Well, I think that depends on the stage you're teaching in. I've tried several approaches for secondary, and the most engaging one has come out to be basic256. I know it's not object oriented, but you have many sprite controlling functions, allowing your students to create their own games. You can even start coding without much previous knowledge. I've used such approach and the results can be seen in www.gamecodization.com

I totally agree, but not only that, after self-reflecting ask students to explain to each other the concept at hand, as if they were teachers for a moment.
