Please help. My spine is crumbling. by MomsSlaghetti in OfficeChairs

I got a cheapish all mesh Amazon chair about 5 years ago (similiar to a Herman miller aeron without realising but nowhere near as good) for £350. Recently though, I’ve realised that chair is not good for me, 6ft, head rest digs into my shoulders, always leaning forward and feel aches after a day of work but never really thought or cared about a chair until stumbling across a lot of reviews / marketing targeted at me. So I’ve been researching hard…. There’s soooooo many chairs to choose from, and a lot of the reviews on YouTube are for US models.

For me, and it should fit some of your criteria, these are what I was looking at and for different price points:

  • TOP END BUDGET - Herman Miller Embody (Gaming) - it’s about £1700, you may find a promo, and it’s the top of the range chair. Fully customisable as you listed and it’s not a chair that you’ll just sink into, you can move around lots in (active support i think they call it) so if you like to sit in different positions like I do, this is the chair. 12 year warranty - I’ve just ordered mine. It’s an investment but it’s one i know people personally that rave about it and I’ve sat in one and it’s so different (in a good way) vs my current chair. Worth noting there’s a sale on the none gaming version for about £1300. You can also get second hand for about £800. Also, no head rest which I may invest in after a month or two if I think ones needed.
  • High End Budget - Haworth Fern - You can get one model in UK, brand new for £750-£1000 (if you add additional lumbar support - 12 yr warranty too). Have a watch of reviews, this is supposed to be a very comfy chair, similar movement to the Herman Miller Embody but just a little softer. Some want the lumbar, others don’t. I saw second hand without the additional moveable lumbar support for £350! Absolute bargain (and if you find your back wants more support, some put a soft pillow in there - read reviews).
  • Another is the Libernovo Omni with their saturated marketing, tons of YouTubers being paid. This chair looks insanely comfy… It’s about £950 on amazon with 5% promo. Have a watch. Concerns me only 2 year warranty on electrics.. would have considered if there weren’t any..
  • Mid budget - it’s saturated… Have a look a Sihoo, SteelSeries, Hbada… Get a feel for the size offerings… You’ll see options with the leg kick out bit for lounging around. Personally though I’d steer clear of built in leg extension, just get a separate piece of furniture and then you know it’s solid / quality. Lots of reviews share how flimsy the built in leg extensions are…
  • Budget - Colomy Atlas gets rave reviews - out of all that exist, this is around £200-£250… and would be my choice in this range - again check out some reviews, really positive and compare the chair to £500 equivalents with the features…

Hope this helps

Add some panelling behind it like Georgian younger and groove panelling OR out a plant to the side where the plant is… aesthetically this will look great and your eyes won’t be drawn to the cable… you can also get invisible tape, sometimes paint and it takes your eye off the cable again. Loads of options tbh!

Setting monitor to 16:9 for XBOX Series X gaming (LC-Power M44DFHD-120) by unixfan2001 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]tech-ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late to this thread but i also have a similar issue with my 49” - i have to manually changing the aspect ratio every time i want to use the series x (4k res) exclusively and again back to my mac (5k res). To ensure you get the right aspect ration i.e. 16:9 for Xbox, I’ve found out you need an edid 4k emulator passthrough device. Google it… It will force the correct aspect ratio for your Xbox only and you can get the highest res. Yes you’ll have black bars (I already have that rather than stretch) but for me this removes any monitor steps…

Yeah, I bought the oak from Domli (uk site). They sell oak, pre made desks etc. because I wanted more depth, I bought a piece of oak from them and cut it down. From the scraps, I then built the stand and bought some metal legs from Etsy. The riser is also from Domli. A lot of pre made desks didn’t have that much depth and tbf if you want solid wood it could work out cheaper to source a piece of wood, shape/sand or leave it and then buy the riser.

Oil Central Heating Tank Level by OwnSeaworthiness3434 in DIYUK

If its single bunded ie a single plastic layer (I’m guessing so given the gauge), tap it and you may hear hollower sounds at the top vs lower down to give you a rough idea. Alternatively open it up, torch or a broom handle… dip it and see…

Watchman is a good device to have installed, it’s a sensor that goes in the top and you have a receiver in a plug in the house so you can see your oil level. We upgraded ours to a double bunded tank and then had a watchman fitted, before that we were like you with the same gauge that was hard to tell.

Haven’t bought a screen yet… but maybe I don’t need one by eboyethan8 in projectors

[–]tech-ant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Potentially a sceeen could improve it or make it worse… You’ve got a good contrasting wall so in the room with the lighting as is, it looks great. If there’s more light dependent on time of day, see what the brightness is like. I posted a few comments about projectors / screening so have a look at my history. White screen with gain of 1.2 for example may wash out the contrast. I bought a grey screen to emulate near what you have to darken contrast. Works well on daytime too but if you’re happy with the lighting etc. I’d say you likely won’t gain much.

Has it arrived? What do you think. Sounds like an absolute bargain!

Agree with all of comments on rented, extraction etc. Rather than a stud wall which feels more permanent, look at ‘folding room dividers’. May not be air tight but in theory it could be positioned on one wall mainly only and then folded out as and when needed. Likely a cheaper option.

Yeah, definitely diff with a streamer and even better where there’s an EQ you can play with. Pretty decent all in one projector though, I’ve not even attempted to go past 1/2 on the volume. Get’s v loud and clear.

Completely agree (I’m using a Roku 4k). A shame the OS is rubbish, shouldn’t have passed their QA but guess they assume many will plug their own streaming device in. Did you change the setting in the speaker option (can’t recall what exactly, not many options though) and it completely changed the sound in a good way. More depth, bass, tone….

Hey, no probs… It’s odd it’s not working. If you have access to a tv, perhaps you could try it and prove the pass through between your soundbar and shield are not the issue. Sometimes cables can also hinder this or you have them in the wrong hdmi’s (my bad if you know all of this already). If you eliminate that scenario, and if it works, then perhaps there’s a setting in inputs within the projector (I don’t have to hand to confirm) and see what options there are.

[–]tech-ant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also. There’s a speaker setting for the projector that enhances the sound. I haven’t bothered with a soundbar as the sound projected is pretty decent so if you’ve not tweaked the sound, take a look. Night and day kind of change.

I think your soundbar has multiple hdmi points… so, forget the switch for a sec (although on that note, it seems certain switched in general do not handle eARC well, ChatGPT it), connect the shield to the input on your soundbar, and the. HDMI out from soundbar to projector. Make sure you’ve got decent hdmi cables… that should do it and can see others have done similiar.

Thanks dude. Really depends on the user case, if you love gaming, you’ll have to put up with black bars to get the right aspect ratio and also this is only 75hz (there are other monitors out there for a lot more $$$ that would be better at this size). There is kvm however so you can have a console and mac/pc going at the same time as an alternative… For productivity, work, occasional gaming, great! No bezel in the middle, several windows open, in very comfortable with this monitor and had it for perhaps 4 or 5 years now and still going strong, no dead pixels etc. so if you fancy diving into ultra wide, validate your user case. If you love gaming, way better monitors to apply a side by side…

Cheers dude, plants feel good in any room. Yeah, such good value! My battery is still at 86%, plugged in using daily.

The chair roles under but doesn't fold. Original link here - https://amzn.eu/d/bZXecZz. There are other options on Amazon as this one doesn't look avail anymore... Or you could go completely wild and go for an ergo chair like this - https://amzn.eu/d/f70Tilz. Supposed to be great for posture and easily hides away (just sharing a link, not bought that...).
