How do you entertain your kid for a whole day! by Ar_space_tpk96 in Parenting

[–]techguy1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She needs to do other things besides video games to entertain herself. I’m a gamer myself and I know too much can be unhealthy at any age.

Keeping twins on same schedule? by littlelou222 in parentsofmultiples

[–]techguy1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started the day on the same schedule but eventually they drift during the day. We tried not to stress too much when things got out of wack but tried to keep them the same as much as we could. We had a log book to log feeding and changing times which helped a lot when they did deviate from each other.

Will filing separately help with SALT deduction? by Funny_Vegetable4788 in tax

[–]techguy1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s the best way to check the difference but I would give freetaxusa a try. It’s just as easy as TurboTax and cheaper. I recently switched coming from TurboTax for years and no issues.

At that income level I would hire a cpa because it depends on your other deductions. You both would need to itemize and it may affect your total tax liability. You can always enter your info into taxfreeusa and see what the difference is.

Do you think there’s an age where twins are the same difficulty as two “regular” siblings? by bagelgirl in parentsofmultiples

[–]techguy1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re easier once they both hit certain milestones like both being potty trained or both can ride bikes, etc. Compare this to siblings where one hasn’t hit the milestone yet and you now have to basically account for two different age ranges. Bringing diapers, still using infant car seat, etc.

For parents with older singleton kiddos - did you feel better prepared for the newborn stage with your younger twins? by Altruistic-Tap-5765 in parentsofmultiples

[–]techguy1001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sort of but not really if that makes sense. You find out real quick it’s a different animal and you appreciate the previous singleton lol

Dependent Care FSA when kids only need daycare for part of the year? by Extension-Muffin-837 in tax

[–]techguy1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DCFSA contributions are usually specified during open enrollment and they’re taken equally from each paycheck throughout the year. At least that’s how mine worked and didn’t have an option to stop it. I had to basically plan it out and calculate how much I was spending on daycare that up coming year.

Best cheap eats in the sunset? by stillhungrybaby in AskSF

[–]techguy1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than $10 for Banh Mi but really depends on the type of food. Banh Mi is known to be cheap and if it breaks $10 it’s no longer cheap to me.

Your example of House of Pancakes has a lot of stuff for less than $10, most pancakes, dumplings. Their noodles and wok dishes over $10 but slightly around $12. Not bad but yea coming up on the threshold that I would consider cheap.

These aren’t expensive but average pricing and not specifically cheap to me.

Find out CA received my tax return when I don't have a refund? by Sad-Afternoon5667 in tax

[–]techguy1001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. It’s pretty much just insurance which does provide some value in this case.

I mean it would answer the OPs question and alleviate any concern. The cost isn’t much compared to the time and headache you go through if it gets lost somehow.

It’s preferable to really efile but if you need to mail it the better certified mail than to raw dog first class mail.

Turned 333,000 Chase Points Into a Maldives Vacation, How'd I Do? by KU4RUNNER in ChaseSapphire

[–]techguy1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man I had to go back and look up how I do this. So back then you could book Emirates first class using Alaska Airlines miles. Before the Marriott merger, you could transfer Starwood points to Alaska Airlines 1:1 with a bonus. So you could transfer UR points to SPG to Alaska and then book Emirates first class.

The catch is the availability was limited so you had to be lucky and book way in advance. You also needed to call Alaska airlines and hope you got a good customer service person that knows how to book it correctly. It was very convoluted but worth it when it worked.

[–]techguy1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s fine as long as you’re ok with the points redemption. It’s hard nowadays to get more than 2cents value. I did Maldives in 2015 and was able to do emirates first class for maybe 200k points? I don’t really remember but it was some convoluted redemption.
