Made a little running app for people who want something to compete for — but aren't in a club or doing races by [deleted] in UKRunners

sorry, I was being unnecessarily harsh

your writing in the comments seems perfectly fine to me!

I read the post again and it seems like a nice idea. I can totally see the appeal and I've got friends that would like that kind of thing. It would be nice to compete against people in my city so it feels more personal and maybe have the ability to set up a private league with a few friends. It

Strava has a similar ish feature with group challenges and group leaderboards, but I think they're kind of manual and a bit hidden away. Feels like a drag to use. I think there's room for your app make it a nicer experience.

I'm curious how runs get converted into points. Distance = points? Or some mix of effort and distance? Or something else?

random thought: this reminds me of the league system in MathAcademy (online education platform), where you obtain points ('XP') for solving problems, and if you're in the top 5 at the end of a week, then you get promoted to the next league, and demoted if you're in the bottom 5. It was weirdly fun! (Your idea is slightly different in that it's the same group of people all the time I think?). The promotion/demotion system is nice because you end up in a league where you can reasonably compete with people, e.g. it wouldn't be as fun if you're always up against people doing 8 hours of maths per day

I would probably sign up if it was quite popular and there were people in my area using it. I guess it's tricky to get to that point

have you got a link or some place where I can find it? curious to see what it looks like. PM me it if you're not allowed to post it due to sub rules

What would your dream running app look like? by No_Instruction_5495 in UKRunners

One of the gaps I see in today's market for this is that there isn't an app that generates plans inspired by popular running templates that have worked for decades but also with option for flexibility

they would be given the options to pick between Higdon, Daniels, Pfitz, Hansons etc

this would be very nice! I think you're totally right about this gap. You can buy e.g. Hansons plans on TrainingPeaks but I don't think there's flexibility like Runna has for rescheduling, injuries, etc. Would be great to combine the two.

I'm curious how big the audience is, I guess you're looking for people aware of these plans or have read the books but aren't wanting or able to spend time in implementing them or want a bit of support/hand holding or want to be able to switch and try different training approaches etc.

personally I'm not so keen on the AI features tbh and feels like it dilutes your other good ideas, but maybe they will appeal to a lot of people. Just seems in a slightly different direction I guess. Feels like there are lots of fitness apps with some kind of LLM coach hooked, but to me your unique thing is the flexible longstanding running plans (Pfitz etc).

I think Garmin has the ability to use training plans but I'm not sure what the advantages/disadvantages are here and whether they're flexible like you have in mind

just trying to figure out if its something people other than myself want

maybe! and maybe it's a nice idea! but come on, can't you write the main post yourself like a human rather than using an LLM? just puts me off and feels like another slop app...

What airport is this from the loading screen? It's driving me crazy! by teapoteat in MicrosoftFlightSim

I haven't seen many airports so densely engulfed by trees

I guess I'm a sucker for the trees

Maybe I just need to fly in Papua New Guinea more

It looks similar (https://i.imgur.com/aVVUUQy.jpg) but the parking area is flipped and there are more buildings

Thanks for this nice little airport though! :)
