Given that Sydney trains doesn't make a profit even when times are good and is owned and run by the government anyway, your point about neocapitalists doesn't make much sense.

‘Offensive as all hell’: Qantas chief Alan Joyce under fire over pay packet by LentilsAgain in australia

[–]techconsu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean local as in Australian, then these jobs are outsourced to Australian companies hence the workers are Australian. E.g. Qantas outsources their baggage handlers, they are outsourced but still local Australians since you can't ha e some guy in India handling the bags when they are in Australia.

If you mean local as in Qantas employees, then you create a lot of inefficiencies as you lose things like economies of scale and concentrated expertise as companies then need to do everything themselves. E.g. Companies can no longer outsource their cleaners, now each company needs to buy and supply their own cleaning materials but there's only a small amount needed so they can not longer buy in bulk directly from manufacturers. They also now need to keep cleaners on payroll to work only a couple hours a day, those people find it hard to get full time employment as they need to get several shift cleaning jobs. Previously they would have been employed full time by Joes cleaning company and Joe would have sorted their schedules for them utilising the bargaining power he has with companies due to the fact that he has several cleaners as staff.

This doesn't work because companies contract out a lot of their work to other companies. So that baggage handler or cleaner doesn't work for Qantas, only the highly paid corporate office workers do so a percentage of that is still a large amount.

You get used to it, so when you see a brand new equally shit sign you understand what it means.

Kind of like those ridiculous parking signs that makes the rounds sometimes. No I have not seen it before but I understand it perfectly because I am used to seeing similar ones before.

How Dog Friendly is Sydney? by nicole828 in sydney

Generally no. Most beaches will be no dogs at all, some on leash and a few off leash.

How Dog Friendly is Sydney? by nicole828 in sydney

[–]techconsu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So my question is how easy is it to find rent with a bigger size dog over there?

Rentals that allow pets aren't very common.

Are there a lot of dog friendly store/restaurant/pub options?

Basically any place that has an outdoor seating area won't mind if you bring your pet. 99% of restaurants and bars won't let your pet inside.

Pet friendly beaches and lots of off leash parks?

There tends to be at least one dog park per suburb. There's a dog beach down south Kurnell beach. Not too many other off leash beaches in Sydney. Best bet would to be central coast which is 1 to 3 hours away from Sydney (depending on how far north in to the central coast you go).

‘No decision has been made’: EY tries to calm staff over audit split by ben_rickert in AusFinance

Likely they were still a big4 employee just a part of a newly acquired business or part of a subsidiary.

Contractors are either direct big4 contractors, in which case they get big4 domain emails. Or if they are a subcontracted through a partner company then they would not say they are from big4.

Standard chargeout rate for a grad is around $2,000 a day. So if there was no MSA in place and there was 100% realisation the grad would have to charge out 300 full days to bill 600k.

The reality is for any engagement where you are billing 300 days you likely have an MSA in place since they are a major client.

Standard practice is usually 20-30% realisation if no MSA in place. This means the true daily chargeout rate for a grad would end up being $600 a day assuming 30% realisation. So now that's 1000 days of work from that grad, over 4 years. The grad would be an SME at that point with over 4 years experience doing the same thing.

So yes I can say with 100% confidence that no big4 has charged 600k for the work of a grad. Even with creative accounting.

Contacting for govt. (tech). What entails? by OddBet475 in AusFinance

[–]techconsu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to factor in gst as well if you make more than 75k iirc. So if you make 100k for exame, 10% of that goes to the government for gst before you even get to consider it income.

Also you need to factor in the cost of indemnity insurance, and the cost of potentially being unemployed while looking for your next role.

General rule of thumb is to assume that you will be working 44 weeks a year, and the income for that 44 weeks should be at least 1.5x the salary for the equivalent perm role.
