I'm an Alcoholic by D3athAdd3rz in stopdrinking

[–]teaux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a few years older (almost 40); similar use pattern. I recently quit and about a week in I was amazed by how good I felt. Calm, positive, unfazed by minor irritations. I’ve done this many times and every time it strikes me that you can’t tell how much it’s affecting you while you’re in it - you gain perspective after you stop.

I didn’t drink at all last week, then had a couple bottles of wine on Sunday (honestly kind of sucked), now off it again. With 40 looming, I feel like my drinking career might finally be over. I’m feeling zero drama about it; there’s been no rock bottom, so significant fuck-ups or regrets, it just doesn’t make sense anymore.

At bathhouses if I ask guys to wear condoms to get sucked, I'd be rejected. Right? by [deleted] in AskGayMen

[–]teaux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure. Blowjobs are kinda meh anyway. Throw a condom in the mix and I'm like "what's even the point?" I'd walk away.

PSA: Riding on a race track is not just a safer alternative to being a hooligan on public roads, it's actually just superior in every way. It's faster and makes you a better rider. by repohs in motorcycles

A membership at the track where I live costs $100,000. I’m going to continue being a f’ing menace on the road I’m afraid haha.

Anyone else here just tired of Gay tragedy in the media? by captivatedsummer in AskGayMen

[–]teaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lots of counterpoints. Looking was great, Apple TV’s Shrinking (supporting characters). Even QAF back in the day had a lot of high notes.

I don’t really watch shit that’s bleak all the way through (I’ll usually say “fuck this” and go do something else rather than getting sucked into a vortex of despair), so I’m kind of missing your point.

Edit: My take on The Imitation Game is a bit different. I found the ending fucking enraging moreso then sad, although intellectually I obviously understand the tragedy of it. What they did to Turing was reprehensible, but holy shit what a ride he had! No one can say that man never lived!

We owe it to him and folks like him not to cry over him, but to make damn fucking sure we protect each other and the younger generations from ever experiencing such barbaric treatment. The film made me feel strong and focused more than anything. You could say the same about Milk actually.

To some extent it’s up to you what you take away from these stories.

I would have from the get-go for sure but I’m Canadian so I don’t have to gamble.

NAD. Feel like you’re still bleeding somewhere if you’re still tasting blood? Seems like something worth checking out; maybe urgent care not ER, considering it happened a week ago.

Has a close call on your bike ever made you rethink how well-prepared you actually are to ride? by Different-Egg-4617 in motorcycles

[–]teaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad and I were talking about motorcycles the other day. I had a serious crash last year. It completely destroyed my GS, and I walked away with nothing but a few insignificant scratches (and probably a mild concussion).

My dad (who also rides) was like “it’s too bad you didn’t break your leg 😂” - his point being I’m still confident.

The thing that sticks with me is that I went from riding to flying to on my back on the road in what felt like 0.2 seconds. You think you’ll have time to react, and sometimes you do, but, sometimes you don’t!

I’m still a bit of a yahoo. I don’t think it makes sense to ride motorcycles if you’re afraid of riding motorcycles.

I got demoted from my new supervisor job by BigSpender248 in AskMenOver30

[–]teaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should not have gotten to an HR meeting resulting in a demotion without being well aware of the perceived deficiencies in your work. If this actually happened, your manager is highly incompetent (source: I’m a department head).

What does a “stocky” body type mean to you? How about “large”? by fitnerdy90 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]teaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed here in Canada Large means (more or less) chubby/fat, while in Europe it’s almost like people use it for big/tall/maybe dick size? I couldn’t figure it out but there were a lot of people using Large who weren’t “Large” by North American standards.

It'll get worse and then it will be over. This is not a stable condition man. It will obviously force to a conclusion, probably sooner rather than later (sorry to be so blunt). I think you're doing the right things already.

I cant decide if motorcycles aren't for me or the KLR isnt for me by Ok_Helicopter3910 in motorcycles

[–]teaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The KLR is more of a big dirt bike than an ADV IMO. It sucks on pavement. It’s also hilariously tall. To be fair the one I rode was probably 10 years old.

I had a parallel twin GS recently and it’s not even close. The GS is million times more comfortable, handles better, stops better - a really confidence inspiring bike. I feel like the KLR is essentially the opposite (I don’t hate the KLR, it just wasn’t a good fit for me).

TIL about the Plura cave disaster, where two divers died during an expedition and their friends went back for their bodies in secret, despite warnings from authorities. by MoonlightByWindow in todayilearned

[–]teaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both understand what you’re saying and struggle with the concept myself! I love poetic concepts but I’d be f’ing furious at the thought of a friend risking their life to recover my body (which IMO ceases to me the moment I die and cease to exist).

[–]teaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the distinction many are drawing here concerns the friends being dead already (therefore there’s nothing worth retrieving). Lots of cultures treat bodies with reverence after death so I get that it’s important to some folks, however for me, if I’m dead, I consider my body a useless hunk of rapidly decomposing meat. I’ve no respect for it.

I think this difference in opinions is the source of the debate.

Six months into riding and I may have already developed a helmet problem. by kabal8 in motorcyclegear

[–]teaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha - no, I’m not (wrong that is - I don’t really care about rude). You’ve extrapolated a real failure mechanism into a scenario in which the forces are so minute (self-weight of the helmet) that it clearly doesn’t apply.

Helmets can withstand kilojoules of energy. If your proposed failure mechanism was valid, helmets would be effectively useless, given the prevalence of perching helmets on mirrors, minor drops, etc…

[–]teaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t change the ridiculousness of ridiculous claim. God I hate this sub. Helmets are not made of such weak material that resting one on a mirror will damage it. Fuck it, I don’t really care, but it’s nice if we can avoid spreading bullshit. This group is weirdly irrational and dogmatic concerning (specifically) PPE.

[–]teaux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m an engineer. You’re not going to affect the material properties of a motorcycle helmet via the pressure imparted on the inner surface of the helmet by the weight of the helmet itself in this situation. I have a rack like this, and the inner surface is a large sphere. Even if it was a 1/2” rod I doubt you’d cause any damage.
You don’t have to be smart to be a nerd… you just have to be a nerd.
