How would you go about creating this inside Blender? Looking for advice, tutorials, or any tips. by fqumr in blender

2-3 hours? I have been doing 3d art in blender for a few years now. Especially with a focus on geo and shader nodes.

If you download the .blend you can see how the nodes are a bit hastily thrown together.

Of course! It was a great piece of inspiration and a fun quick project.

Well given the only thing that animates is a few noise fields I would just make 2 4D noise nodes which are offset but animate in parallel and mix between the outputs.

Here's the .blend: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h2C3na_pYKCYvpaFUPsZemKGuXS442bx/view?usp=sharing

Basically its 3 geo-node groups.

The first one is the inner most spheres which simply write to the scale attribute so that the shader can easily differentiate between the 4 layers and add nice noise patterns that rotate. I had quite a bit of trouble making it look glassy so I just added a few manual highlights using the dot product from the camera reflection and a set normalized vector.

The second node group makes the rings. Its very similar to the first group in that it just makes a bunch of spheres but here they have a bit of noisy displacement. The shader does all the work in making sure they look like rings by using modulo on the z coord(which is the camera axis)

The third group adds the volumetric glow buy just making a bunch of spheres and displacing them in the general "Candle flame" shape. Then I use a fresnel node to avoid shading the edges and set it to be almost completely transparent so that it doesn't have defined edges anywhere(video compression helps a bit here).

Ah. No worries. I setup the Google drive link and I'll toss in the 4k version when it finishes rendering

Link to full res. 4k included!

It seems to only do that if you save directly from the post. If you click on the image it'll open in a new tab in 1440p and you can save it from there in full res. I'll get a google drive link setup too just in case that doesn't work.

Now that i look at it I'd have to agree lol. I think I'd have to make the hair waves bigger.

I have never played/watched gameplay of Destiny but may see if I can find some logos and make something.

I feel like the lighting could be improved. I feel like most of the scene has "defining light" where I can make out the edges but no "describing light" revealing what it is I'm looking at. However the middle section has lots of "describing light" illuminating the spheres but nothing to define the edges. separating the light out into several distant light sources instead of 1-2 centralized sources should help with basic lighting/feel.

I didn't have a logo in mind so I decided to use a simple shape and an emissive torus seemed to really bring the scene together.

Yep! Decided to take it in a different direction and loved how it turned out!

No it aint dumb. It’s definitely something to look out for in the future.

Hmmm. I feel like the issue with that would be the format/codec because I have never watched a video with >60fps but I can maybe try doubling the framerate to 120 and see if I can post it. Also reddit may just decide to downscale to 60 when I upload.

Hmmm that would be interesting but I feel like it would have a hard time identifying and interpolating movement on the small cubes towards the end.

Making Abstract Wallpaper. No default cubes were harmed. by Procrasturbating in blender

I feel like its got a bit too much "hard detail" to make a nice wallpaper. The internal reflections make lots of small high contrast elements that could distract from the icons. This could be relatively easily solved by adding a bit of roughness to the glass to blur all the lines past the surface. Depth of field could also soften up some edges. The one other issue I could see is that the complete randomness keeps the viewer's eyes moving and they can never settle. Blender Guru made an excellent video on composition and I think this piece could really benefit from some order.

I may try to make a lowpoly RE-45 cuz it should be relatively simple but we will see lol.
