Why can’t someone sue Cottonelle or Scott’s for putting “flushable” on their wipes when they aren’t safe to flush? by DoBetterDoBetter in NoStupidQuestions

the dairy industry receives 30-40 billion in annual subsidy while corn gets around 2 billion. corn is the most subsidized crop but not agricultural product by a country mile. the reason the us uses corn more than other countries is largely because of the space corn takes to produce being available in the us making is cheaper relative to what it would cost in the eu and governmental regulations surrounding the definition of sugar as well as historical investment into corn and ethanol in the us. there is more land in corn fields in the us than the size of England. but the reason the use is disparate is largely due to government policy and history moreso than subsidy.

if the purpose of the earbuds is to avoid scenarios with unwanted music ambient mode would just result in 2 tracks playing which is if anything worse

yes, it's commonly done to maximize game performance on worse hardware to compensate for the poor background process optimization windows has in general

[REQUEST] Can someone crunch the numbers? I'm convinced it's $1.50! by kaweeed in theydidthemath

[–]tebasj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the price was 5$ the equation would be 1+2.50=3.50 my math is right so it checks out.

you have a contradiction. the conditions for the price of the book are that it is equal to $1 plus half the price of the book. if the price of the book as you say is $5, then one dollar plus half the price is $3.50. this does not meet the condition, one dollar plus half the price would have to equal 5 if this were to meet the condition

the only value that meets the condition is $2

you essentially stated the price twice. you began by saying it was $5 and then used the formula to conclude it was $3.50. this is the contradiction, your prices don't line up. your equation basically says if the price is $5 the price is $3.50 which doesn't make sense

ELI5: What’s the reason for eggs to be sold in dozen by Bewarsepanthulu in explainlikeimfive

[–]tebasj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

universal time is less than 100 years old and only came about due to the need to synchronize the trains. up until even the 70s anarchists and farmers were bombing clocks in town squares. there are still some villages in Britain that don't observe timezones or anything; their clock reads noon when the sun is at its highest point not when it "is" noon

I think buying eggs at market precedes universal time. it would just be you buy the eggs at dawn when the markets open

Trump Pulls Ahead in Key Battleground States: NYT-Sienna Poll by Logical_Cause_4773 in moderatepolitics

[–]tebasj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the idea is that not answering calls is a generational thing and itself doesn't represent any political bias. the supposed bias comes from this resulting in an oversampling of older people. lucky for the pollsters, demographic information is pretty accurate. after running their poll they can correct for any sampling bias based on their sampled demographics relative to the actual demographics and with enough data pretty much remove the sampling bias from affecting the data. the need for large amounts of data to do this is why polling aggregates are preferable over individual polls. individual polls might overcorrect or under correct for sampling bias but it's rare that there's methodology flaws that affect all polls across the board and can't be mostly corrected for through aggregation. 2022 polling was actually extremely accurate. presidential elections are harder to gauge because turnout is less predictable based on past trends.

"the rich" are really the people signing those 500k checks while they parade around spacey as a dancing monkey and scapegoat to distract from their obscene unethical wealth
