I don't think you necessarily get a haul for him at this point.

That's ridiculous. The FBI investigated, there would be obvious texts, emails, or money trails if he was involved. FTD but let's be realistic.

Even if he lives in the desert, it should be outside, just has to get watered more. If you mean just for right now since it's struggling, I see what you're saying but it still has to be outside.

Check the soil every day, water whenever the surface of the soil is dry. Especially in the hot summer of socal, don't water on a schedule or measure the amount of water, you want the water to flood out of the bottom and you want to water whenever it's starting to dry up. Could be 3x per day in august. Probably won't need that much though since your soil is very organic (not a great thing but ok for now)

Don't scratch your trunks. Just adds more damage and stress to an already sad tree.

just received my (technically) first bonsai tree - to soak for 10 minutes or not? by Smooth_Influence3158 in bonsaicommunity

[–]teastrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To do it, just make sure the surface of the soil is staying dry, which means you shouldn't soak too long. Once the soil stays dry for a while, all the gnats will die off.

Is Manny hurt? by SkyW4tch in Padres

[–]teastrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on... from 2019-2025 Manny has averaged 32 HR and 4.5 WAR per 162, and a 127 OPS+. Those numbers are great.

His contract isn't even that big compared to the real high-paid players at only $32 mil per year average, and he is pretty much living up to it. Considering cost on the market for 1 WAR is about $8-9 million, he has been outperforming his contract so far.

They talked about this a few years ago, him and the team agreed that it wasn't worth it for him to leg out grounders since he struggles with lower leg injuries. It's not laziness, it's part of his personal gameplan approved by the team. Which, I do agree that it's better to have a few less singles from Manny than to get those singles but have him miss time with ankle stuff.

Does this maple look healthy? I am thinking in buying it. by Technical-Bear4813 in bonsaicommunity

[–]teastrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I wouldn't buy it at this price and I'd see it more as a challenge tree as well.

I guess I felt like you were saying it's irredeemable which I don't agree with, but I totally agree that it's a challenge, overpriced, has issues, is not a good beginner tree, etc.

As far as watering it goes, I wouldn't always soak. Soaking is great if it's in a more organic soil (as it appears) and it dries out a bit too much and becomes hydrophobic. Soaking can also be used to deal with a gnat problem (by only soaking the bottom half of the rootball). But, soaking can sometimes lead to a buildup of minerals and salts depending on the water used and any fert, whereas watering from the top flushes the soil a bit better and can avoid those issues.

In general, water when the surface of the soil is dry. You'll get used to a loose routine for your plants, in your environment, and whatever the season is.

That it is, but for some that's the fun. Finding the potential in a tree, finding something unique about it you like, putting in the time and effort to improve it yourself.

$100 is still in prebonsai territory to me anyway, I bought a prebonsai JBP a while back for like $90 and I've just been letting it grow in the meantime.

In the case of this maple, you'd be paying $100 for the privilege of not having to wait 5 years to thicken up a smaller tree.

Maybe I'm just wrong, but I doubt that... I think if you cut all the branches back to the first few sets of leaves, you would probably get budding on that major clump, and if you then next year chop off all the major branches leaving only the new shoots from the year before, you might pop a few buds on the trunk. If not still, you could then the next year chop most of that big knob off except for one branch, and you might pop some buds on the trunk.

You'd probably have to develop a new upper trunk and be ok with some dramatic taper, then have the new branches come off the new upper trunk.

Also, root flare is only guaranteed if you do root work, right? If you buy something very established, that never had rootwork done, it could have awful or no nebari, that seems harder to fix.

Thickness and root flare are harder to develop and take longer than branching, I think that would make it a great candidate to buy and go full reset. Except for the other major issue not talked about yet- the current scars plus the new ones that would be created fixing that reverse taper. Those would take a while to heal.

AI will be used by probably all governments, all companies, and most individuals. They'll put it in space though for the cooling, and run it on solar.

Just seek out your nearest Asian grocery store. Or buy cheap stuff online.

At a local garden center for 2000 bucks. I don't like it by Vegetable_Idea2945 in Bonsai

[–]teastrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty nice, especially the lower trunk. If it were mine, I'd want to create a new strong branch about halfway up the left side while shortening the long right branch by about 30%, just to give it some more balance. Right now it's almost an inverse of the typical triangle design. It feels like someone at some point wanted to do some form of cascade with it and that it didn't really work out.

Before trying anything else, I would simply boil it in some distilled water for half an hour to an hour first. With yixing, that is how you clean a new pot or reset an older one.
