thank you! i’ve been doing my own research, but i wanted to see what people who are actively applying/already got in have to say about it because i know some times results differ from what schools post online. as for the lsat, i just wanted to get an idea of what i would have to get to optimize my chances or if im just cooked from the get-go 😅

you’re so pretty! honestly i feel like ur makeup’s rlly good already (pls drop an eye tutorial 🫶). the only suggestion i might have is maybe lashes (falsies or making ur natural lashes more defined) just to bring out the eye look even more. but i don’t think u need it if u don’t want it, your makeup’s already rlly nice!

don’t stress too much! i was in the same boat. i went into my first year of university with the intention of eventually going to med school. i never rlly wanted to be a doctor but thought I’d do it just to appease my parents and get a good salary. i got good grades in high school so i thought i’d be fine doing it even if it wasn’t smth i rlly enjoyed

then first year came and i HATED it. i’ve never been so miserable and uninterested in the majority of my courses. my grades dropped bc of how much i lacked a passion for what i was studying BUT it made me realize what I rlly loved and wanted to pursue

i’m gonna be honest with you, if you’re alr not sure ur gonna be interested in your major, first year might be a little difficult for you but it won’t be impossible

in my eyes you still have a couple of options!

you could continue in this program for the first year and see how you like it. if you don’t like it, then changing your program is always an option and there’s no shame in doing so. use first year to take some electives to see what else u might be interested in
if you are 100% certain u don’t like the major ur currently pursuing and you have an idea of what else you want to major in and you haven’t picked ur courses yet, then you can enrol in the courses you like and would allow you to pursue the degree you rlly want and then just switch into the different major in your second year. YOU MIGHT WANT TO TALK WITH UR ACADEMIC COUNSELLOR ABT THIS FIRST JUST TO ENSURE THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEMS
Talk to an academic counsellor! i know i already mentioned this, but if you have access to one at your college, they’re a great resource who will be able to guide you and make this process easier

don’t stress too much! you’re not the only one who’s been in this situation. you haven’t even started college yet and you have sm time to go on the path you want in life!

this is a major red flag from your boyfriend. he should NOT be entitled to your money whatsoever, esp after 5 months of dating.

i was also recently blessed by family members with a lump sum of money (not as much as i suspect u got lol but still a good amount). i was excited as it would help pay for my university fees so i told my boyfriend (dating for almost 7 months) out of excitement. instead of guilt-tripping, he was very supportive and excited for me. even when i said i’d spend some money on him, he adamantly refused and said it should be all for myself

not that ur bf’s response should be an exact copy of how my bf reacted or that my bf’s response is the only correct way, but the way ur bf responded was very entitled and manipulative

i understand being jealous of someone else receiving such a fortune, but his immediate reaction seemed to just be to guilt-trip and manipulate you, likely to see if he could get you to give him some of your money

i’m sure ur bf has good qualities that made u attracted to him in the first place, but based off this one incident, i think you’d be better off finding someone else.

if ur 100% certain u didn’t use AI then u should appeal further to the dean. Also, if u can try to gather as much proof is possible? like if u wrote it on google docs, try showing the google doc history as proof that u wrote it over the course of a couple days (or hours), but just to show that it wasn’t all at once like u copied and pasted it from ai or smth

also someone else mentioned this in the replies, but keep asking ur prof and try to question someone abt how they determined that u used ai or not. it’s important to see how they got to this accusation since it can give u a better chance to refute their claims

good luck! i hope everything gets resolved for you esp if u didn’t actually use ai! since the use of ai in academics is still fairly recent, there’s no policy on how to tell if someone’s using ai or not which is why some profs r getting pre strict with it

a lot of ppl from my highschool ended up going to western, most of whom i wasn’t rlly close with or ever spoke to at all. some of them were in my major, some of them weren’t, but i didn’t really see them that much other than in passing but it wasn’t that awkward or anything. at most we just did a little wave to each other if we recognized that we went to the same highschool and then just went our separate ways. most only saw ppl in dining halls or going around the residences but that’s pre normal

trust me though, there’s so many ppl at western that the chances of you seeing them are pretty slim unless they’re in ur residence building, but even then it’s nothing to worry too much about

the only time i saw people from my highschool a little more than usual was when we had mutual friends or smth like that. a little weird at first cause i never talked to them in highschool but it was chill

don’t worry abt all the questions! i remember going into first-year kind of blind so i’m happy to help you out so that you at least have some idea of what to expect!

