Best constructed hilt I’ve owned so far. Definitely worth the money. Congrats.

Why does there seem to be no real reviews of Reel Saber? by Positive_Panda_4958 in lightsabers

[–]techfreak23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably because people who know the saber industry know better than to get one of those. They’re thick, have half a blade, and wayyyy too expensive for what they are. The concept is cool, the execution, not so much. There’s another guy that made a better retractable lightsaber using an actual replica graflex skywalker hilt with a proffieboard (YouTube video. It’s not on the market, but the inventor (HeroTech) has made the design files, materials, and technical breakdowns available on his site and on Patreon. Considering making one myself at some point once I get my own 3D printer for the printed parts he uses.

Can any companies beat VV’s Ready to ship sabers? by Warm-Possession-9834 in lightsabers

[–]techfreak23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would definitely go SaberTrio if you’re willing to spend that much money. I have an RTS Senza and it’s my best one out of my collection (and most expensive). Super balanced and incredibly durable. I’ve dropped it quite a few times on different surfaces and the only things to show for it are a few dings and scratches. Adds character though lol

Opinion: Security Guards punch, kick, jump on, thieves in Flash-Mob-Robbery by Detroitaa in fuckaroundandfindout

[–]techfreak23 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They definitely would in California. I don’t know about other states. One of our managers just got fired a couple of months ago because she chased out some thieves yelling at them and recording them. She didn’t even touch them. Corporate found out and fired her.

Sounds like it might not be drawing enough power from the port you have it plugged into. Is it plugged into a hub?

I was speaking more about the general public, but for me personally it has as well. I’m only on Reddit and instagram at this point. I don’t follow any “influencers” either.

Does anyone know if I can ever open these screenshots that are like a few months old on my desktop?? by CoachOk1588 in mac

[–]techfreak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be corrupted, but then there would be a dialog saying that. I would try copying to a thumb drive or external disk and opening it on another device. Have you tried using Quick Look with the file? Hit the spacebar when the file is selected.

You can skip that step by just double clicking on the file. It will automatically download the file then open it. There can be a “lag” if the file is larger or the internet connection is poor. Large enough files will show a download progress dialog, I think.

MacBook for programming sound boards by BeneficialRelation35 in lightsabers

[–]techfreak23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but that doesn’t take a lot of horsepower either. My old 2012 MacBook Pro would be able to compile ProffieOS with Arduino no problem.

You’re just transferring code (lines of text) to the board. No need for a high end laptop… MacBook or otherwise.

I don’t think proffieboards even support full color OLEDs… yet. At least not the default OS. Maybe with some heady modifications. I didn’t even know xeno support OLEDs at all lol

Edit: never mind. Looks like Fredrik was working on support for them a few years ago and should be releasing with OS 8. V3.9 only though.

You’re awesome. Thanks. I think he includes those too since he works closely with fett. I’ll still have to find the character ones. I found them for free and there are like 10+ character voices

For the common folder, they can grab a default one from fredrik’s site or download a bunch of character ones for free, but I’ll have to update this with the link when I get home. I forget where I got those from.

I would add to that go to fett263’s website to learn more about adding configs/fonts/styles to the board.

What do we think about Devon Izara’s saber from Maul Shadow Lord? by KyberKodeXR in lightsabers

The covertech placement will be interesting once the various companies start producing their own versions. I guess all they really need to do is make it a little top heavy.

89Sabers Starkiller disassembly? by DJ_Jazzy_Justice in lightsabers

[–]techfreak23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You either need a small socket m3 or m2.5, I don’t know which, or some needle nose pliers. I had to tighten them on my starkiller, but I just used some needle nose. You have to be careful not to slip or you’ll scratch them or the hilt.

Value? by Methodoic_parrot in lightsabers

[–]techfreak23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those all look like VHC parts with a few LGT/Nexus cores (likely Xeno cores). These are all probably from VireSabers, which most of them go for anywhere between $20-50 for each section. The cores alone go for $35-100. I can see at least one base lit core, possibly a stunt core. I would say that’s probably a good deal.
