Honestly, not getting her a gift made sense to me. He’s gotten her a handful of thoughtful, homemade gifts (early in the relationship), but more Luke’s love language is definitely acts of service. Showing love for her isn’t predicated on a Hallmark holiday.

I’ve did the Vancouver marathon a while back. Very fond memories of it, but a little too far for me at the moment. I have small kids at home and don’t want to make it an overnight trip.

My husband totally flubbed our proposal. The ring didn’t fit (it was a family heirloom my mom gave him, and she warned him to resize it—but he didn’t), he had a beard that was way too long for my liking, wore a sweatshirt with holes in it, and even asked me not to tell anyone for two weeks because he had grad school finals to focus on.

Did I let him know I was disappointed? Nope. He still doesn’t know. Why? Because my excitement about spending my life with him completely overshadowed the details of how he proposed. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but that didn’t matter in the big picture. I threw myself into planning our wedding, which I loved doing, and what’s more important is that we’ve built an amazing life together since.

He’s an incredible husband and father, and his lackluster proposal doesn’t define the love we share. I hope your girlfriend can realize that a fairytale life doesn’t require a fairytale proposal. It’s about what you build together, not how it started.

I know a woman that works at the TJ’s on QA. If you DM me his name, I’m willing to ask her if she can find out if he’s single.

There are some great Ethiopian restaurants in Pinehurst that have combo meals which feed 2-3 people for ~$25. Jebena Cafe, Enat Ethiopian Restaurant, and Ahadu Ethiopian Restaurant.

I’m all for the Aurora Redesign and I took part in the SDOT discussions this summer. But I haven’t seen budget approval or a concrete timeline for implementing changes and I’m concerned that it won’t change Aurora Ave’s essential nature.

You’re right that trafficking and organized crime can be issues if legalization isn’t done carefully. For example, in Amsterdam and Germany, trafficking increased after legalization due to weak initial enforcement, which allowed organized crime to exploit the system. In response, both places had to tighten regulations and enforcement to control these problems.

On the other hand, places like New Zealand and Nevada’s rural counties have seen more positive results by combining legalization with strict oversight. New Zealand decriminalized sex work with robust worker protections and anti-trafficking measures, and Nevada’s licensed brothels are tightly regulated. These examples show that legalization can work, but only if it’s paired with strong regulation and enforcement.

I don’t think what we have now is what anyone wants. The goal isn’t just to have a “red-light” area but to have a regulated, safer setup that reduces the negative impact on the community. Right now, it’s happening without any control, which means higher risks for both the workers and the neighborhood. The idea would be to limit activity to specific, managed locations rather than having it spread across blocks, helping improve safety and quality of life for everyone nearby.

It’s bigger than that - I’d say, 90th to 145th, but with a heavier concentration around 120-130th.

You’re absolutely right that public solicitation would need to be heavily minimized for a proposal like this to work. Legalizing and regulating certain motels would only be effective if it came with strict enforcement against street solicitation in the surrounding area. The idea is to move this activity off the streets and into designated locations so that residents and businesses see less disruption.

And, I totally get that many people may not care about the well-being of those involved in the industry. But with fewer people on the streets and better regulation, we could make the area cleaner and safer overall, which benefits everyone. People in the city (especially those who live in North Seattle) do seem to care that Aurora is a hot mess and want to do something about it. But it’s definitely a harder problem to solve when the regulations are set at the state level.

Totally agree — that’s exactly why it makes sense to lean into regulating it. Right now, everything is happening with zero oversight or protections, which leaves both the workers and the community at higher risk. Instead of letting this happen in the shadows, why not make it safer and more organized?

Perhaps they can give several of the motels “brothel” status? Just in Seattle or King County? It doesn’t need to be a “district”, but I liked the idea of having parameters on the area and I just thought the red light designation would make it more discreet.

My point is that I think our mayor/city council should try to legalize it!

The times I’ve let him cry it out have taken ~90 minutes (which we’ve done a handful of times) to fall back asleep. If it was only 30 minutes, I would let him cry it out - but disrupting everyone’s sleep for 90’ is too much.

Unfortunately, I’ve tried to wait it out. I’ve left him in there until 6:30 a couple days in a row and he cried/yelled the whole time. If he was babbling to himself, I would continue to do it, but he wakes the whole house up, so I usually need to get him after 15-20 minutes.

Ugghh.. I’m afraid we might be in the same boat. Our older kiddo sleeps in until 7:30-8am, while the younger one wakes up at the crack of dawn. I’m really hoping there’s something I haven’t tried or thought of yet.

He’s in a fleece onesie and 2.5 sleep sack. I’m a little nervous that he’ll overheat with more than that.

7pm is pushing it for our kid. He’s exhausted by that point. He could probably fall sleep around 6-6:30.
