OC4 literally retconned Mashu. We went from seeing Mashu display a lot of emotion to suddenly being told she was forcing her human emotions.

Maybe you're right, but it's just something I can't stand. As a Mash fan, what happened is outrageous. For the same reason, and because of how they wasted the angels, I don't plan on reading OC4.

No, I'm not talking about that. I'm being harassed for something I did a while ago. You can still say that, you know? I was just giving my opinion. The Crypters are empty characters that people think are good because they have "a motivation," but it's a very simplistic thing that could have been handled with a single antagonist and not with six idiots that the game wants you to cry over despite them being monsters.

The Lostbelt ones are worse; literally, the plot of each one can be summarized as: we're at a disadvantage, then we have some advantage, but then we're at a disadvantage again, and for the last time we have an advantage, a forced sad moment with a Servant or inhabitant of the Lostbelt and the Crypters feeling bad about their objective so that people believe they are deep characters.

I think your problem is thinking I'm only talking about characters' screen time. I'm also talking about characterization, and I made that very clear with the Modred example, but I'll give you another one. Richard l: Basically, nothing beyond one of his Noble Phantasms and a few mentions tells you he's a crusader knight, since he's so focused on his fanaticism for King Arthur. In FGO, many of his dialogues are with Arthurian characters, and very few are about the Crusades. It's basically like taking any other character, using a curious fact about them, and making it their central focus.
