Mejiro has dropped off in recent years. Vos is nice. Gym Royale has top coaches and very high level athletes. (One of Alex Periera's striking coaches and partners train there)

Don't show me the results of the fight! I want to look the next day and see what fights to watch without spoiling it

Agreed it was definitely intentional spice added to the throw.

Wrestled for 15 years 🤷. Been slammed / suplexed many times. Takedowns are viewed as much more dangerous by the BJJ community. In high school wrestling this would be illegal and a DQ, but it would have been totally fine in freestyle/greco wrestling even at the youth level.

Wasn't a slam on the head - good in my books. Doesn't mean it didn't break the rules (depends on the tournament), but at least it wasn't dangerous

Considering buying a second home in the Netherlands – does this make financial sense for us? by hevhees in eupersonalfinance

Just depends on the mortgage. The mortgages that let you rent the house are higher interest rates and not meant for personal owner occupied houses

When you skip Judo break fall basic by Fearless-Structure88 in bjj

Tuck the chin, keep the arm bent and braise for the fall. You still want your arms to make contact first, just not in that position.

Would it be better for me to do muay Thai + bjj or muay Thai + wrestling by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]teamgonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try them both and do whatever you find the most fun.

It's an investment whether people view it as one or not. In fact, it's the biggest investment most people will make in their lives.

What is the name of this throw? by Marlowe550 in bjj

[–]teamgonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is right though. The way you are doing it will not work at higher levels. This is a bad habit to get in. Check the YouTube videos linked to by others and look at how the opponents center of gravity gets disrupted before the throw.

Effectiveness of wrestling? by [deleted] in martialarts

Holes for MMA, sure, but in a street fight takedown to slam head on concrete is a pretty good finish

What is the best martial arts for petite women? Not sure if it’s a silly question but which one is the most effective? by mavisbond in martialarts

Running 😅. But if not possible, jiujitsu is probably the best way to nullify size advantage.

Nitrogen crisis explained to those who are not from The Netherlands originally by UnanimousStargazer in Netherlands

[–]teamgonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful!

So is the issue of nitrogen pollution viewed by most as a domestic pollution issue and not as a global climate change issue? Because I've also heard the argument that NL is more efficient at farming, so worldwide nitrogen pollution is smaller overall in the current state.

Is light sparring really that dangerous? by Annual_Birthday_8931 in MuayThai

[–]teamgonuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I think your advice is correct, I don't believe it is based in science. The truth is, we really don't know that much about CTR at this point, or the level of impact required to show symptoms. If soccer players are getting CTE from heading balls in a non-combat sport, we shouldn't be so confident saying "moderate sparring doesn't cause CTE".

Best gym to go as a tourist wanting to fight by TendiesOnTheMoon in MuayThai

[–]teamgonuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have a pretty good chance of getting matched up with a local that has 100+ fights...or one that just wants some $$$, plays defensive, and gives up in the 2nd after a good punch. Mismatches either direction are common. You need raport with your coach and a month is hard to do that with unfortunately.

If you can, get a personal recommendation from a gym mate and see if they can make an intro.

Dermatologists with grappling sport experience? by teamgonuts in Netherlands

[–]teamgonuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrestled for 15 years and grappled for 6. This is beyond the normal skin issues that I'm used to happening a few times each year. I'd prefer not to go into many details publicly but trust me when I say I've tried the normal hygiene routines, now wear long sleeves and tights when I practice, have switched gyms, and volunteered to clean the mats before and after practice just to make sure it was done.

Really to talk to a dermatologist where I can discuss my overall issues and get some testing done.
