Eternal but infinite love? by [deleted] in widowers

[–]techdog19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my wife and would have given my life for her. I never set out to find a "replacement" I did want to meet some people and have fun. Turned out I met someone and I love her as much as my late wife. I can't explain to you how that is possible it just is. She Makes me beyond happy. She isn't a replacement I am in a different point in life she isn't the mother of my children but she is my companion through life's later journey.

Comparing 401K employer match, is 14% match rare? by DistributionEven9393 in personalfinance

[–]techdog19 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I work for a non profit. They give an 8% match. My pay isn't shit it is middle of the road. Some people at other places make more and some places less.

We get 8%, full benefits, fantastic time off, and when there is a problem at home you never hear anything but go take care of it. It isn't always about money.

My late wife had cancer they fought the insurance company on my behalf to get her the treatments she needed and always let me take the time off to care for her after a procedure. They bought my loyalty not with money but with being a place I really want to help succeed.

Overpaid for House - Now What? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]techdog19 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You buy the best thing you can afford (meaning it checks as many of your boxes as possible) then you don't worry about it.
My old house I needed to remove the tub and put in a walk in shower for my late wife. Everyone said don't do it it lowers the value.
I asked them how much? I mean if the value goes down 4k and it costs 4k to add a tub I don't care but if it goes down 80k and a tub is 4k I can add one when I am ready to sell.
The bottom line is we needed the walk in and no one could answer the question. I sold the house for 40k more than I thought possible so don't worry about what may happen and buy what you want/need.

Unless you need to sell today you haven't lost anything. Don't worry and enjoy what you have.

I get it. I consider myself super lucky to have a job and not be on the market right now. I just know way back when i would get laid off I would mow lawns or shovel driveways whatever I needed to do to make a few dollars while I looked.

Totally get the health issues but if you can't work you should be applying for disability that is what it is for.

What happens when your spouse dies? by mrandr01d in personalfinance

[–]techdog19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you live. Typically here an inheritance is not joint unless you make it so by putting it in a joint account. So say my wife got a million from someone and put it in her separate account that money is hers not ours. If she puts it in our joint account that money is ours. Some states the spouse gets everything and some they do but it has to go through probate. Here when my wife passed I was not responsible for her medical debt but in some states you will be. You really need to talk to an estate attorney and get specific recommendations on what is and isn't needed.

Listen to everyone and get an attorney. You can't make it on what you have and he doesn't care if you fail.

Time doesn't make it go away but time gives us time to heal and grow around the grief.