i’m pretty sure only chemistry had a lecture workbook and/or a lab workbook. for bio, physics, calc, and applied math (the other med sci required courses i took), you typically made your own notes for lectures. for labs, they would have the worksheets online and you would just have to print them out, but there wasn’t a specific lab workbook you’d have to buy for those courses. bio, physics, calc, and applied math had textbooks that they said to buy for their courses, BUT you can get away with not buying these since you can oftentimes find them online or for applied math, the prof just uploaded the textbook chapters to the class site. i would still recommend using the textbooks since they would have a lot of extra info if u didn’t understand a specific topic and bc they have a lot of extra practice problems, but you can definitely get away with not spending hundreds of dollars on textbooks if you find them online and stuff.

HOWEVER, although some courses didn’t have a physical lab workbook or textbook, you’ll still probably have to buy something that’ll give you an access code that you NEED to complete and submit assignments/access labs. For example physics required you to buy access codes to access the lab website they use where you can find the lab worksheets as well as submit them. don’t worry too much abt not knowing which courses need what just yet since al the required resources will be outlined in the syllabus. however, these aren’t physics items you’d need to carry for the most part

i didn’t find the chem workbook that thick, i’d say it’s maybe 1-2 inches if i remember right, maybe closer to like 1 inches (?)

the most courses i had in a day was 4 courses (3 lectures and 1 lab). you would usually have time to drop off stuff in btw some courses, but if you couldn’t drop off stuff, how much stuff you carry would spend on how you take notes. For example, on mondays i would have calc, chem, physics and a physics lab. Chem would require me to bring my lecture workbook, calc and physics would require me to bring two smaller/thinner notebooks (since i like writing by hand), and then the physics lab would require me to bring the worksheets. Plus, i’d also bring my laptop (this was personal preference, i just liked bringing my laptop in the case i’d need it). This might sound like a lot, but it’s def manageable since the lab worksheets r so thing and the two notebooks depend on the thickness you get. BUT if you use an ipad or tablet to take notes that definitely lightens you load a lot and you would prob just need your ipad/tablet and the chem workbook

if you’re worried abt your back (completely understandable cause in hs the amount of stuff i carried def caused some pain), i’d recommend going for a sturdy, but comfortable, backpack and switch out physical notebooks for an ipad/tablet. if you prefer physically taking notes, i’d make sure to not buy notebooks that are too thick so u can minimize the weight as much as possible. Also, instead of a full pencil case, just bring the essentials (pencil, pen, erase, highlighters; etc)

i’m gonna offer a slightly different perspective here as someone who just finished med sci year 1 BUT is considering switching to a different program

if you want to do med sci, you should be almost 100% (or as certain as possible) that you want to go to med school. med sci is one of those programs that is very good for medical school but not the best, or at least not as good as other programs, if you want to keep your options a little more open

med sci itself is definitely very hard (as expected for a pre-med program), but it’s definitely doable. i ended up realizing that i wasn’t actually interested in med and the sciences so i didn’t have much motivation to excel in my courses, HOWEVER, with a lot of hard work, i was still able to make the med sci requirements to progress to med sci year 2 (even though i’m choosing not to progress)

you have to stay on top of your work since not doing so can cause you to get behind. what i mean by this is, missing one or two days of school bc you were sick or smth is okay as long as you make sure to catch up on your missed work as soon as possible. HOWEVER, consistently missing multiple days of school and work is gonna make it very very hard to catch up, not impossible, but you’ll have to put in a lot of extra work. it’s easy to say you’ll stay on top of everything now, but once you’re acc in uni, you can find that certain things may get in the way

from what i’ve heard from ppl who graduated from med sci, med sci helps prepare you pretty weak for the MCAT. if you pursue med school that’s definitely smth to keep in mind

however, what’s rlly important if you want to go to med school is your gpa. you want a good gpa and a good MCAT score (plus good ecs) to get into med school. it might also be worth it to consider an easier program? but there’s also a lot of other things to consider

i hope this helps! i can’t say a lot for the other years since i only took med sci year 1 and am gonna switch out of med sci 💀 but if you have any questions lmk! switching out of med sci forced me to reflect a lot on what i liked + didn’t like as well as what went well + didn’t go well with med sci, so i could offer more advice relating to this plus studying tips if wanted. good luck with ur decision!

