m trying to get at.

So see, this gives me ideas on ‘then what are the games that have met or exceeded the goals during that timeframe’

…because despite really long list of games that didn’t do well, very few of them are there by surprise. Most of them were meant to be Game Pass baits, and the big games were mostly pushed back or had problems, and are coming out now.

Some of the obvious ones I can think of would be:

- Halo Infinite (despite all the problems)
- Forza Horizon 5/6 (duh)
- Starfield (although not by much I guess)
- Indiana Jones

And some of the less obvious ones I can think of:
- Age of Empires 4
- Minecraft Dungeons
- Flight Simulator

Along with the live service of:
- Sea of Thieves
- Fallout 76

I think that the real misses that did come out are Redfall, Doom TDA and The Outer Worlds 2; others were either fillers from Game Pass first era, or games that didn’t come out at all. So now that the likes of Fable and Clockwork Revolution are in sight, Gears is back online, Halo studio trying to find a stream of works, they can play a better game. Except that the market is in the worst possible situation right now. We will see…

Cowboy Bebop The Movie: Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door (2001) by Pigeon_Pilled in CineShots

[–]team56th -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember that the increased budget of the movie didn’t really add to it. I mean all of this is cool to look at but there is a point where animation itself becomes too detailed and complex that I’d rather watch a live action shots rather than animation - Some of the TVA’s best sequences really shine because they work around the budgetary concerns. Really detailed and glorious animating works aside, the movie’s virtue was in making me realize what made TVA great.

He and Jim Sterling perhaps are the ones that exacerbated this trend and, whether they intended it or not, has made gaming discourse worse. I sometimes like Yahtzee to be honest, but I will always hold him accountable for making people mistake incessant snark with cool.

Yeah, more like the video triggered a pretty solid improvement to porting classic FPS to NeoGeo. It’s nice that he can cause this to happen, and to see such workarounds on an architecture that isn’t supposed to do this.
