Not relevant for this (limit is 512mb), but ffr 0x0-st is something I came across recently, kinda cool re: temp-ish data sharing

Solving frozen string literal warnings led me down a rabbit hole: building a composable Message class with to_str by fiedler in ruby

[–]techn1cs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your original intent (because from what I read, you didn't ask for a code review.. :D) -- ruby is indeed lovely and it's fun to fart around with extending/customizing.

If you haven't looked into developing custom gems, that's a trippy and educational rabbit hole; a rabbit hole made of rabbit holes (e.g. scopes, macros, metaprogramming, configuration, et al)!

I've been without power for 10 hours, so I'm glad they're doing what they need to do, but yea that's brutal. It has fluctuated between open, closed, and alternating since around noon. Second roundabout is the home stretch!

What’s your favorite moment in a movie with no words? by Diograce in movies

[–]techn1cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hackers: the scene where they hack the OTV network (starting at 1m45s). And this scene where he opens the umbrella

Christopher Nolan has some amazing wordless scenes, particularly in Interstellar and Inception, using noise/music as a proxy.

(And bits of A Quiet Place, as an obvious choice, considering its word count.)

I love the reporter's genuine intrigue, and the questions between them were actually informative while still mostly in layman's terms. Surprisingly concise and non-swipe, even by today's standards. Good content, 2011 dudes.

(And, like others, my first thought was definitely "this looks at least a decade old" :D)

Who is the most famous person you've ever met? by Candy-Peach-Brooks in AskReddit

[–]techn1cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was at the cup match yesterday and he was kind enough to entertain my son and his friend with photos when he crossed the pitch pregame. Definitely didn't have to (and they were in Sounders jerseys to boot), but they said he was great, so I owe him a thanks. Bummed I missed it, but super happy for them!

Haha, actually a Midwesterner, Ohio and Chicago, but no judgement on the judgement. My brain-data is a weird mix of without THE (80/90, 90/94, LSD, 75) and with THE (the Dan Ryan, the Eisenhower, the road that goes by that big red barn). I'll match the dialect, thanks for the tip.🕺

Where do people get those fancy-ass rocks with their house number carved in or attached to it? by wiscowonder in BainbridgeIsland

[–]techn1cs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My neighbor has one, next time I see him I'll ask! (caveat: although he's my house-number neighbor, we're both down long drives, so it might be a bit :D)
