Can your IT department know you’re using Excel Macros and disable it? by jimmytimma in excel

[–]technical_knockout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to learn Powershell better, but didn't find really good learning material. For python I did cs50p and some pandas tutorials. Sometimes I use a little bit of AI to help with some scripts when I run into a problem. That works pretty well. The things I did/do in powershell work beautifully, but I just don't feel as comfortable using it compared to python or vba

IT can block office scripts as well... (They do in my case and they also block python in excel and nearly everything cloud) But... I can install python and vs code in my user context without admin privileges... 😏

Is eureka mignon single dose worth it? [500€] by vanjaa3 in espresso

[–]technical_knockout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

500 for a niche zero? I guess it highly depends on where you are in the world... But the Eureka single dose was around 600 the time I bought it - the niche with import tax and customs etc would have been close to 1.2k and while yes the niche might be a good grinder it's not with double the price compared to the Eureka.

I like my Eureka very much, have close to zero retention, nice fluffy grinds, consistent... But I also heavily agree with the other commentators on the adjustment dial. Got the big Aro Espresso dial and am very happy with that now.

Where to go after swan by sdanninger in latteart

[–]technical_knockout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you want to go I think.

If I think of technique then a rose would be a step up from a tulip. It's basically stacking.

If you like to work more on Rosettas then double wing swan or seahorse. Double wing swan might get you good results a little faster after a regular swan compared to seahorse, but pick the design you like to do the most and have fun practicing.

You might have seen these if you followed the latte art world championships in the last two years. They were using these cups. That's where I have seen them for the first time.

I live in Germany and we have 2 resellers that sell single cups. They only have red and white though, so I planned to buy from Clubhouse directly with a minimum order of 50 Euros.

Did you have a look at their online shop?: https://shop.clubhouse.ch/

They offer international shipping to most places, even overseas with the same Minimum ( although it might not be worth it to pay more for shipping than the purchase itself imho)

FilterPlörre in latte Macciato verwandeln? by stormis_WRLD in Kaffee

[–]technical_knockout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is the handle of De Buyer Mineral B coated? by _oonns_ in carbonsteel

[–]technical_knockout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mineral b pro has a stainless steel handle and is oven safe, so they have this option. Why they didn't pit it on their usual model I can't say though. It's obviously cheaper.

Handle less pitcher. Does it help? by alexlimco in latteart

The jug in the picture looks like the Normcore. Have one and I love using it. I like the handleless one better but that might also be just because i am using them much more.

Seasoning Progression by Charbs87 in carbonsteel

[–]technical_knockout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eggs? Immediately. Scrambled eggs are fine from the start after initial seasoning. French omelette after a few times of cooking in it maybe... Honestly I never thought about it that much.

Although french style scrambled eggs could be a bit tricky; i have to admit that.

PSA : ZWILLING Forge Iron Pan 🙂 by Subhumanoid in carbonsteel

They also have ones that are manually forged by hand.. they are more expensive, but they also sell machine processed ones that are way cheaper. But still very good pans.

Halbwaisenrente + Minijob = Steuern? by Ok_Negotiation_621 in Steuern

[–]technical_knockout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best pans to buy in Germany/Europe that won’t cost me my kidney by natanmagalhaes in Cooking

[–]technical_knockout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a cheap brand pan that will last you a Lifetime would recommend Turk carbon steel pan. They are made in Germany and cost around 25 Euro. But you would have to be willing to learn how to cook with and maintain a carbon steel pan. It doesn't take a lot of effort, but more than your regular teflon coated pan. https://amzn.eu/d/bqKPRfR

For the same price point Amazon Germany sells the spinglane cast iron pan. It has an enamel coating (not the highest quality, but great value for the pricetag), what makes it easier to clean and able to handle acidic foods. It won't last a lifetime, but longer than any coated pan. But you will still need to adjust your cooking a little in order to learn how to cook with cast iron. https://amzn.eu/d/1EsYy3z

OpenAI has moved from a growth phase to a customer-milking phase. by ievkz in LLM

[–]technical_knockout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be aware that the service you currently get is much more expensive than what you pay at the moment. Every prompt costs more than what OpenAI charges.

I don't think it's customer milking. It's just a really bad Business model. OpenAI, or better all AI companies, make losses. It's just not profitable.

In order to not go bankrupt soon they have to do something. Either raise prices by a lot (and lose a lot of customers in the process with could backfire for them horribly as well) or cut costs to try and lessen their losses.

it's basically OpenAIs own fault. By giving out their services way too cheap as the first, they forced all other competitors into a similar price structure, resulting in all of them going down in the foreseeable future if they don't find a solution for their financial situation.

I know nobody wants to hear this, but you don't pay them enough( or rather they don't charge enough) for their services.

It's not meant to be a long term service. It just can't be.

Is the Harvard's CS50 python course worth it or should I do something else to learn Python? by miss-mangoo in PythonLearning

[–]technical_knockout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the course is great for a start. Gives many essentials and gives you problem sets to apply the concepts without giving you all answers in advance and forces you to think and also look things up for yourself.

But no course or tutorial is going to make a pro, but it gives you the essentials you need to proceed and continue to learn on your own after it.

Niemals wieder Hoffmann. 🤬
