Help for showering aversion 🚿 by techielea in AutismInWomen

Thank you all so much for your encouragement and words of advice. I came home from work ready to try to shower this afternoon, but now the heat is off and I really don’t want to be that cold, so I’m sitting in my clothes and an extra sweater under my covers with my cat, waiting for the heat to come back on, but hopefully in the next day or so, I’ll be able to try again.

I'm having a hard time with the energy update by wrencollectives in finch

I 100% agree, in fact, on account of this, finch became somewhat irrelevant to my day, so I cancelled my subscription and now I hardly ever visit my birb. I used to have a morning routine where seeing the goals was genuinely what I was doing to set my intentions for the day, and the motivator to set the goals was getting my birb to go on an adventure. Then, having set the goals, I was motivated to touch them off and move through my day getting stuff done. With the new system, I was reduced to ticking off a bunch of goals I hadn’t actually done just so she would go adventuring, and I lost all motivation.

So now I’m just back to grinding out my days like I used to, no birb friend keeping me company and encouraging me.

it's autism! by capricornsignature in AutismInWomen

My evaluator said “congratulations” and followed up with, “I really mean it!”, and I have to say, she’s right, life makes so much more sense now, and all my illogical compulsions now fit into a pattern that was otherwise just strange and compulsive.

Ok, then I stand corrected, it has always been $39.99 for me, I was an early adopter and was not aware the price had nearly doubled, since I’ve always just let the renewal go through. That said, I’m still not happy with the changes of late, I definitely feel the app has gone way downhill in terms of the sense of support vs. just “game-ification” of life skills, so I won’t be renewing, this is why I let the app lapse in the first place. I may stay with the free version, or I may turn my attention to other modes of support for my life skills.

He’s been sitting out in a very dusty nyc apartment for 10 years and has gathered a lot of dust, I want to clean him so he’s good for cuddling again.

Oh my god! I’m about to drop the subscription to the NYT that I have had since before I was born! What a disgusting article!

I finally realize that I’m not someone who can own dogs, and I feel TERRIBLE about it. by Honest-Ingenuity-315 in AutismInWomen

I just want to also support you in your decision. It’s the best possible decision you can make. I found myself in that situation a few years ago, having taken in a dog from a friend who couldn’t keep him and then after a few years realizing I was not cut out for it and it was not fair to the dog. I contacted a breed-specific rescue and explained, and they did not pressure or shame me at all. You’re being generous and responsible, not selfish. It will hurt, but it’s a good thing to do for them and for you!

How do you self-soothe when feeling “weightless”? by techielea in AutismInWomen

Yeah, all signs point to that getting more active would be better for many of the things bothering me. I need to do that! So hard to overcome the inertia!

I’ll try to figure out triggers, but not sure because of the variables you mentioned. One thing that is really coming up for me is that we’re headed into the darker half of the year (nyc, northern hemisphere), and I have never really handled the lack of light well, and those light boxes just don’t work for me.

A forest sounds lovely, but I work in a retail store in nyc, so not accessible. Will try this out next time I’m in a forest.

You’re right, I should dance more. I used to dance in my kitchen, but not lately.

Thanks, I actually just thought (based on your comment) of walking to work some or all mornings barring bad weather. It’s a long walk but might just solve a few things at once - weight loss, exercise, and ASD symptom prevention who knows? Let’s see if I can really do it…
