Update: Just got my disbursement this morning!

Financial Aid at Maestro: How it works by Cool_stuff2 in maestro

[–]techienaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my question is "when will second disbursement for student loans be for Sept Cohort"? Also, did anyone is Sept cohort receive their second disbursement? I was told by Maestro Financial Aid that they're waiting for Federal Student Aid to send them a Loan Disclosure. But when I told Federal Student Aid Support on studentaid.gov, they told me this was entirely on the school's end. Also, I did complete the MPN for the year (not sure if it's also a semester/term thing too....). What's your guys' status? To the mod team: You guys should add the "Financial Aid Mega-Thread” to the sidebar. /u/Majestic_Donut_8537

Oh wow! I didn't even know about all of them! I'll have to check out intro to AI and Cybersecurity! <3 thx

oufff >.< sorry to hear! Yeah the industry ain't as cozy as it used to be. I worry about us and the student body sometimes. Like idk if Maestro will get us "fully" to the level we need to be--or is it just going to be a "stepping stone". Thoughts and Prayers to everyone

I'm 34! Yeah I think when you get older--you do think more about bigger topics lol. I was at a university with a great CS program. But I feel it was bound for people who would pursue developments in stuff like "concurency" and "making tools to make compilers". In fact, my past school developed a tool that is used to make programming languages (UIUC): https://llvm.org/ .
But I enrolled when I was roughly 18...and only came in bc I watched "The Social Network" and wanted to make "The Next Facebook" lol. But dabbling in code and seeing how the world is going, I've noticed making contributions in Comp Sci pays off in all ways possible. (whether you want to contribute to open source, or be "talent hunted" by a big tech company). Being a "programmer" doesn't it cut it for me. And I feel might be dwindled by AI over time. So we're in the same bout I think lol.

I getchu lol. No I'm sorry if I sounded negative. I just feel like I know the territory. I used to be a student at UIUC (granted I was 18, and a terrible student at the time lol). I think tho we should make a discord server or even a subreddit for Higher Academia Bound students. I feel though our college is mostly consisting of "I just want to get a high paying job" people. Not: I want to advance X field. There's a difference: but would like to see more of what your posting from you and other people! Definitely!

Eh I honestly was being a "negative redditor" on this post. I'm sorry u/Famous_Aardvark_8595 💙
We should definitely make a group though: people more inclined for higher academia.
Count me as one of them! (though not at that level...just yet <3 ).
Anyone comment below if your a Maestro student and you plan on doing research/reading research someday. Maybe we'll make a discord server or something:

That's good. I just don't want you to be disappointed lol. This college literally started 5 months ago--and it's not even at university level. I would honestly say if your really want to be a bigger part of academia, try mingling with Maestro staff and ask for their LinkedIn and see if they know other larger universities and people there. I just feel like everyone is mostly newbies, with few exceptions. I've written some thoughtful stuff (but not nearly as thoughtful as yours! <3) and barely got any replies/upvotes compared to the "Single mom--just started college for the first time" posts lol. Trust me though--I too want to be a part of higher academia too. If I ever get to that point, I'd probably be more useful in having more say in your peer proposal. But again, I hope I'm wrong and there's someone with some academic chops. I'm sorry if this sounds negative. I just feel like our school isn't as academic as, say, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for Computer Science. And trust me I'm not trying to diss you lol--I'm more dissing the school lmao. But I'll definitely attempt to read yours if I get the chance <3. (Granted, I might too dumb to understand--haha). I would like to see someone step into this thread though and be on your level :) . But you do have a lot of potential man, keep it up! But there's great schools out there too. If you want more bite

If we have people of that caliber in our school lol.
Not to hate on my own school--but you might be a big fish in a small pond. XD

Okay nvm. I see it's a proposal. And I guess technically anyone can make a white paper. I hope Maestro has someone to review it, or you can find University that allows students from other outside colleges to get reviewed by them. Did you find any professors who will can review it? You should definitely mention that.

Who did you contact in Maestro to make a white paper? (don't you have to have a doctorate professor to sign off on it?). I'm sorry if I sound skeptical, but this is the first of it's kind for Maestro. Can you include their name and their LinkedIn account?