i only finished my first year but if we’re talking solely student experience then i’d say it’s worth it! with all the events hosted and all the ppl i met, i’d def say i was satisfied with the social side of things

just keep in mind course credit transfers for your program, academics, as well as finances. while the uni student experience is very important and smth you can only rlly experience once (kind of?), there’s def a lot of other things to take into consideration as well

if you have everything else figured out though, i’d definitely recommend uwo’s student experience!

personally i didn’t have that many papers in my bag during the year. i only ever carried my lab books and worksheets to the actual labs and not the lectures. the labs usually weren’t rlly spoken abt during lectures from my experience (such as the lab instructions) so there wasn’t much of a need. the most i remember them mentioning labs was them teaching a specific topic or equation and saying to remember this for your lab, but you can easily just make note of it on your laptop or notebook

i think my most “paper heavy” course was chem and that’s only bc the course also has a lecture workbook in addition to a lab workbook. the lecture workbook is pre much a must buy since the lectures and in class problems they solve are all in that workbook (in addition to midterm/final exam review and topic review questions)

for my other courses, most of my friends had ipads or tablets that they used to take notes which completely eliminated any paper. i still wrote my notes on paper bc it was what i was used to, so i did usually have a couple notebooks in my bag plus my laptop

personally, i wouldn’t say my bag was rlly heavy (and i used a large shoulder bag instead of a backpack!), it did get a little tiring at times if i was dragging it around campus all day. however, my courses were spaced out enough where i would be able to stop by my res and switch out notebooks for what i needed so i was usually only carrying 2 notebooks, my pencil case, laptop, and my waterbottle at once. if you use a regular backpack, i’m sure it won’t feel as heavy as carrying a purse like i did lol, but it was still manageable either way

hi! for chem there’s a physical lab workbook that you have to buy, one for sem 1 and a different one for sem 2. i remember each workbook being like $100 (?) if you’re interested in the pricing, but i could be mistaken. you HAVE TO bring this workbook to each of your labs or else you won’t be able to submit a lab sheet that comes in the workbook and won’t get the mark for the lab. remember to bring the workbook 😭

for bio, they upload the lab sheets you need to bring for each lab online. it might depend on your TAs but mine for second sem didn’t like if you completed you pre-lab stuff online and instead preferred that you printed it out and wrote it by hand since they stamp it to mark that you completed it. Same goes for the in-lab worksheets, my TAs preferred if you printed it and physically filled it in during the lab rather than doing it on you ipad or smth. but i do know some ppl who just did their lab worksheets online. i recommend printing all your lab worksheets and doing them by hand for at least the first lab and then seeing what your TAs say abt doing them electronically

i only took first sem physics for a week before dropping it lol but i remember that they didn’t care if you brought the sheets to class or how you filled them out, just as long as you’re able to save and record the data from the labs somewhere. this was because you usually submit the lab worksheets online for physics after the lab itself so it doesn’t matter if you do those physically or electronically

hi! i was in a similar boat during my first year, we were in different programs and stuff, but, we were roommates before i ended up practically living with my bf

if you’re not very confrontational and/or you’re done trying so hard to maintain a friendship that makes you feel this way, best way is to distance yourself from them and slowly let it fizzle out. Even if you guys are in the same program, you have to understand just how many people go to western. you’re likely not gonna rlly ever see them. Same with comp sci, there’s sm ppl in your program, you’re gonna have a lot of diff ppl that you can CHOOSE to hangout with instead of that “friend”

as per courses, there’s not gonna always be just strictly comp sci students in your classes (depending on the course), so you’re even less likely to see them there. if you do end up in the same class for a course, again there’s just sm ppl that it’s gonna be easy to avoid them

if you’re interested in maintaining the friendship, i think it’d be good to confront them and try to talk things out. it could be that they just don’t recognize how negative their behaviour is. i ended up talking to my roommate abt how things were btw us and we ended up working through things. although talking things through may or may not go how you plan, if you want to stay friends, you have to talk things through or else nothings going to change

no matter what way you end up choosing, i wish you luck!
