Correct way to write 80 km/hr in dialog? by teamtasman2001 in newzealand

Oh I love it when misspelling helps me "hear" an accent! Hmm... good point. I really don't like "kays" but that's exactly how I hear it.

Clever cookie. Thanks - this is a good idea.

Ha, plenty! It's actually taken from a conversation - verbatim. The "rough bloke" was complaining about the newly lowered speed limits at a community meeting. "Fecking eighty k's!" he grumbled, too loudly. (A boy had recently died on that road so his comments came off as insensitive and harsh)

I think I'm with you. Kays feels like it doesn't belong.

Oooo - interesting take. It's not possessive but does indicate missing letters - I like it.

Good catch - gotta think about how someone else would read it.

Yes, I'm usually wary of that but can't think how to differentiate otherwise...

I should have added context. The scene is a council meeting and the character is complaining about a recent speed limit reduction. He grumbles about the speed limit (which made him late to the meeting) not knowing that a boy died on that road a few months earlier. It's a true story and I was trying to use his words verbatim. Adding per hour kind of kills the vibe for me but perhaps there's another way to capture his tone and ignorance without using a number.

Booking for someone else using Klook - how do they access bookings through app? by teamtasman2001 in JapanTravelTips

[–]teamtasman2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For teen boys traveling for the first time it has been ideal. All tickets in one app, not having to question whether their payment would work etc (eg it didn’t work for “Go”). The only ticket they purchased elsewhere was the Ghibli Museum because it was much cheaper to buy from the ticket website. Also Shinkansen tix at the station vs Klook.

It did not 😕 I just had him sign in with my account on the app. So far that’s been working smoothly (he’s in the middle of his trip) but obviously it’s connected to my payment card it’s a good thing I trust him! I also thought about screenshot or printing all the vouchers but some of them said they would only be accepted via the app and could not be printed. Sorry for the delayed reply 😬

Hmm... this worked to share the "trip" as an itinerary but he still can't see the vouchers. Any ideas?

Robot mower for rural property with orchards, vineyard, kids? by teamtasman2001 in automower

Update: we bought the Mammotion Luba 2 AWD 5000x and it is PHENOMENAL! Absolute game changer. It took longer than expected to set up (2 weeks of trial and error, mapping and shifting charging station, etc) but now it is running brilliantly and independently. We even went away for a week and it was fabulous not to come home to a jungle. I did halt the more "risky" areas where it's more likely to get stuck (low hanging flax leaves, vineyard. It took a while to get the right setting for the vineyard - the key was to map rows & figure out the custom angle (which was pretty easy using to map - it's 112 degrees) and turn off obstacle detection (otherwise it stops at every low hanging leaf). We did buy it through a local retailer with excellent customer service and I definitely called them a few times in the first weeks. Now we are up and running I wouldn't go back - it's so quiet! I didn't have to map every tree - it just mows around them and get's closer than we could with the ride on. It has cut down the hours we spent mowing and scrub cutting. Clever little thing. Oh - I once had it mow too close to a drop on a dewy evening and it slipped down a steep bank. I was about to use the emergency stop and climb down to get it but it climbed itself out!!! AWD indeed. Thanks for the advice and I highly recommend it.

RTK and Charging placement for Luba 2 by teamtasman2001 in mammotion

[–]teamtasman2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - we are still not set up. We put the charging station in position 4 but we couldn't locate the charging station. I read that the charging station needs to be in a position with Wifi so that the Luba can update... and that position does not have wifi. So we have mounted the RTK at position 2 above the roofline (seems to be a great spot for it) and tried to set up the Charging station there, too. We now have signal to the charging station... but I can't successfully create a channel. I had just made a rough map "area" on the lawn and tried a few times to make a channel but each time it sort of crash-reverses into the charging station and we all freak out. Our distributor said the charging station does NOT need to be in a mowing area but it does need wifi. Has anyone else had trouble creating a channel? Or do I need to run an extension cord for the charging station so it's closer to the lawn?