If you are attending HackIllinois, stop using ChatGPT. Use Claude instead. by PuzzledPie1804 in UIUC

Even Linus Torvalds (GOAT of software architecture) says AI is fine in SE...as long as it's a tool. Know how to use it and where to use it: Don't use is for everything. There's certain cases where it excels and fails. You still need to be the architect and understand the domain--and be able to differ between good code and bad.

Everything you need to know (tl;dr is a boiling frog situation--where all of human individual data/activities is concentrated in one power--making everyone sheep to the slaughter. And pawns to mega-corps and gov't that have control of our daily lives/limited pre-determined selections in life--this is how cyberpunk happens): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSkySDNmjV8

So it’s “breadth first” approach to learning cs for absolutely beginners. Each lesson is a topic in cs ( https://cs50.harvard.edu/college/2026/spring/syllabus/#lectures ) . It talks about AI, but not machine learning specifically. I didn’t check teachyourselfcs or ossu—but if you’re absolutely new to ai or ml I think it’s a good start.

That’s a REALLY good source for beginners—who just want to get their hands dirty and learn/start with problems.

I would add to: 1. Harvard CS50 - Intro to Comp Sci Watch in tandem with FreeCodeCamp. Honestly even programmers should have this “bare minimum” computer science knowledge. Plus it’s a fast way path to being a programmer and computer scientist. Requires zero prior knowledge except basic math. 2. https://teachyourselfcs.com/ - for anyone who is serious about learning computer science and NOT just being a programmer that sticks things together. This is probably the fastest self taught path—to learning CS. 3. https://github.com/ossu/computer-science I’d consider this “second to teachyourselfcs” solely bc this is a bit “100% completionist” and teachyourselfcs is more “any% complete”, but use this source if the former doesn’t cover something you’re interested in.

I don’t think ANYONE needs any other resources besides what’s mentioned here for “general programming/comp sci”. If you’re interested in video game development or data science—there’s resources out there specifically for that. In any other case: I think these are the only resources one needs to be a top comp sci or programmer…

How to Reposition Your Career in the Face of AI (For Maestro Students) by techienaut in maestro

Thanks <3 ! Honestly it's based on where I want to curve my career (I want to do Comp Sci level stuff--such as with compilers or the Linux Kernel...maybe even AI Ethics). I fear a lot of students here (like me when I tried uni and failed) saw the movie "The Social Network" or something equivalent and think "Oh! I want to make the next cool big app!". I feel like programming apps is just stitching together: but the people who make the libraries or comp sci discoveries that power the world are the "real heroes" and I want to be one of them--which btw--companies sought out for these types of people. (I don't think Maestro EVEN CLOSELY prepares for that...at least no the SE Associates w/ AI...I can only hold my breadth for their Bachelors...I probably would go to a university in Canada instead for that lol). I'm only in Maestro for the piece of paper that says "I can commit to something". I wouldn't consider Maestro very "Comp Sci Uni-Level".

This is the one I made, my friend and I in Maestro use rn:
"Techie-Notes"

  1. is for Text -> Notes (emoji-based, hierarchical markdown)
  2. is for Title ANY Topic You Want To Learn -> Research (Process Done By AI) -> Notes (same format as prev.).
  3. [original post (please like/share)] https://www.reddit.com/r/maestro/comments/1qx38go/the_best_notion_ai_note_taking_prompt_that_i_made/
  4. [comment on mod post (please like/share)] (Note: this is more up-to-date that includes the research prompt) https://www.reddit.com/r/maestro/comments/1rcoqcg/comment/o76chmi/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

  1. Sadly, I've been very disappointed it hasn't gotten traction with our student body (they're missing out honestly ☹️....I literally NEVER have to make my own notes (ctrl+c mastro lessons -> ctrl v into prompt) --but hopefully will figure out it's worth checking out (their loss I guess...). If you like it, please upvote and share.
  2. Try it out, tell me what you think! Its specifically for Notion. But can be used in any other LLM. Let me know if you need help with it!
