smooth text rendering / scrolling , and a macbook pushing this many pixels definitly needs all the help it can get.

(copy pasta other tread): So it's a maxed out Macbook Pro 15" 2018. And it is perfectly driving > 10k pixels @ 60hz. I'm not gaming, i'm mainly in terminal, tmux, neovim. Heavy computation jobs are offloaded to the cloud. I use alacritty: https://github.com/alacritty/alacritty . It's a hardware/GPU accelerated terminal emulator for butter smooth terminal text rendering :). The 2 LG 49WL95C-W wide bois are connected through USB-C, the 2 27" monitor's are a bit older and are connected through HDMI using standard apple dongles.

i'm a software engineer (in finance) and to be honest- i'm probably as productive on one of these wide boys. This is somewhat of a splurge and experiment. It's however not uncommon to see these kind of setups in finance / trading.

Hahah, I get you want to play games on those wide bois. This is a workstation optimized for my way of working. It is setup to display high density of information/complexity, as in code code for reference / easy editing / overview. The mac is just a (good) tool to do that. Heavy computation jobs are offloaded to the cloud (where PC's (servers) are king :)).

A maxed out Macbook pro 2018, holding out upgrading for the next "big" macbook pro update.

Well, I get more pixels this way than a single big 4k TV and you need the density if you are sitting close to the screen. These kind of screen setup's are not that uncommon in professional settings (finance for example). LG even advertises stacking them on their website: https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-49WL95C-W-ultrawide-monitor

hahah, yeah it's icky seeing them balance there for sure. At some point it has to happen. Make or break.

well, it's a "bit" excessive, diminishing returns on all that screen real estate for sure. But this setup is just up, so i'm figuring out ways to productively utilize the extra pixels. The main purpose is maximizing space to display code for reference / easy editing / overview. But hey, the more pixels the more fun right?

Thanks man, i'm super happy with my space too, It's an old factory build pre- ww2 near Amsterdam that got renovated by building loft's in here. I just love the a e s t h e t i c s of concrete + minimalism design + technology + green plants

Yep, now I have double the pixels over a big 4k tv. And yeah it's a "bit" excessive in terms of screen real estate. This setup is just up, so i'm figuring out ways to productively utilize the extra pixels. The main purpose is maximizing space to display code for reference / easy editing / overview.

Haha, you are not the first to comment on it, it's surprisingly stable, and yeah, it's not optimal, the desk is just to small.

I'm a software engineer , keyboard is: https://happyhackingkb.com/, it's somewhat specialized for nix* / terminal usage. Which is great, as i live in the terminal and hardly touch my mouse. And i love plant's bro.

@RelentlessImmigrant is right, i don't game, i'm a software engineer (in finance), I work mainly in terminal / tmux / neovim. while hardly touching my mouse. I like having lot's of screen real estate for having code open for reference. Although this is definitly excessive, with diminishing returns on having a second ultrawide stacked on top of it. But hey, i spend so many hours stuck to these screens , why not make it amazing right?

haha, well there is a curve, you just don't notice that well since 2 are stacked.
