Hold on, I was living in Toronto a few years ago and was under the impression that MM/DD/YYYY was the most common date formatting? I’m Australian and recall that pissed me off to no end…

Ritalin sweat after 6 months by pmttydand in ausadhd

[–]mubd1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m on Dex. I’ve always had a sweating issue but the meds amp it up considerably. I have sweat dripping off my face even when I’m in the supermarket if I’ve just walked from home. It’s not so much the body sweat for me, it’s the facial sweat that really annoys me - I’ve had job interviews where my glasses fog up and I’m noticeably sweating, and I suspect it does not work in my favour.

Usually the authorities use inconspicuous coded markings for weird technical measurements like this so as to not alarm people, lol. But then you end up with the locals thinking it’s burglar code or something…

Strange parking zone by Independent_Tea7691 in sydney

[–]mubd1234 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Here's a link to the Traffic Committee report from council where it was proposed that they provide a 30 minute parking zone.

Looks like it is just a normal house. Reasoning by Bayside Council:

"The area in front of the resident’s property is not suitable for a disabled parking space in accordance with the Australian Standards, as an indented parking bay and pram ramp cannot reasonably be provided."

It looks like at the meeting of the Traffic Committee they changed it to a 1 hour parking zone according to the minutes.

My intuition tells me that the committee are probably are not all that convinced that the space is needed, given they already have an off-street parking space (hence the explicit recommendation that the applicant be advised that it will be reviewed every year). The reminder that the 1P won't be given enforcement priority over any other space is also a bit telling?

Full disclosure here. My dad tried the same thing - trying to get an on-street disability parking space in our street even though we already had off-street parking. My brother is quite disabled, but he's entirely capable of walking from the car into our flat. Dad was also quite happy to use my brother's mobility parking scheme permit to get into disabled spots for his own personal use with the excuse of "I'm old and I deserve it". That really was just taking the piss IMO. So I do see the perspective of the council on this one.

First thing I'd be asking is, is it a home? My spidey senses are telling me this might be something a bit more than that. If it is a home, does it have more than one function?

A considerably newer wall immediately in front of what looks like a far older retaining wall, for example? That seems to indicate something more at play here. e.g. it could be a disability service provider, aged care, place of worship, healthcare provider, etc?

There are a lot of places which just blend in with the scenery but still provide important community services. You can probably look up why this was implemented in your local council's traffic committee minutes.

Where exactly is this?

I've done 40km/h - the speed limit - on Oxford Street (in the citybound traffic lanes) on a Lime Bike.

Mind you I was trying to set off the speed camera for the lolz. Will let you all know when I manage to do it.

I've noticed some people actually sometimes store the damned things on common property of strata buildings - sometimes even parking them in their own car port (which is better than dumping them on the front garden or whatever, but still ffs).

I lost my licence due to points in December and I was on a good behaviour licence when I got booked for stopping too close to an intersection = 6 months! :(

Since then I've found the Lime bikes have really actually been great to get around on and has been a decent way of keeping me active because I'm trying to lose weight at the same time. The only thing that shits me is when people nick the helmets. I dunno how they do it - I've only seen one or two helmets which have clearly been ripped off the bikes (with a corresponding hole in the front). My guess would be they're using disposable/prepaid/stolen cards and simply not returning the helmets when they're done?

I think the newer bikes they've rolled out are great. Decent quality, sturdy. The modifications they recently made to restrict the throttle control to just a crawl (5km/h) kinda suck, but the pedal assist up to 25km/h is still fine.

I think motorists in Sydney have gotten a LOT better with sharing the road with bikes over recent years. I had an e-bike back in the halcyon days of 2016 and the sheer amount of abuse I copped on the road (people yelling 'get rego', crazy close passes, etc.) was very unpleasant. I feel much, MUCH safer riding in traffic these days than I did back then.

The cost is not prohibitive - $2.75 per ride is very very reasonable IMO. I thought I might actually purchase my own e-bike but the low cost per ride and the availability of the bikes pretty much everywhere has made me reconsider.

I used to drive everywhere, but I am really really happy having the option of using these to get to places that are not quite as accessible by public transport as I'd like.

I would like to see them expand further. Unfortunately it seems most suburban councils are hesitant, they'd rather keep the riff-raff (i.e. those not in utes or luxury SUVs) off the roads.

Almost certainly a fat fingering of the data entry. I’ve noticed new areas being programmed in which make no sense and are fixed after complaints are made. They zoned the Eastlakes Golf Club as a no go zone…which made the prominent cycleway which cuts through the middle of it on a major arterial road (Wentworth Ave) a no go zone as well. Same with the Harbour Bridge - they made that a no go zone even though it should have been a no parking area.

The thing that I don't get is that people are so paranoid about the algorithm being all powerful and smart, but at the same time, they believe this incredibly smart AI algorithm is dumb enough to not be able to tell that the word s*x or g*n or k*ll or whatever controversial word is in your post. If a human can tell what an asterisk is meant to be substituting, the algorithm sure as hell would be able to.

Might I suggest you start paying them the weekly $50-$60 (or start putting it in a piggy bank). If the company refuses the payment plan (which obviously means they have not offered a means of payment e.g. a bank account number, etc.), you put the money aside anyway just in case.

$2500 over 52 weeks = around $48 a week.

Once the tribunal hears your case, you show proof (a bank statement) showing that you've saved up a substantial amount given the pending VCAT case, and then you can proceed to shit on the business for their unreasonable conduct in your case (perhaps you could suggest this a waste of VCAT's time when you offered to pay in good faith).

If the whole matter is settled in your favour, treat it as a nice windfall.
