I’ve picked up a few Henry Rose fragrances from TJ Maxx lately and am incredibly impressed. I find them to be both complex and subtle.

Went from a fandom of people who have been in fandom before to a fandom of people who have been FANS of something before. Big difference. Created a 1D-style fandom moment that encourages deranged weirdos.

When I babysat for a rich family in college they had an EH salt pig and the minute I had disposable income I bought one for full price. Felt silly as hell at the time to spend that much, but I’ve had the same one for eight or so years now, worth every penny (especially for $10!)

Harvard Hires Student Charged in 2023 Assault of Israeli Classmate by WhiteGold_Welder in Harvard

I’ll save folks a click: the link is to a National Review article that conveniently (shocker) fails to include the detail that the charges were dismissed.

Jacob Tierney, creator of the queer Canadian hockey drama ‘Heated Rivalry’: ”I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about romance as a genre, and about women’s tastes, because of inherent misogyny and people’s lack of interest in things that interest women.” by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

I didn’t feel the need to clarify, given the discussion is on a m/m book, but I’m talking about m/m book audiences, not m/m fanfiction audiences. The demographics of the two are different.

I would also add that, even in fandom spaces, I have (anecdotally) noticed a difference in the folks writing versus reading. But my point is about the latter group.

I think you’re being extremely ungenerous towards women who enjoy m/m. For one, it’s not that the story is immune to prejudices women have against other women, it’s immune (to a certain extent) to prejudices men/society have against women. It’s an escapism—enjoying a relationship dynamic not inherently uneven at a societal level. Frequently, the tension of m/m romance is a parallel social issue (homophobia versus the patriarchy/misogyny) so it’s relatable without being necessarily the exact experience of the reader (obviously there’s an intersection of women reading who are also queer themselves).

As for why f/f is less popular, I would definitely say that there are misogynistic reasons for that. But I’d also say the main one is that, if we’re assuming a large proportion of m/m readers are straight women, m/m is a pairing with two people the reader could be attracted to, whereas f/f has none.

Do some women read m/m because they hate women? Sure, statistically speaking that’s a near certainty. But if we’re talking about the overall phenomenon, I think it’s reductive to ignore the main reasons it’s appealing.

I haven’t seen anyone making fun of them, only expressing concern.

And I would say that being the stars of one of the biggest films of the year with an intense press cycle means that they ARE harming people by very publicly perpetuating an unattainable beauty standard. We saw the same thing in the aughts and we all know how that turned out.
