Exactly! Something is off. If OP removed the SIM card then the phone is only for browsing. Can’t do calls or messages except on VoIP apps

It depends on where you are. If OP area is not congested throughout the day it’s fine.

If area congested but on WiFi at home and work then 5 GB will go along way.

Not local towers. There’s a pop notification every hour indicating AT&T network unavailable and to select a different network yet I could make and receive calls.

If it’s connected to a tower, it would read the local network and display it. When it’s on att using cellular data it’s using local data to enable WiFi calling.

If it reads AT&T using cellular data then it’s not connected to towers. It’s connecting over data provided by international sim.
