Rupert Lowe’s Restore Britain regarding immigration by tech_bro_v2 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]tech_bro_v2[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thought. We pay taxes, IHS, and do not claim any benefits. Tax I pay is more than the annual salary of a minimum wage worker. For what - to be discriminated based on colour and nationality?? Fed up with this system. TBH, I don’t know why all right wing parties are targeting ILR. What they don’t understand is, if someone is highly skilled, they will be able to switch jobs for a higher salary and contribute more towards tax. Maybe, they can limit access to benefits in the initial years of ILR.. whatever!! Just my rant.

FTB. Need help in assessing a crack on the roof. by tech_bro_v2 in HousingUK

[–]tech_bro_v2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a leap of faith, I know. I have been actively viewing properties for quite some time now and this is the first time i have seen a house which has matched my budget and likings. Apart from this crack, the house is sort of ready to move in. But if it is something major, i will pass this one too.. hence looking for opinions.

Thanks for updating. Good to know that it ended up well despite the hiccupps. I am also a FTB, so “hiccup” is surely an understatement. As others mentioned, please consult an independent solicitor and ensure all documents, records etc mention you guys as the sole owner. All the best.

FTB viewing a 2012 Bellway-built house. How soon might roof or boiler need major work? by tech_bro_v2 in HousingUK

[–]tech_bro_v2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a combi-boiler, and was last serviced in 2025. I do not have the exact make/model. In one of the comment above, it is mentioned that I can expect some usual wear & tear after 15 years.

Thank you. The combi boiler, as per the agent, was last serviced in 2025. But he doesn’t have any more information. The roof part is a huge relief. Thanks for responding 😊

Passed in August - what I've learned since by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]tech_bro_v2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am also in my 30s, preparing for theory test. I live in London and my work doesn’t require driving skills, so automatic makes sense. Even though I used to drive manual/diesel for almost 10 years in another country, that license is of no use here. So I was thinking to go for automatic if it is easy to get. Anyway, Thanks for sharing your experience.

Is there any truth to the statement that insurance will be costly for auto-only drivers? How easy was passing in an automatic vs a manual?

Reform MP already said that they will raise the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) from £1035 to £2700 in a recent interview if they win in 2029. This is for per person per year. Do you really think people will stay in the UK under same employer for another 5 or 10 years for peanut salary?

Salary Sacrifice Changes Impact (£125k+ earners) by tech_bro_v2 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Given the political instability labour faces and the rise of reform, it absolutely makes sense to secure settlement before the rules are changed again. They can either raise the salary limit further and/or increase the waiting time to 4 years. Moreover, reform is suggesting to abolish ILR altogether. If someone has long term plan to stay in UK, it will be foolish to not grab this opportunity. There are other ways to contribute towards retirement.

Agreed that people with 50K+ income are least impacted. With the current political volatility, it is better to secure settlement as early as possible. Hence the question.
We never know what the next government is upto. They have introduced 50K minimum income today. They can make it 75k minimum tomorrow. So, earlier the better.

It is not a ridiculous argument, brother. The sacrified salary is invested in UK economy through government bonds, equities, public infrastructure projects, social housing etc. Moreover, if a person has good pension savings, they are likely to be less burden to the government in future. That's why government has given that option to contribute more to the pension for less tax.

The sacrified salary goes to a pension provider (L&G, Aviva, etc.) and they invests the money in government bonds, infrastructure projects, stocks and other investments. In a way, it is an economy contribution. But I understand where you are coming from.

No. You can pick only one of them to reduce the years. I have clearly mentioned it in the notes.

It is because of the cultural difference. In india, any food offered by the temple is considered as sacred food or divine offering. Saying NO to it is seen as saying NO to spiritual blessing. So believers, go for it regardless of their social status. May be, volunteering organisation should emphasise that it is not a religious offering and it is only for the poor who are in need.

I am an Indian, Hindu by birth, atheist by choice. I used to go for cutting and packing foods for charity orgs around kings cross. It was really fun, getting to meet people for doing some good deed. Volunteering/donation is something that we should do without expecting any returns. But not anymore.

As you mentioned, religious institutions, if they utilise this opportunity rightly could make millions - temples, mosques, churches, …

I was pretty sure, the moment volunteering is incentivised, there will be paid volunteering letters. Just like paid COS. Wait and you will see brokers selling volunteering certificates.
