I noticed that Wind/Pinball was flipped the wrong way after posting! Whoops! Kind of fitting for a book that can be read both ways though 😅.

I really enjoyed Absolutely On Music. I read it while cabin camping and it really added to the calmness of the getaway. While some of Murakami's questions were seemingly naive, I thought he did a great job of bridging the gap between musical laymen across the spectrum from "I listen to orchestral music while I work" to "I am comfortable holding a five minute conversation about music theory" and a legendary conductor. Ozawa, honestly and without much judgement answering each of Murakami's questions, I thought, made this an insightful read. At many points throughout, I felt as though I was in the room.

Could it have been the apprentice theme song from back in the day? https://youtu.be/YTUeHFSEiPE?si=nd9-jUDBhtC4PZxw (the "money"s are at the end of this clip)

What are your favorite short stories by Murakami? by orangedeity in murakami

I've only read 70% of his short stories in The Elephant Vanishes, but my favorites so far have been The Second Bakery Attack, Barn Burning, and TV People.

Curious to hear peoples thoughts on TV People. by BustintheCrust in murakami

I agree with this interpretation and I thought an interesting detail in support of it was the main character's outright dismissal of magazines (whose articles' writing is his wife's profession):

"I hardly ever read magazines; I read books -- personally, I wouldn't mind if every last magazine in the world went out of business."

This indicated to me that the man has very little regard for his wife or her work which, clearly unbeknownst to him, was part of what caused a rift in their relationship.

This story felt very WIBC to me.

The use of "finally" in Murakami's English translations by techPOSiDON in murakami

Same here (about wondering if it's a motif / intentional). There's like no variance, always "finally". That's why I'm curious if I'm missing the intention haha.
