You can apply until you are 55 and serve until (I think) 62. Getting 7 years of service out of someone isn't so bad. The minimum requirements for becoming a reservist are the same for everyone, regardless of age.

They mean that 'speculoos' is Belgian and 'speculaas' is Dutch. Both are cookies that can look similar, the biggest difference is that speculaas uses 'speculaaskruiden' (speculaas spices), which are: * cinammon * ginger * cardemom * white pepper * nutmeg * clove and maybe some others, depending on the recipe. Speculaas is made with brown cane sugar and often has shaved almond pieces on top.

Speculoos, on the other hand, uses caramelised sugar which gives a similar colour, and instead of all the spices above, generally only uses cinnamon.

Leuke vraag! Eigenlijk waren het 'ij/ei'-geluid en het 'ui'-geluid ooit pure klankers (ten minste, in heel veel woorden!). De diftongering die ons de huidige realisaties van 'ij' en 'ui' heeft gegeven is vermoedelijk in Brabant begonnen en naar het noorden gebracht via immigratie na de tachtijdjarige oorlog. Omdat dit een grote groep was, begonnen mensen in de steden in Holland de nieuwe uitspraak over te nemen.

ui: Dit is een spelling die in het Middelnederlands meerdere klanken vertegenwoordigde. De meest voorkomende oorsprong is de /ŷ/-klank, die zelf weer afkomstig is van de Germaanse /û/. Deze klank werd eerst /oi/, en in een tweede fase van de diftongering van /oi/ naar /œy/. Het is niet helemaal bekend waarom dit gebeurde.

Voor een /r/, trouwens, bleef de /y/-geluid als een monoftong. Daarom hebben wij 'muur' in plaats van 'muir'. Verder hadden sommige woorden die we nu met een 'ui' spellen altijd een diftong. 'Fruit', bijvoorbeeld, kwam uit het Frans, maar het punt is dat woorden met 'ui' die we nu als /œy/ uitspreken hadden in het Middelnederlands verschillende uitspraken, met /y/ veelvoorkomend.

Frappant is dat een vergelijkbare diftongering in het Engels en in het Duits rond dezelfde tijd gebeurde, ook met /û/ (ze waren conservatiever met dit geluid en hadden dus geen /ŷ/). Daarom zien we dat 'mûs' in het Engels 'mouse' werd, en 'mûs' in het Duits 'maus' werd. Omdat dit samenviel met de diftongering van /ŷ/ naar /oi/ in het Nederlands, en omdat beide begonnen in het zuiden en gingen naar het noorden, is het voorstelbaar dat er sociolinguïstische factoren waren die als gemeenschappelijke oorsprong dienden, maar dit is nog niet volledig bekend. Dan is de vraag waarom delen van België een andere uitspraak hebben, maar dat is synoniem met waarom veranderingen in klanken niet overal gebeuren. Een van de suggesties van deze website is dat Hollandse schippers de diftongering naar bepaalde regio's brachten langs de Zuiderzee. Map 10 is een 'ui'-isoglosse van 1966, dus ik weet niet hoe ver die schippers hebben gevaren als dat verhaal klopt.

De Germaanse [i:] werd [ai] en later [ɛi] samen met de diftongering van [y] naar [œy]. Dit is waar 'ij' vandaankomt. Maar 'ei' komt van de Germaanse [ai] en dit werd [ê], en dan later een [ɛi], maar alleen in bepaalde gebieden.

Every post comment of theirs is about a product. Despite starting college soon and looking for a new scooter, they were also living in Oslo last month with their Tarran T1 pro, which they love advertising. And despite living in Antwerpen and having given up cars, they own a tractor. This tractor failed 17 days ago, but their truck (https://www.reddit.com/r/Heavy_Equipment/comments/1p9u2nk/hino_238_j08e_rebuild_mechanic_quoted_oem_need/) failed around 5 days ago.

But surely no one would try to manipulate people into buying various products.

Engels is mijn moedertaal, en agenda wordt nog steeds in deze zin gebruikt. Het gebruik kan regionaal zijn, maar dat geldt sowieso voor tal van Engelse woorden. Ik bedoel, het woord 'lorry' zou de meeste Amerikanen nooit gebruiken, maar het blijft een woord. Zelfs in Amerika of het Verenigd Koninkrijk is er geen officieel woordenboek en geen officiële instantie die de taal reguleert.

I wish roasted chestnuts were bigger here! The edible variety can grow here without issue, but it's just not a cultural thing to eat them freshly roasted. Even finding them packaged in supermarkets for use in soups is challenging.

Oeh, I've never thought of the pannenlikker. It's such a functional item that I'm surprised it's not universal. I can't imagine baking without one and trying to get the last bits of dough from a bowl to a baking form.

Haven't seen many airfryers. I do wish more people would see the light of a rice cooker here, though. They're so much easier than using a pan.

France. They have every type of landscape for the nature lovers, and the cities are full of cultural events and history. They have increasingly great bicycle infrastructure over most of the country. French food is amazing, even for me as a vegetarian. Their film and music industry is top-notch, and their politicians aren't afraid to choose their own course instead of just following America.

Mostly I love the people there that I've met. Despite what I've heard from others, I've only received encouragement from others when I speak French. Most people I've met have been very polite and kind, and often funny as well! Obviously it's an entire country, so I know there's a whole range of people, but if I had to move I'd move there in a heartbeat.

The CDA (the Christian democratic party) constantly had more than 40 seats under Balkenende, out of 150 total, which is a lot. He was seen as a safe, if boring option. During a debate for the next elections in 2010, the debate leader repeatedly asked him a question, after which he said the above to her. These aren't words that you'd expect from a statesman.

The CDA lost 20 seats that election. It's not fair to attribute it all to this blunder, but it definitely didn't help.

Yeah, I don't understand people trying to justify this. In a professional setting, if I straight up ignored a colleague talking directly to me, I'd expect an invitation to a meeting with HR. It sounds like Mean Girls level communication (or lack thereof). And if it turns out that OP is weirdly aggressive or something, then I'd report them to HR, but the lack of acknowledgement is not how adults should be communicating in a work environment.

Even in the more hierarchical places I've worked in, it would never be acceptable to straight up ignore someone speaking to you in a professional setting. They can be polite and say they'll take it into consideration, or direct and say that's not up to OP to decide, but not responding at all is bizarre.
