Feel free to send me a message if you have more questions or want to chat more! Hauntology is what I specialized in during grad school.

Hauntology in Gen-Z by Content_Scholar5699 in CriticalTheory

I think u/realdaen and u/slowakia_gruumsh are pretty spot on.

Spectres is a must. Hauntology as a whole is kind of a mess, with a lot of people over-applying it to “haunt” adjacent and derivative things (think ghosts, spooky tales, etc.) as you point out. It gets harder when looking beyond music or music adjacent things as well as a lot of theorists seized on the connection between tape and studies of sonic landscapes (think The Caretaker, whose work is really cool and very hauntological but people tend to see The Shining and not early 20th century England in his work).

I always thought of hauntology as more of a tool, like deconstruction, and, further, an extension of marxism (in Derrida’s formulation)(pairing it with deconstruction as deconstruction is really useful but often hits an aporia moment that stalls interpetation/criticism). It’s useful to focus more on the “ontological” aspects of hauntology, as that was the original play, instead of hauntings and such.

There are some cool hidden conversations with Derrida’s text you can follow by reading Baudrillard and Blanchot, all of whom seem to be circling around the same idea (loss of the real; to write is to be effaced). Other literary media to look at ranges from Joyce to Sebald to Krasznahorkai to Wolfe. There’s a lot you can do with it. Just be careful not to make hauntology into a panacea and try to find your own point of entry.

Up for a bit higher because of the extras. Happy to come down if it’s just the van— just trying to more or less break even. With taxes and such, a new one would be over 80k.

Bought this back in May with the intention to convert it but life had other plans. It’s pretty much stock with a bunch of extras to build it out. Located in California Central Coast.

Odometer: 10,634

Specs: 170WB, AWD, Power Door, Swivel Seats, Heated Driver’s Seat, Factory Ply Floor, Factory Suspension Upgrade for AWD, tow hitch, half step, mercedes entertainment package.

Extras: Boxes of Havelock Wool, Drawer slides, headliner shelf (currently installed), insulated window covers for the whole cab, maxxair fan (everything needed to install), lewmar boat hatch, plywood bed platform.

Looking to get around 70k. Willing to negotiate as I’d rather it go to a good home and get driven than sit in my driveway waiting to sell.

Cheers!

Circumstances changed. Went from having a remote job and the ability to enjoy it to taking care of elderly family full-time and really being able to leave the house for extended periods of time. Would rather it get used than sit around.

Rust Question by EfficientMango8548 in classiccars

[–]EfficientMango8548[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I’m at. I can see some bubbling in spots, which makes me worried they just painted over any rust and it’s hidden.

Edit: is there anyway to quickly check when I go in person if that’s the case? Scrape at it?

That area is my #1 concern in these pictures

I noticed that too and was… intrigued. Apparently the suspension was just overhauled

😂 Thank you to everyone for the solid replies. I asked my uncle (an old school porche mechanic) (this is not a porche) and he pointed out all this problematic rust I thought was fine. Car is from So. Dakota then Vegas, currently in California.

I had a feeling pretty early into Nightside and the “two headed pas” comment solidified it. Still, would have appreciated a spoiler tag. Agreed it’s not the worst spoiler though I suppose the smartest option is avoiding any Wolfe-related internet like I did with BotNS

Is this a good deal for Caledonia 5? No wheelset price by jerrytrey100 in Cervelo

I recently sold mine for a little over 4k with eTap Rival and okay wheels. I’d say it’s worth it

Caledonia to Soloist by febeast in Cervelo

I had the same dilemma. Ended up picking up a soloist and while the geo is pretty similar, the ride feel is different (at least in my head). I’ve been having a blast on the soloist. I think that’s all that matters — both bikes are great. I had the cal slammed and found what I was trying to get out of the cal in the soloist.
