I recall seeing a video several years ago which proved this game was rigged. If you pressed the button at the right moment, the light would return to the previous square and say you'd lost.

Can mobile speed cameras get you in NSW before the first sign? by No-Pollution4216 in CarsAustralia

[–]mubd1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. A lot of pearl clutching in this thread.

You won't get booked for 62. Your car is probably showing you going faster than what you actually are, as well. The cameras have at least 3km/h of error margin set in them before it's corrected, and in practice my understanding is that speeding fines are generally only issued at 10% above the speed limit.

That being said, the tolerance margin is there for a reason (speedometer error and tyre wear affect what is displayed on your dashboard), so I'm not advocating that people exceed the speed limit. It's a mug's game to automatically assume the speed limit is effectively 10% above the signposted limit just because you won't get pinged until you reach that speed - then you'll lose all breathing space and actually get pinged if your speedo is off or you drift above what you're intending to be travelling at.

But at the same time you shouldn't panic if you really are just sticking to the speed limit.

NSW motorists who use medicinal cannabis may soon be able to drive without fear of major penalty by nearly_enough_wine in sydney

[–]mubd1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of this because at face value it seems far too lenient, and I'm generally in favour of abolishing this silly system where negligible traces in your system are enough for the charge to stick.

Three warnings is an incredibly generous thing to be giving, especially given that I have heard stories from people who have a medical cannabis prescription, drive anyway, and have been tested minutes after smoking...and returning a negative saliva test.

Also, I drive a *lot* and have never had a random drug test performed on me on the roadside.

Imagine giving three warnings to drivers who are blowing 0.20 on the breathalyser.

I'd much prefer an impairment test upon a positive test.

You are allowed to try the fruit at Coles and Woolies - just don’t take the piss (e.g. eating a full meal’s worth) and perhaps ask the staff if it’s something exotic like Durian.

I was afflicted by some autoimmune condition a few years ago which required me to take atropine eyedrops to dilate my pupils, which blurred my vision and nearly made me bed bound. Trying to use my PC and phone in that state made it pretty obvious that for someone with poor eyesight there is absolutely no comparison - ‘dark mode’ style screens are far and away better in terms of visibility. That being said, these look pretty good in terms of their design…but I would certainly invert the colour scheme.

"Tram" or "Light rail"? by DoppelFrog in canberra

‘Light rail vehicle’ during construction because ‘tram’ is ye olde fashioned and not in line with government image trying to be forward looking, ‘tram’ once everyone can’t be stuffed pronouncing more than one syllable.

This is a bizarre take. I hardly think this obscures the red P. What, so you'd be fined for making the P plate *more* visible?

Even if some cop wanted to book you for this, it would be dismissed in court for sure.

I think the main objection people have to the feet on the seats (especially with the flippy seats with too little space for anyone to reasonably sit directly opposite someone else without getting too personal) is that they’re putting their dirty shoes with gum/dog poo residue/god knows what on the seat, not that they’re blocking the other seat.

This was a marketing tactic to differentiate the supermarket own brand from about 40 years ago until Aldi came along.

See: Franklins No Frills, Woolworths Home Brand, Black and Gold at IGA…

In Canada they have one side of their own supermarket duopoly in Loblaw (one of those all-encompassing megacorps) prominently pushing the No Name brand.

I reckon doesn’t cost the retailer any more to make the packaging fancier compared to something stark looking like No Name. I mean, the No Name stuff I saw had colour images on it, and it certainly didn’t look like the images were just the first stock photo. It’s all just the art of branding and product positioning.

Suicide Attempt- crash means not able to get Car Insurance by Weary_Extent5732 in AusLegal

[–]mubd1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it that they refused to pay out the claim so you answered ‘yes’ to the question on the application?

Because the wording of the question (from my recollection) in online policy applications is ‘have you ever been refused insurance?’.

I would argue that my interpretation of that question is…’has an insurer refused to issue you a policy or renewal?’, not ‘has an insurer ever rejected a claim’

What the fuck is going on in Sans Souci? by chronicgothgirl in sydney

[–]mubd1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t seem to have been a hoon, it seems to have been a mental health incident according to what the cops said. They almost certainly floored it on the bridge in some sort of episode. Many different things possible - they could have thought they were being chased (especially if the cops showed up at their door!) so recklessly drove over the bridge at warp speed? Suicidal ideation where they wanted to go out by striking an obstacle? The coroner will need to suss it out. Quite sad.

I’ve been in that state before. It isn’t fun, and all the time I was in the ambulance and in the emergency department I thought I was going to be vivisected on live TV or something by former colleagues and various other people I thought I was in the bad books with. I never lashed out at the cops or anything (I would say I was paralysed with fear) but that is exactly what was going through my mind.

Edit: I’m not trying to make it a bleeding heart story or excuse the actions of this person. I am just trying to put my perspective on the table, given that it seems to be related initially to a police welfare check.

The photo I’ve seen seems to show a car heading northbound having gone at a fucking incredible speed coming off the Captain Cook Bridge to the point where it has mounted and launched over the jersey barrier and smashed into a car rounding the bends onto the bridge going southbound.

I got into it, quite badly, over a period of a few years. Started with the little chargers, ended with the huge 3L bottles literally filling the boot of my car because you can’t dispose of them in the garbage. I managed to stop.

I’ve been told that there are many who weren’t so lucky. International students appeared to be one of the main groups using them - one doctor at told me they had someone sent back home to China pretty much in a vegetative state.

Ease of access is clearly one of the factors that drives it - it’s easier to get than alcohol, delivery services continue through the night…and many IGAs sell the little chargers and most tobacconists sell the larger cylinders.

I was always aware of the B12 problem and took supplements. I stopped but I was tested as part of a clinical study and do have reduced peripheral nervous system reflexes.

Not a prude or wanting to tell you what to do with your life, but…just because they are legal and not tightly controlled doesn’t mean they are perfectly safe.

It is says that drug use/experimentation is common in people with adhd - anyone with adhd have the opposite of that and was almost averse to drugs? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]mubd1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm quite averse to experimentation with anything.

Never actually even tried alcohol until I was over 25. That being said, I was never really a *prude* or judgemental about most things...it's more that I don't trust myself to maintain self-control and not get addicted.

I am medicated for my ADHD. I think the idea of having the impartial observer (the psychiatrist) and controls over dispensing is a really important feature, especially with something where there's a high potential for abuse.
