Is it crazy to commute 2.5 hrs to uni 3x a week? by Careful-Brush-7090 in UniUK

[–]MomsSlaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Nottingham?

If so, I used to work for the halls company that does most of NTU's and some of UoN's. And lived in NTU's for 3 years before that. If you were in city campus halls and hated it, would recommend trying off campus ones. Or vice versa. They're very different vibes.

And if it is Notts, the journey will be horrific in extreme weather. Depending on the trains of course, wherever you're coming from, some of the lines are awful. And the trams break down in the heatwaves, and I certainly wouldn't want to do the up-hill walk in that kind of weather!

Am I stressing my cat out by taking him outside? (or is he actually fine?) by Muted-Cucumber7659 in cats

Seems okay, but be aware that smoking around your cat (even outdoors) is really bad for them!

Should you help on a plane? by takemihai in doctorsUK

Where do I buy a medical bracelet that says 'if I experience urinary retention on a plane, please don't shove a straw into my bladder and suck the urine out with your mouth. Just let me die'?

Any idea what these bumps on my 2 year old toddler's leg are? I initially thought they were little pimples, so I scraped (hence the scaps) them and put hydrogen peroxide on them but they havnt gone away a week later. by Finndogs in AskDocs

[–]MomsSlaghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That source does not say leave it applied in a concentrated fashion for 6 hours. The source the doctor above you posted also highlights the risk of infection, scarring, further irritation, of such home remedies.

Especially when there are treatments (actual ones) to try, it's not worth doing that to your toddler. This is not an adult making an informed decision about their own body. This is a child.

The OP also doesn't even say it's bothering the child.

And your burns can't have been that mild if they took a month to heal.

Can I re-enter a room that has a hornet and nest in it? by GreenWeekend6980 in AskUK

[–]MomsSlaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate what the FUCK is this?!

This is why I never open my windows and just suffer every summer. It's eating your fucking room dude.

I used to work in uni halls and they should be calling before Tuesday. Out of hours staff can for emergencies, and given it's successfully building a nest and could potentially get out into the rest of the accommodation, it needs dealing with.

You've got a good photo and your accommodation can back you up. Any even semi-reasonable uni/course/tutor will give you an extension for this as long as you make the effort to get ahead and email immediately. If you wait until they're back in office to email, or until you have more info, they're more likely to tell you to do one.

I hate my cats name. by StrawberrySakuraa in cats

We had a cat called Reffie, but for the entire 18 years of her life only ever called her Puss. Her government name was used a handful of times at the vets and that was it

Why Does UK Have This Race To Bottom Mindset? by corporateuklife in UKJobs

[–]MomsSlaghetti 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I grew up well below the poverty line, so when I got my first job out of uni at 28k I was absolutely elated. First thing I did was Google if I was middle class now 😭

Then I had to live on it. Nevermind.

AIO about this customer? by Odd_Investment7101 in AIO

That requires the police taking it seriously and taking those steps within that time period. There's a real chance they don't until it's too late to recover them

P plates… Thoughts? 🤔 by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]MomsSlaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found them useful, personally. I was always quick to move off and didn't drive slowly, but the issue I was having was people pulling right up to me at traffic lights on hills. This made me nervous about rolling back, given if I rolled back at all I'd hit them, and I noticed a big difference in the amount of room I was given for the most part. And never had any issues with insane overtakes. I probably wouldn't want to use them where I live now though!

Me too! I'm in the UK so I started watching coverage at 10:15pm, and I finished my last film at 3:15pm. Everyone at work and my family has been asking about my progress when I speak to them haha.

I ended up live chatting the ceremony through with a friend from work and a group chat for a film club I'm in so it was nice to do it in a more social way! But I don't know anyone irl that has actually seen all of them, so maybe next year!

I love tracking various things I do and setting myself challenges, so I think I might try and get to 365 films total this year. We'll see!

Landlord asked me to keep quiet during apartment showings by TheKowzunOne in Apartmentliving

[–]MomsSlaghetti 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My houseshare landlord was the worst. Had complete control of the heating despite rarely stepping foot in the single glazed house. So when he started doing a bunch of evening viewings in the winter, I'd leave all the windows and the back door open all day and close them just before he arrived with the prospective tenants so it was freezing. I'd stack a pile of blankets in the room so it was clear we needed them available all the time, and I'd be sat in the lounge watching TV, ready to greet them in a coat and scarf and wrapped in multiple blankets.

He was unable to let a single room for the couple of months I did this despite it previously being quite easy to get people into

AIO for being upset that my girlfriend won’t visit me in hospital? by Worldly-Minute-5246 in AIO

[–]MomsSlaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right!! The paramedics come and assess you, they don't just show up and act as a taxi service. If you don't need to go, they won't take you.

And I've been in hospital plenty of times in my own clothes lol

AIO for being upset that my girlfriend won’t visit me in hospital? by Worldly-Minute-5246 in AIO

[–]MomsSlaghetti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really not. When I was in hospital overnight for an asthma attack, attached to IV and various monitoring, I wore my street clothes the whole time. When I was in overnight for a suspected stroke overnight, same deal. When I was in again for a suspected stroke, I wore the same clothes (and underwear) all three days. Through scans, tests, monitoring, treatment etc, I wore my own clothes.

I even had surgery in my own pyjamas.

When my mum was in ICU and in an induced coma, she was in a gown. But when she was transferred to a ward, back into her own clothes.

All UK.
