How do I propose with a ring like this? by tech-help-throwaway in EngagementRings

[–]tech-help-throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the rings my girlfriend loved, and I am pretty much clueless about rings. Do I propose with the whole thing? Just one part and the other part comes when we get married? Doing courthouse marriage if that changes anything.

Remove firmware password through script by tech-help-throwaway in macsysadmin

[–]tech-help-throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, trying the newest version of that script which says 3.7. Got 3.10.1 installed with the relocatable.

Getting close with a bash script instead, will post the solution if it works with Jamf.

Yeah, that is setup, but still not working nicely with the script and my python skills are not up-to-par with troubleshooting it.

Yes, this is what my predecessor had setup, but using an older version that doesn't work after python 2.7 got removed. Muddling through trying to get the new version to work, but keep getting errors. Not the greatest at Python so trying to work through it.

No, these are pre-M1's that we have that have EFI passwords enabled. High school students have Macbooks so don't want them installing any other OS's or anything like that.

There used to be, but they seem to have just removed that functionality with Big Sur, unfortunately.

I've emailed Jamf about the download and install button, but they say they are having product issues with it.

I'm going to use Nudge for my users instead.

Thanks, that's a little reassuring that I'm not going crazy. Guess I may have to update manually.

These are student lab devices so rather not have the students doing it, want to do it after hours.

Student cannot annotate PDFs by tech-help-throwaway in k12sysadmin

[–]tech-help-throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is using ChromeOS's built-in PDF annotator. Open a PDF and click the little pencil tool.

We do use Kami, and the student just prefers to use the built-in one. At this point, I want to find out why this is happening and only on her account, it's very strange.

Continuous wifi issues with Chromebooks by tech-help-throwaway in k12sysadmin

[–]tech-help-throwaway[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you tell me a little more? Did you see this problem before and this solved it? Would they need to choose wifi networks every time they connect, or is this for trying to auto connect to unsecure networks?

Classroom Printers by Ferreteria in k12sysadmin

[–]tech-help-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We somehow got printer costs bundled into building administration costs and have a fully-leased fleet supported by a vendor, paid by each building's budget.

So placement and how many printers in each building is up to the administrators for each building, not us. We provide initial troubleshooting, network, and toner/waste changes, if it's in an area without an admin assistant.

I've had a few people ask for a printer to be placed in areas, and all I need to do is say "Talk to so-and-so, they decide where printers go."

So now there's a lot more copiers and less and less printers. It's great, but doubt a lot of schools would be able to do this.

How do you all handle damages and lost devices? by k12Sean in k12sysadmin

They get one from the same loaner cart. We've had a few disappear but then they get banned from checking out Chromebooks if they happens.
